Crikey...I hope it's not you.
There's no such thing as a good cancer but if there was, liver cancer would not be it. Survival rates are as low as for any cancer.

You have a bit of a chance if they catch it early, but primary liver cancer is only ever caught by chance as it has no symptoms. By the time you know there's something up, it's usually too late to treat.

If it is you, don't listen to a word, I don't know what I'm on about!

I'd like to know a little more about this too if anyone could share. I know someone who has just been diagnised with this and it's throughout the liver, can't be operated on.

Tough times indeed.

All the best at your end chillstrucker.

Cancer Reasearch website is pretty good place to start

http://cancerhelp.cancerresearchuk.org/type/liver-...

There are other types of cancer that can be found in the liver though...my father had a carcinoid tumour in his liver which is a slow growing cancer.

thankyou all for replies.
no its not me, its my mother in law, a lovely woman.
she had stomache cancer, went through all the chemo etc, then a huge op to remove the whole stomache. although she can hardly eat, she is in good spirits and seems, "fine"
we just found out it has spread to her liver, and its the most aggresive kind, we have been told 2-4 weeks at best. devastating news, and odd, because on the whole she seems not to bad. can't figure it out, how is it all going to go so wrong so quick.

this on top of slowly watching my dad lose his battle to bowel cancer a couple of weeks back. buried him last monday, which was truly devastating, now this, not our year then.
i gave up my dream job at christmas to help look after dad, and along the way our washing machine, cooker, fridge and even my laptop have gone bang frown
i must have been a horrible barstard in a previous life.

Terrible news, I have been in a similar situation with my mother, although with breast that later(years) went to lungs and bones.

Living in Edinburgh she went to the Maggie's Centre from first diagnosis in 2006 until pretty the last couple of weeks in April. I don't know where you are http://www.maggiescentres.org/centres/ukmap.html but they are very friendly and will be able to offer advice or a friendly ear and even some tea and biscuits!

Might even be worth popping in yourself/taking your partner.

Keep strong!

The good side to cancer in the liver, if it can be called that, is your MiL won't be suffering for ages.

My father in law had prostate cancer, which had metastasised and spread, so he knew his number was up. We spoke to the McMillan nurse, he didn't want to die slowly or in pain. She went thru all the options and said "if it gets into the liver, you'll go downhill very rapidly and die very quickly.

So he said "that sounds like just the ticket, put me down for that please." She had to explain that he couldn't choose!

Anyway, he was in pretty good health all things considered, was discussing Xmas plans at start of Nov, but we noticed he looked a bit jaundiced. Cancer had spread to the liver, died in 2 weeks.

re the tea and biscuits.
dad was going to a hospice once a week, the people in these kind of places are amazing. what they do, and how they do it, is just fantastic. in fact at dads funeral, a fair bit of money was raised for said hospice.

hmmm, 2 weeks eh, its what we've been told. just doesn't seem right or fair. life eh rolleyes

A subject close to my heart..

My dad died this day last month from complications arising from surgery for Pancreatic cancer.

He had a whipple operation and came through it with flying colours.. sadly he died the day he was due to come home from an 'as yet unknown' complication... He is the first patient to die at the hospital from the operation and its had to go to coroner and now inquest so we won't get closure til December!

(which also means we wont know if it was avoidable or not til then)

Sad times. My thoughts are with anyone in a similar position.
