My stomachs been hurting for months now! Been to the doctors and have taken tablets for a month but they don't seem to be working but the doctors gave me another months worth to 'give them time to work'?

I've just started a new bulking diet yesterday which includes 2 shakes and I worked out I'm eating approx 3000 calories a day and my stomach seems worse than ever! Could It be that my body's simply not used to eating this many calories? I had to come home from work earlier, it got that bad!

Try stopping the shakes for a few days and see if the pain stops. I assume you have been drinking the shakes before now . It may be something in the shakes that has been making your stomach hurt. You have been drinking enough water as well?

Something in your diet is aggravating your stomach or you may have kidney stones or a stomach ulcer.

All three of those sound sh*t! Should I finish the next month of tablets to give them a chance or just go straight back to my gp? It's really starting to piss me off because I can't go out to the pub etc and enjoy myself!

Have you started eating anything new/more of around the time that you started getting the stomach pains. It could be something as simple a lactose intolerance for instance. Kidney stones or an ulcer are worst case scenarios.

Another one for this. In meantime have you tried just eating bland food (eggs, white fish, rice, chicken etc to see if reduces pain in case it's a form of IBS) either way I would not be fobbed off with give them more time, after a month you would have expected some improvement.

Felt this way for months but like I said, it's got worse since I started my new bulking diet.. I'm eating chicken, apples, flapjacks, eggs and tuna which I've neve had a problem with before so I'm thinking it could be the protein shakes?

Would seem to be a link but obviously there shouldn't be any pains at all, not without knowing why.

Is it a cramping pain or a sharp stabbing pain? Niggling pain or takes ur breath away pain?

Coming from someone with crohns its amazing how much food can change things, try low fibre as that is easier to digest and things like dairy and eggs can be funny if it is ibs. Things like chicken, fish, spuds, rice, pasta and see if it calms down.

Could be sooooo many things! Really need to get back to your doc and ask for some tests, blood tests should show any inflamation if your crp is high.

A couple of years ago I started getting unbelievably bad stomcach pains, constantly throughout the day with no apparent trigger. Eventually I was diagnosed with IBS and I am also lactose intolerant.

It is definitely worth keeping a food diary to see if there is any link, no matter how small, between what you eat and when you get the pain.

My mum had six months of stomach pains. Doctor wrongly diagnosed colitis, and gave her tablets for that condition.

She was rushed to hospital one night in agony. Two emergency ops later where she "died" twice, and they had removed her gall bladder as it was dead, along with a section of dead intestine.

This was all caused by the mis-treatment of another condition that meant she had years of sterroid-taking.

Some GPs are absolute s I'm afraid. Get a second opinion.

IBS covers a miltitude of sins TBH and each is treated differently. You really need to go back to that doctor and INSIST on further urgent investigation. He/She should have you going for a scan + blood tests, AND should check the locality of the pain, as Gall problems can 'show' with similar symptoms, as can appendicitis in some cases.

Your GP should treat this with some urgency as with a wrong diagnosis, certain conditions can lead to a critical emergency in no time at all if not treated appropriately.

If you get the fob-off with more or different pills, I would DEMAND a second opinion immediately. It's your life , not theirs they are playing with!

If you locate the surgery's website, many of them now list all the GP's and their specialities, so go look and book 'Urgently' with someone with intestinal specialisation. if you can't locate such info, then ring the surgery, or drop in, and talk to the nice receptionist (or better a nurse) and ask them who has a particular interest in tummy complaints....and lay it on THICK!

DONT LEAVE IT... GPs can be disasterously fallible - I KNOW!

Don't panic...but the above poster is right, you do need to start demanding more investigations. Preventatve measures (eg correct meds/ diet) are always going to be better than trying treat a problem that has been ignored/ missed.
