Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the pains I've been suffering recently. I am useless at describing pain so bear with me...

It tends to only happen when I'm sat down or lying down, and seems to happen more regularly when I have my legs crossed. It's a sharp pain that can occur in any part of either leg and most of the time doesn't last very long (a few seconds) although sometimes it will go on for a few minutes. I never used to get it but it's started happening more and more often and the pain is getting worse each time now.

I am assuming it's something to do with blood flow and wondered if it could be connected to the way I sit at my desk?

Any ideas?

If you're lying down i'm assuming your legs are straight at this point and you still get the pains? it doesn't sound like blood flow from that, do they really occur anywhere or focus on the joints or a particular muscle/region?

I've been observing what happens over the last coupld of days so I could be more accurate.

They don't seem to be occuring when I am lynig down, it is more when sitting. The pains happen most often in my right and left inside thighs, as well as sometimes being on my calf or around my knees (although the latter two are less common).

I don't know if it is related but I get the same sort of sharp stabbing pain on the left side of my chest, although I haven't noticed the leg and chest pains occuring at the same time.

Right now for example I have the pain in my left inside thigh as well as my left ankle. It's almost like a sharb throbbing pain that throbs once and then tails off for a second or two before returning.

I'm 21 and it differs. For example I have been sat down for an hour os so this morning and felt no pain, where as yesterday I was getting pain all day after being sat for only 5 minutes.

Now normally I'm not one for saying get to the doctor. But in this case, and seeing as no-one has bothered saying it...

Get to the doctor. smile

You may have some kind of circulatory issue, maybe a dodgy ticker that you're not even aware of. Might be worth having your GP at least give you a quick check over to at least make sure your heart is still beating.

I only say this becuase my uncle lost his leg 2 years ago becuase his doctors kept misdiagnosing the pains in his leg. His bad circulation eventually caused clots resulting in leg off.

At least go get a basic check up.

Well that's not worried me in the slightest!!

I did try to book an appointment the other day but was told I can only ring up on the day that I want the appointment and cannot book in advance. Which is a slight problem with my current living/work situation.

But I will try and book something ASAP. Cheers for the replies.

That does sound strange. It is not a consistent set of circumstances that sets it off leaving me to think it might be referred pain from elsewhere. Get to the GP.

Have you eaten something sugary shortly before feeling the pains?

Your age is an advantage in this case meaning it is probably not a circulatory issue unless you are severely overweight.

No, sometimes the pains happen before I've even had breakfast.

I'm not overweight, quite skinny in fact! I didn't seem to suffer from the pains at all yesterday so it seems very strange.

The pains seemed to stop and I thought everything was fine, but they have now returned and were worse than ever last night (although I had just played football so might be related).

Tried getting a doctors appointment but they are being as useless as ever - my local surgery is truly woeful.

The pain almost feels like it is on the bone, i.e. close to the surface and very often on my shins now. It certainly isn't muscle pain. I will update the thread if I ever manage to see my GP in case it helps anyone else who might experience the same thing.

That is absolutely shocking. I would absolutely flaming radio rental if my practise dealt with people like that. So much for the great Health service or is it a private jobby

I play 5 a side football two nights in a row which I suppose puts a fair bit of pressure through my legs, stopping, going, turning and jumping etc.

I also go downhill mountain biking once a week, although I wouldn't have thought this would have such a big effect?
