BBC Radio 4 had a half hour programme today, most of it about IGF-1 and the cancer risk it presents, fat storage and the effect different body types/mechanisms have on health and fasting diets.

A must listen for anyone on this thread I'd suggest - iPlayer version here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rl8nq
It's clear how/why she reaches the conclusions she does, there is no clinical evidence to support 'our' experiences. Until clinical trials are done it will remain thus. Because there is no evidence doesn't mean it doesn't work, it simply shows there is no evidence. Yet. wink
I'm happy to continue ADF and IF as it's having beneficial effects on my body composition and it just feels 'empowering', I've taken control of what and when I eat, rather than to an arbitrary timetable of three meals a day (plus snacks rolleyes).
I'm with you on this one. What is suspected but not yet known or proven to be true might well be so once the evidence is accrued over sufficient time.

It also signalled again the potential danger of a diet overloaded with calories and, especially, simple sugary carbs. I'm going back to a more ketosis type diet for 5 of my 7 days a week from here on on - 'diet has been crap this month and it shows!

I think the ADF would be hard to do forever because one fasting day you're just going to think 'fk it, I'm fking hungry" but IF 16/8 or 18/4 is really really easy, I'm on week 5 and feel pretty great for it, I can't see myself ever stopping to be honest.

I'm still sceptical with this 'fad' called ADF... how many of you guys are functioning on 600 cals a day yet able to build or maintain a physique of say a Ronaldo (Real Marid version!) or Lebron James?

Maybe for someone like myself, I train for a sport, breakfast alone is about 600 cals and as I train in the gym at least 3 times a week and throw in 2 hours of basketball and 3/4 hours on the tennis court aswell, I highly doubt eating that little would allow me to maintain a physique similar to the guys above and keeping very lean at 6% BF. Eating that amount would leave me flat as a pancake not to mention wasting away to just skin and bones.

Hell even 600 cals for a women would be too little never mind you lot who are 'powerfully' built with goatees biggrin
Maybe there should be a separate IF thread because if you just don't have breakfast, as stupid or agains the grain as it sounds, and you fit all your calories into an 8 hour window, it just seems to work better, makes you feel better and you lose fat from all the trouble areas quite a lot more easily.

I don't see 18/4 being easy.

Impossible, some might say, since it only adds up to 22. I meant to type 18/6 hehe

I know where you're coming from. This ADF thing, would appear to be very effective at removing 'padding' relatively painlessly. It's no good as a long term lifestyle though.

hehe

Can't believe people are still questioning the longevity of it. We covered this 3 pages ago.

I did 12/12 for 3 months with 16/8 thrown in a few times when it suited. Was easy. Could continue for life. Except I don't need to now.

It's essentially unbalancing your diet. It works, I'm not disputing that. Only time will tell if there are any detrimental effects in the long term.

Clearly, it's not. If anything, it's re-balancing the unnatural three squares a day.
We are 'designed' to fast periodically. There weren't fridges and supermarkets on every corner for most of the last 50,000 years or so.

There's debate and then there's just being wrong. Long term detrimental effects of fasting? Okay...

Week 7:

Feb 26th: 17st 12
Apr 15th: 15st 13
Target: 15st
Height: 6ft 1

2 pounds off this week despite my first takeaway of the campaign. Hitting the weights hard at the moment to avoid getting skinny arms. I'm hoping to reward myself with a new suit at the end of May for a wedding I have to go to, I was previously a 50" chest eek so will be interested to see what i'm down to by then.

Managed to piss the resident office fatty off yesterday by telling her losing weight was "easy" and you just need self discipline (I hate the bh anyway). You know the type, the first one to tell you all about her gym visits (Sauna) but then opens up a fk off bag of minstrels at her desk and scoffs the lot.

Week 8:

Feb 26th: 17st 12
Apr 22nd: 15st 7 1/2
Target: 15st
Height: 6ft 1

No cardio this week due to a strained back during a heavy weights session last Tuesday. Nothing much to report on the eating front, 600cal days have become second nature now & still eating pretty healthily on non fast days.

Lack of updates from elsewhere, how's everyone getting on?
