What Are Your Gym/Fitness/Routine Moans?
Discussion
People taking photos. It's "banned" in my gym but half of the staff can't be bothered to enforce it. A couple of weeks ago, there was a student doing a full-on skype/facetime session with someone and doing full panoramic sweeps of everyone else in there. Not on, in my book.
And people who put stuff in lockers without a padlock. You can open up three or four lockers in a row to find someone's stuff just sitting there because they're too stingy to buy a £3 padlock from the desk.

Hard. And realistically, I suppose they'd find somewhere else. All the same, I'd find it hard watching someone using a gym I owned to literally kill themselves.
Yip. If it was my gym, it wouldn't be about the cash. I'd intervene. Decent PTs I know have the ability to do it in a non-obtrusive way.V8mate said:
Is that a bad thing?
I always start a squat routine with a few warm ups of 60kg, squatting right down to 'African squat' level, pause, and then push back up. Feels like a good warm-up, as it covers the full range of the joints.
Then I load the bar up and carry on with 'normal' parallel squats.
Should I avoid warming up like that?

This is me
I have a pair of shoes for overhead, a pair of shoes for deadlifts/squats.
A belt for deadlifts
A belt for squats
A belt for overhead
Wrist wraps for overhead/bench
Figure 8 straps for deadlifts
Normal straps for heavy pull downs if needed.
Chalk
Liquid chalk
Knee sleeves for most of the above
Elbow sleeves for when needed
A deadlift suit (if I'm using it for that session)
A bottle of water
A bottle containing intra workout
I do 3 compound movements a session, soon to be 4 on my peak program starting next month.
A bag is my only option

Not really much of a moan but.. Whenever I use the cross trainer I like to take a pic of the display showing how many cals/distance I've burned in the 20 or 50min that I use it for. For some reason during the 50min I was on it women kept using the ones either side of me and when I came to the end I had 2 people either side,I didn't want look weird so I ended up not taking my picture. Boo. They'd probably think i were one of those people who takes it and posts it on social media, but I'm not.

Just take the bloody picture. If you're going to catch someone else's arse in shot, make sure its female and a good example. Providing you aren't obviously photographing arses there is no problem.Edited by ambuletz on Thursday 8th September 23:46

Does anyone else's gym have the early 20s guy that struts around giving everyone a dirty look inbetween 40 sets of curls?
Thankfully I find that most of those people tend to hang around the free weights or dedicated bench press & incline area. At my gym there's 2 areas for that, which is great. I seldom make eye contact with anyone unless it's to ask if they're using plates or how long until they're done using something. There is a black woman who comes in on wednesdays I think, and does really heavy front squats & power cleans. She easily looks like she could beat serena williams in a fight.. I tend to just avoid her (though she's probably rather nice)

Same as pure gym, same as anytime fitness, same as the gym group.
As regards price, yes they are cheap, wayyyyyyyyyyyy to cheap.
Prices are now lower than they have ever been. When I got into the business a normal membership was £35 - £45 a month and a £50 joining fee. People happily paid it.
Now, it's half that and the only person winning is the customer

Xercise 4 less.
Brilliant
There's a few meatheads at mine. I tend to go at times to avoid them. Though SOmetimes I am mildly surprised (I really shouldn't be) at how they veneer doesn't match their personality, likewise, the same goes for me.

I'd say other way round, I tend to use more legs lol. I *think* I deadlift more with my legs; you seem to lift more with your back. Horses for courses, or am I doing it wrong?
It's just down to levers, I'd need to see a video too to see if there's anything obvious but as long as you're improving and nothing's overly arched mid-low back I'd say you're fine
