Hi guys,

I recently changed jobs for one with a much shorter commute, freeing up time to get back on a fitness kick. I could stand to lose a good 20lb and strengthen up.

My only issue I bad knees, from martial arts years. Running gets them inflamed and sore, even just 2k on a rubber track.

There's a pool opening near my house this month so swimming seems obvious, but what else can. Do that is very low-impact even in warmup / cardio? Martial arts etc isn't good because I'd need to run to get cardio fitness back to do them.

clings the obvious choice - I have bad knees from hill walking / skiing, and cycling works for me

I've got crap knees from too many years of football. Rowing and cross trainers seem to do the job for me with no pain issues.

Also, you may want to try some low impact classes - I've been doing Body Pump and Spinning which work well for strength/toning and CV.

When I had knee surgery I was in the pool every night (after the dressings came off,) trying to maintain my CV fitness. I just pushed off the wall with my good leg.

Rowing might work for you, but cycling is a good thing you can do for hours, and get to see the countryside too.

Knee problems are often the result of problems somewhere else like your ITB or even lower back.

Can you see a physio and actually get your knee problem fixed? You might be able to do this.

i didnt realise this post got more answers. regarding my knee, there is a bit of cartilidge in there that apparently got loose a long time ago. It caused a problem once, but healed well enough that i didnt go for the surgery and doesnt cause any problems under everyday use.
