What actually is it and what does it do?

My girlfriend is doing a detox diet and been asked to take it once in the morning and once in the evening before bed.

I read the tub it comes in and mentions you can take before and after exercise as well.

How does it help loose weight or help after exercise?

It doesn't.

Exercise itself will strengthen bone (if it's weight bearing) and increase the fluid in joints making movement easier.

No it's a bootcamp diet detox devised by a personal trainer. He gives you a shopping list of what you can and can't eat and one of those things was Glutamine. Just wondered what it is supposed to do to help aid weight lose?

It's an amino acid, the most common one in muscle tissue, not "essential" (ie: the body makes it vs the essential aminos that the body can't make and must get from food)

Some people supplement it to increase muscle size and aid recovery from anabolic/strength workouts (body building)

Is she going for the chiselled masculine look? hehe

Personal trainers are not trained doctors or dietitions and are not qualified to devise appropriate diets!

Some PTs have studied nutrition and do know a lot about it.

Im not saying that they are all bad, but I do know there rae some dodgy PTs about

Cheers all for the responses. I haven't got the exact details of the diet but i know the PT has studied nutrition. Its not a strict diet, more a guidence on what to cut out, and what to eat more of. Plus he adds in exercises routines to follow on a daily basis.

I did speak to a guy in the local GNC store and he said it can be taken after exercise to help repair muscles and reduce stiffness and muscles being sore the next day.
