Protein/weight gain suppliments for a 13 yo?

Not sure about getting too scientific with diet such as protein supplements at 13. Just as long as he is eating a healthy and balanced diet then that should be enough. Although I did some moderate weights from 14 onwards when I was playing basketball, I didn't take any protein drinks until I was 16. At that age, I was playing sports all day everyday and could pretty much eat anything and burn it all off.
