Feeling flabby and unfit.... should I start running?
Discussion
pstruck. As others have said, the key is not to over-do everything when you're still getting used to it. Start sensibly and slowly, and you'll be surprised at the difference it makes - and surprisingly quickly if you haven't done it for a while.
Your body was designed for movement and activity, so don't be afraid of it. Get some reasonable trainers, mix running and walking, and take it from there. Do not be embarrassed either; most observers seeing a flabby chap jogging think 'good for you'; many are jealous that you've got the gumption to do it.
If you start now, by March you'll be amazed at the difference.

I'm basing this purely on my general dislike for running, but I've always been concerned about being fit, but having fked knees and hips by the time you're fifty/sixty.
As someone else has suggested maybe swimming, rowing or cycling are a better bet?
For me it's weight training and improved diet.
Makes you stronger, fitter, better posture, more flexible and generally confident with yourself in a better body. Vanity, of course, play a part.

Another Couch to 5K supporter here - I did it using the podcasts last spring and it worked well for me (I'm down 2 Stone on my start weight), and I'm still managing to consistently get 2 or 3 runs a week in (and still slowly losing the pounds!).
Runkeeper has been useful for me, as you can actively track your progress and how your distance/duration/pace is improving (although remember it's not a competition and to build steadily - the improvement will come!).
I would also say to get yourself checked out for a proper pair of shoes - I didn't at first and ended up hobbling for 6 weeks with a busted knee. I then got sorted by my local running shop with some proper shoes, and have been pain-free since.
Good luck with it and keep us posted!

You can listen to them on your confuser if you don't have one of them pod things...

I only have my works BB and that's pretty much locked down to just calls and texts
So need to be able to print it off.
Oh I won't be doing it outside - that is suicidal, not least due to the heat/humidity that's about to hit Dubai..! it will be in the gym with the A/C on

Just but a cheap mp3 player. It is much easier when you are listening to your personal 'personal trainer' than otherwise. So need to be able to print it off.

Will get one eventually - have other stuff to get first.
Just need a paper copy, can't find it written anywhere on the NHS site.
