I look a look at that Convict Conditioning, read the review. One led me onto Stephen Low and another book.

I would love to be able to do 3, 5 and 6.
1) 1 Arm Press Up
2) 1 Arm Chin up
3) 1 Leg Squat (pistol to most people)
4) Hanging Straight Leg Raise
5) Stand to Stand Bridge
6) One arm handstand pressup

Check out this amazing one-arm handstand.

Re: 1 Leg Squat

Why do you struggle with this? (other than it's incredibly hard, obviously).

Most who try to nail pistols 'get' them within 3 weeks and five progressions. As long as you can proper squat about 1/2 your bodyweight they're easily within your grasp.

It's very important to keep your upper body forward for balance.A lot of people struggle with balance and a good way to practice is hold onto something in front as you lower, like a door or pole so your extended leg reaches along one side.Or hold the toes on the extended leg as it keeps you forward.

Holding something in front helps balance enormously;(larger items of furniture are not advised smile)

I have started using a 10kg weight like animal and it works much better than two DBs. But I have to do them on a box. I cannot keep my non-working leg straight. I can do ATG one-leg squat with the weight on a box, what I would ultimately like to do is one a full pistol on the ground with no weight.

Start with these (img 1) whilst holding the toes of your extended leg.It doesn't matter if the leg is bent as long as it's not touching the floor. If it is you need to work lower back and upper hamstring flexibility. You can stretch both in the same exercise (img 2).

img 2. Try and progress to leaning further over your knee..touch your forehead/chest to knee or as close as possible.Hold for 20 secs.

Or just stand, legs straight and bend forwards to touch your toes for a few minutes every day. Just relax in that position. We promise not to approach from behind.

When you are flexible enough, you can do L-sits/pike holds on the ground without needing parallettes.

I was working on getting from planche to pike hold (and back!) without the feet touching the ground a while ago. Only just remembered that was a mini-project of mine. I think I got bored as I couldn't see the benefit of doing it.

scratchchin

Maybe I should act my age.

Did my pistols on a box.
Ham stretching is an exhausting exercise in itself.

You're into/involved in martial arts, so what do you think about the selection debacle. Have they picked the right man or has it been decided by spite?

I think they've gone for the man most likely to do well at an Olympic level, but that doesn't mean he's the best fighter.I imagine there's a good deal of the powers-that-be in Olympic Taekwondo looking after they're own backs as well - this is always happening in MA.It will have a huge impact on the future of Olympic Taekwondo if the fighters do well.It may also have an impact on the careers of people who run it if the fighters do not. From what I've gathered the no.59 is actually potentially a better medal prospect and has been training hard for these games whereas the other guy has been chasing competitions up and down the country trying to earn the no.1 spot. The no.1 actually launched a court case which has now been dropped;it's not good for him,or either of them actually.Whatever happens now there is massive pressure on the no.59 to do well.

N.B. In my first quote I stated the chosen fighter was seeded no.89, this is not correct: he is seeded no.59. smile

Cheers - I've heard him, arguing his case, and various bods from the selection group interviewed and it sounded very fishy - like qualification 'points' being earned in some tournaments abroad that only certain nationals can enter! I also heard their justification that their pick was a better bet as he was taller, heavier, could kick higher, was superman etc. but refusing to accept that it might be sour grapes from his leaving the training programme. Not sure some of it sounded too convincing. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

But we digress!
