First Aid kit - what should be in there?

Just reviewing the first aid kit that i keep on my boat (racing sailboat, usually 5 to 8 people onboard pretending they are s
t hot sailors!)
most of the stuff in mine is now out of date or soon to be, so what would you have in there?

- several roles of surgical tape
- several roles of elastic bandage
- big packet cotton wool pads
- assorted waterproof band aits
- bottle TCP
- tube of antiseptic cream
- sterile wet wipes
- surgical gloves
- foil blanket
- alo vera gell
- panadol
Replace the TCP and antiseptic cream with a pack of antiseptic wipes
Scissors (worth getting the tough cut ones as they're not expensive)
Face shield (for mouth to mouth)
Steri strips
Tweezers (handy for splinters, and applying steri strips)
Field type dressings (various sizes small to large)
Cling film (good for covering burns and sealing sucking chest wounds)
I did meet an outdoors instructor once who's first aid kit consisted of gaffa tape, sanitary pads and cling film. He claimed that if an injury couldn't be treated with just those, then the patient was probably not likely to make it anyway
For more inspiration, have a look at the various first aid suppliers websites. They normally have kits targeted at specific situations and will generally list the contents.

Reliburn Burn Gel Sachet 3.5g - several.
They also do one with a foam pad soaked in the gel for larger burns. Theses are amazing! My daughter split boiling water out of the kettle on the back of her hand, I put a large one of these on wrapped in a bandage within seconds of it happening and a couple of days later there wasn't a mark!

Sounds about right to me, he is missing the needle and floss though.Get rid of the tcp, antiseptic cream and cotton wool. Replace with saline and gauze.
Not quite sure what you mean by elastic bandages, but normal bandages are all you need.

Good advice from all so cheers, some of the suggestions are already onboard and immediately available for other tasks but some very useful suggestions!
Sadly off the shelf first aid kits here tend to consist of band aids and strepsils so much appreciated - happy to get more suggestions, none of this is heavy kit (our presence at racing) and I am more than happy to have more than necessary!
One of the thi gs about boats, perhaps we only have basic first aid skills but we are normally (in costal sailing) only a mobile or VHF call from an expert, so carrying extra is good!

Most of the essentials have been mentioned but I would recommend a mediwrap blanket or two instead of foil blankets and an israeli field dressing for major bleeds and possibly a SAM splint for fractures.

First aid kits can get stupidly large if you try to add in all that people recommend. Do a risk assessment based on likely and past injuries and you'll be there or there abouts with what you need. Also keep in mind the competency of the people who are likely to use the kit. No point having items that sound good in theory but no one knows how to use!
