Are the shakes fairly generic or are some better than others? I'll google bcaa.
There is loads and loads of different shakes. You just have to taylor them to your needs.

I have the isolate one with is a slower release of protein compared to just normal whey protein. Best thing to do is just look at various different sites, they will give you help on what you need for your exercises and recovery. There are also threads on here about which protein shakes are right for you, maybe have a little search for those.

Cheers. Something like this perhaps? http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/recovery_xs

I'll have a search if the infamous PH search engine decides to work again.

I imagine you'll be well past the 90 days by then.

Had to spend two days in London so missed two sessions, not ideal on my first week!

I'm looking forward to Arms and Shoulders tonight though.

Oh... and I fully tore my quads doing the first PlyoX session, I've been walking like an extra from brokeback mountain crossed with Bambi for the past two days!

Just recieved p90x in the post today. Started reading through the manuals, the nutrition guide looks pretty horrific and has got me a bit worried. Not least in the amount of stuff I'm going to get in but also in the use of their shakes and protein bars, supplements etc. Ideally I'd like to avoid buying from Beachbody as the prices seem very high. What's everyone else doing here?

Also as I think I'm on the lanky side anyway (6'3 and just over 13 stone) I guess I don't need to worry to much about the fat shredder phase (phase 1)? Maybe will give it a go as it states it helps prepare muscles etc but expect I won't need the full 4 weeks of it.

Just do it properly I reckon, as soon as you start chopping and changing it'll probably lose the effect somewhat. I'm going to start on Monday and see if heart is up to it, go at it for a month and see how I'm doing. I have a pull up bar and some space but I don't quite have the weights selection he does, just a pair of adjustable dumbells, spose I could pause it if I need to change around I guess?

Found this http://teamripped.com/p90x-nutrition-guide which helps alot. On the nutrition side I think I'm just going to try and eat as healthy as possible and take protein shakes keeping an eye on the targets for each of the phases, tracking each in MyFitnessPal. Can always tailor it based on how I feel.

In terms of equipment I do have some free weights but ordered some of the resistance bands so will probably try using these as they seem easier.

Looking forward to getting started, just waiting on heart rate monitor to arrive and will start the tests next week hopefully biggrin

I'm not following the nutrition element other than for a rought guide on the balance of protein/carbs etc.

The book tells me I fit in the 3000 calorie bracket (mainly because I'm around 110-115kg!) but I'm using myfitnesspal to keep around the 1600 cals (net) level.

Today, I will be buying some push up bars (Nike ones for £5 in argos!) and some scales. Not because I have a target weight, but purely to help measure progress.

Last night we did Arms/Shoulders/ArX, already ArX was easier than on the first day which is very motivating. Looking forward to Yoga tonight!

Are you not trying to build muscle as well? Because you might need to take in more cals if you are.
Good progress so far, keep it going.

If you follow the instructions to the letter, you will more likely achieve what they promise. Theoretically. biggrin

I've bought the cheapest from Argos (not Nike, though, couldn't see them online) and they were fine. Also robust enough to throw down if I stand up holding them! And high enough for practising gym moves.

Yeah I got some cheap ones from argos and they are fine. Like how the bottom part pops off so I can throw them in my ruck sack and take them with me if I go away for the weekend or so.

That's that, too. I only use them at home, though. They're sturdy enough for me to lift my body completely off the ground. (Not sure how they will cope if you're an enlarged crusty, satisfying fast food that may or may not be subject to tax when sold hot.)

I've not started yet, are push up bars essential? I had planned to use the yoga blocks to get extra height if needed.

I'm doing the fitness test today, it's unlikely to be good news I'm sure wink

I'd like to build some, losing weight is more important to me really. What sort of net intake do you think I should aim for?

Calculate your BMR, eat about that many calories, maybe slightly less. The exercise will burn off fat, everything else goes for maintenance of current tissue. You don't want to heavily restrict calories as not only does it make you feel like crap due to low blood glucose, but your body has an annoying habit of preferentially burning off muscle if you go too low.

If you're 110 kg now, your BMR is going to be around 2100 cals, so aim for maybe 2k as a minimum. That's total intake - it's hard to measure exercise cals, especially with something like P90X so trying to work out net cals becomes quite difficult.

Has anybody had problems with the DVD's? I can get them to work on our main DVD player, but they won't load on my 12 months old Dell Laptop i3 core running 64 bit Windows 7. I need them to run on my laptop as I don't intend to be working out in the living room.

Anyone got a solution?

Is the region set correctly on your laptop? I'd assume they're region 2, but they could be region 1 if they're just imported straight from America. Your dvd player may well be multi-region, whereas a lot of laptop dvd drives are not (the dvd drive in my dell laptop isn't for instance).

That's right, however my understanding that I can only switch the Region setting of my laptop 5 times in the life of it, if I switch it more than 5 times it just locks out. As I will also want to watch UK dvd's switching is therefore not an option.

I have used DVD43 in the past to unlock DVD's but that's not compatible with 64 bit Windows 7, so I'm struggling a bit.
