Going to gym...while hungry?
Discussion
Right, the considerable middle age bloating has really got to me. I am thinking of doing light gym sessions after work. Maybe three 1 hour sessions in my local gym after work per week.
The only problem is I will need to go to the gym after work followed by a short sauna session afters. This is around 5.30pm-6.30pm timeframe. I normally feel a bit hungry during this time.
Is it advisable doing this? I could go after dinner but due to the time the OH decides to cook dinner it'll be around 7.30pm by the time I finish dinner. I believe exercise is not recommended until at least 1 hour after dinner? This brings me to 8.30pm and I am not sure if the gym (or my motivation) is still accessible during that time.
Thoughts?
edit: I want to add I'm not aiming to bulk up or anything, I just want to keep slim and fit and I'm gaining a lot of pounds especially in the (beer) belly and thighs.

You could make a shake at work and drink it on the way home.
I've thought of this too. However, I'm not familiar with shakes... any recommendation? It takes around 15 minutes to get to the gym from work then followed by few minutes of changing and warming up.I don't intend to do any "heavy" stuff just want to work out and get back into shape...

Ironically enough the heavy stuff you mention is probably the most effective way to get back into shape and end up with a great body at the end of it!

Honestly you won't suddenly get big from weight training but if you do weights+cardio and a good diet you will rapidly transform your body. There's countless reasons why weight training helps remove fat from your body and it also helps keep it off. If you google it you'll find hundreds of reasons why it will ultimately yield massively improved results when mixed with cardio.

Cardio and diet is good if you want to look like a 11 year old boy after training

Thanks for the input I have no experience with weights bar some dumb bells so I will enquire more about the programs available at my local gym on this. My aim is just to somehow maintain my shape. I've always been trim and fit nicely into 32" trousers but lately noticed my beer guy expanding more than usual. This combined with expanding thighs is not a good sight Honestly you won't suddenly get big from weight training but if you do weights+cardio and a good diet you will rapidly transform your body. Hehe. Well, I was right about you! Here's my thread on changing from a couple of years ago http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
And I've completely flipped things on its head as now I'm going for looks and functional fitness is secondary.

Right about me, expand on that.
I said in the first reply that I thought you'd got the right body to develop a really decent physique in the body building sense (compared to the average man, at least!).I'd forgotten your previous names.
OP - you'll be fine. If you're worried, just push lunch a bit later or save a bit of your lunch for mid-afternoon.
Today I'll be eating lunch at 1pm (ish) and doing a running training session at 7pm, probably not eating until 8:30pm, with no problems (apart from fitness issues of course ).
