earplugs in bed

Seems a bit bonkers to get quite so exercised about it. We agree that wax is produced and has to go somewhere. The bit of knowledge I was missing was the rate of production and any possible long-term ramifications of blocking the flow for 8 hours at a time. Not being an ear expert myself I felt the question was worth asking. Sorry that it's upset you.
Sorry it's a pet peeve. I have colleagues asking the same kind of thing because 'some bloke down the pub/mosque/coffee shop said XYZ' when a simple step back and a splosh of logic would probably answer the question for them....R300will said:
If you block up your ears for long periods at night then bacteria can grow easier which may increase the risk of infection, and if you shove them far enough down then yes you can impede wax drainage but not too badly i wouldn't think.
I worked nights for two years and wore earplugs for every sleep attempt. Never had any problems, must have been cos I was wearing them during the day, eh?I was what you might call a dedicated ear-plug wearer for years.
I wore them lots at weekends when I was motorbike racing. Same when riding bikes on the road.
I was also working nights - did nights for about 10 years in fact. Standard procedure when getting home at 7am - wedge my huge bit of cardboard into the window frame to black the room out, get into bed, insert earplugs.
In all that time, I never had any problems.
The huge print factory where I worked had huge boxes of those yellow 'Ear' brand earplugs for machine operators and customers to use whilst in the factory - so you can guess the source of the ones I used
So for me at least, no problems with long-term plug use for sleeping in bed.
