I'd recommend doing something else to compliment your "banging weights," such as a really minging circuit training session two or three times a week. A decent circuit will give you a decent run about along with a decent number of bodyweight exercises which, if you properly smash yourself, will result in you attempting to perform reps way past the point of failure.

DECENT!

I used to lift loads but I never really saw any proper strength gains (as opposed to size) until I looked in to the slightly less macho world of simple, rudimentary bodyweight exercises and combining them with cardio (ie sprints, not long, slow runs). Now I seem to be growing like a weed to the point where I want it to stop!

The bottom line though, as has already been said, is that people love to overcomplicate this stuff to the point where you actually start to think "what's the bloody point?" Just keep at it and try to mix it up as much as you can.

Dangerous just like running in Vibram Five Fingers is dangerous...? LOL!

So long as you don't use a jerking, twisting motion, any combination of handgrip isn't dangerous. I prefer to use left hand over-grasp, right hand under grasp.
"officially" the overhand/underhand with left/right hand is the preferred SEE means (Safe Eeffect Exercise) as the bar is less likely to roll out of your grip.

Depends on many factors, but mostly your Somatotype. What works for one person is not guaranteed to work on someone else. However, you sound like a classic Ectomorph, so in this case your discoveries could work for the OP as well.

I wouldn't of thought he was an ectomorph if he gains strength from calithetics and keeps getting bigger. Sounds more like a mesomorph to me. Although I can attest to the fact that I am a classic ectomorph.

Same guy, he admits his first account was deleted.

If you look at the way he posts with multiple quotes and phrases like ' myriad of assumptions ' he does not sound like a uni student who says banging instead of lifting. Definite troll and either a PH regular having fun or an ex PH'er. Harmless enough and managed to still get answers 6 pages later !

Yeah I know if you read my post you will see that I explain that my first post got deleted. Oh and what do you mean by "He doesn't sound like a Uni study"? I use correct volcabulary if that is what you are insituating. The thread title is merely satirical.

It is not just spelling and grammar but also the style in which you reply with multiple quotes and your obvious knowledge of PH and training, you also referred to ' members of old '

Nice touch throwing in two spelling mistakes in your last post smile

Ah it's not just as clear cut as mesomorph/ectomorph. There's 10's of intermediate classifications, based on more than just skeletal structure and muscle type.

Tbh i never read the whole thread. At the start of page 2 it instantly degenerated into a common ph bh-fest for not much of a tangible reason than someone having a preconceptive opinion, so i skipped to the last page. Not too sure who is who, but people need to celebrate having something to talk about.

Flame on...

If you're suggesting that doing 10-12 reps will make you strong without increasing muscle size considerably, then you're wrong. 5x5 is strength training, 10-12 reps at around 80% tends to be hypertrophy training
I'm suggesting that if the op does 5 x 5 reps all the time, he'll most likely get thick bulky muscles, not lean athletic muscles.

People say that doing low reps with high weight will help you gain strength whilst high reps with moderate weight will helop you increase muscle size therefore getting that "bulky" look. I'm not sure why you think it's the other way around, care to explain?

I'm speaking from experience of when I was strength training doing dead lifts. 5 reps for the first 4 sets or so and between 1 & 3 until I couldn't lift any more. As a result I got string quick, and as a result my back became wide and thick.

From experience, doing higher reps and low weight has shaped my muscles and made me veiny, but not made me big or strong compared to low reps and heavy weight.

Maybe it's me or maybe it because I try to control the weight and hold at the top of the lift/pull.

The op should definitely mix up both ways for a strong and athletic build. I train mainly for arm wrestling these days so I can't practice what I preach, only that like the op strength is more important than size/weight, but I'm strengthening tendons and ligaments which don't grow Luke muscles. I see what you mean though but the bigs guys don't get big just from high reps and low weights, they also do strength work and get enough protein and sleep.

Stop trolling dude.

Anyway if you are willing to listen, Didelydoo is one of the only true strength athletes on here and is exceptionally strong. I'm considerably heavier than Didely yet his strength is massively higher than mine and by most standards I'm reasonably strong.

If you want some advice he is the person to talk to and certainly not flame.

Have a look at the 'What training have you done today' thread and he has also posted a few videos in the past that show what he is capable of.

Thank you for the kind words smile The troll's got an entertaining thread though, some 'interesting' advice scattered throughout.
