Where have all these coprophiliacs come from?

There was no mention of going to the toilet in my post. And if other people in your gym are using equipment with st-smeared hands, then there's
1. Little you can do about it; probably better that it gets on your hands than into the material of your ghey gloves; and
2. Stop fking licking your hands! Just wash them at the end of your session before you have whatever you snowflakes consume post-workout.
someones angry, did someone steal your snickers bar?

No-one's angry. You simply don't understand my sense of humour.

Would you be happy to use a bit of equipment after some guy youve just watched come out of a cubicle?
What cubicle? I'm lifting weights not watching toilet doors. Perhaps you're overthinking this? smile

I do not wear gloves and I never use anti-bacterial gel (I blame it for kids constantly getting colds and having minimal immune systems) but I would appreciate if other humans washed their hands after using the toilet!

v8 I think the posts a few above yours talk about people going for a dump and not washing their hands then entering the gym, that is gross and unnecessary! I accused you of this for telling people to man up, it was in jest, just to clarify!

Taken in jest and responded in the same vein. It's the very fuel of this place.

Others amongst us don't seem to understand how banter works.

I was training at a small town powerlifting gym, Its all ive ever known, It was a great gym. There was no frills. It was effectively a hanger with weights in it. No changing rooms, The toilet was a walled in corner. Everything was well worn and rusty but you could tip up, lift heavy stuff, Put it back down and then leave. As it was a bit of a "hardcore" gym, everyone there generally was pretty well knowledge, Knew the etiquette etc.

Just moved to the big city and had my first taste of a pure gym today, Was a bit of a shock. Straight to the changing rooms and seen enough genitals to last a life time. Guys taking selfies everywhere. Including one who was taking one of his arse. Not even hiding it, Just reached around and snapped away.

never knew people did such silly things in gyms. Fortunately it was quiet so i could at least work out without any hassle bar a guy with a backpack on (actually wearing it while lifting) working right of the rack and blocking me from getting what i needed. I humorously just stood at 90's degrees on and stared at him hoping he would get the message but nope, Just carried on.

Its going to take some time to adjust to these kind of shenanigans.

The bellend at Fitness First (or the audio company they use) that felt this was a suitable tune to be played in a gym!

Wow, I can just feel the motivation ooze through me...

Folk worry to much nowadays!

You're not made to be constantly sanitised, what happened to manliness! wink
Exactly.

We're all doomed come the zombie apocalypse if everyone who has spent years ensuring they are strong and fit runs around screaming because they can't find their hand sanitiser.
My gym has no shower, a squat toilet and the sink is a plastic barrel with a dipper and some soap next to it. No aircon either and it must get up to high 20C's in there.

Some of the locals train in jeans!

However it's very rare to have anyone smelly in there, despite the buckets of sweat pouring off people.

I wash my hands when I get home (and shower once I've cooled down) mostly to remove the rust stains from my palms - I have yet to die of any disease caught from there.

Hand sanitizer....ha ha ha.

This is the foyer of the old Reebok Gym, Canary Wharf. The developers actually went bust 10 months after opening back in 2003ish. Initially they asked £1,000 joining fee and £200 a month I recall. It did have great facilities. It should have for a built cost of £25M. I think they have hand sanitiser biggrin

what the hell? at £200/month what facilities did they have? a happy ending after each workout? some kind of in-house dating system? looking now at their website it's £145-170/month, which is still a crazy price.

You can see that they do have great facilities. If you use them 5 times a week, good value. I didn't pay that. I recall they have a pre going bust deal of £60/month and no joining fess. I worked in CW and lived there so it was convenient. Of course it attracts a certain type but i just did my stuff and ignored all the theatrics. I'm just as happy slumming it pretty much anywhere. Current gym has plenty of scary looking guys in it with facial tatts and metal in their face. Doesn't bother me. biggrin

The pool in that gym has a soft spongy bottom to prevent diving injury.

At my normal gym there are some right dirty Marys who use the provided tissue to wipe down benches when they have finished lifting but then leave the now wet tissue all over the floor.

I was away for work last week and the hotel I was staying at had a decent half rack and free weights section that I had to myself first thing in the morning. I normally use the hammer shoulder press machine at my normal gym as it enables a few more sets after standing shoulder presses with the barbell so I went to use the one at the hotel gym. Loaded it up the machine, got the seat adjusted, pushed up on the handles and no resistance at all. Turns out the cables were completely missing, why couldn't they put an out of order notice on it? Valuable minutes lost.

Now I've finally splashed out on a full (second hand) rack for home so hopefully all of these annoyances are a thing of the past. Cost me ~£500 for the rack complete with pulley system for plate weights, bench with leg extention, 7' Olympic bar, 2* Olympic dumbells, ~170kg of cast iron plates, 2 weight trees, preacher table for the bench, ez curl bar and a bunch of attachments for the pulleys. I need another couple of pairs of 20kg plates but otherwise I'm good to go.

Made a lot of sense financially as my son started lifting with me over the summer once he finished his GCSEs, the rack should pay for itself in less than 6 months and hopefully I'll see the back of the annoyances from a public gym.

Plenty of london gyms at those kind of prices. One near me is about £150 per month and is horrendously average. Not much good for any kind of workout, but it's a lifestyle thing. It's about being a member and going once a month, not actually being in shape.

I've been discriminated against as well!

Found out a few months ago that one of my mates that goes there pays half of what I do.

She has to pay £3.50 a month as she is Indonesian, whereas they charge me £7 a month.

You think for the extra £3.50 they could buy a bottle of hand sanitiser for me......

You could use those facilities twice a day, 7 days a week and £170 a month would not be good value. There plenty of 'full service' clubs with everything you could want for £50 a month, or slightly more dependent on location.

Gym companies must be rubbing their hands together over people who don't shop around or look at what value they can get a from a gym membership. Plus, you don't need much in the way of facilities to get results. Paying upwards of £1500 a year may give you nice bouncy floors and power showers, but I'll guarantee the average shape of the person in there will be no better than countless alternatives at a quarter of the price.

Each to their own, Matt. My current gym is about £40. When i was a member in Canary Wharf I swooped on a couples deal of £90/m for both of us. This was 10 years ago though. Would I pay £170 now. No. Are people who do, idiots? No. It's their choice and if you know Canary Wharf it could simply be a case of, no real alternative.

I would hazard a guess that the running costs of that place are frightening. Rent on 10k sq feet in CW would be at least 500k plus council tax at 40% again. 700k rent. Rough guess. They require 100k a month in income just to keep the doors open. smile

Pay £35 quid a month for a DW sports membership, nice pool, hot tubs and steam room if that's your thing!

The gym is good with functional space, cardio and decent weights/machines. I use it at least 5 times a week and think its great value.

This is in the SE btw, no need to pay £50+ unless in London in my opinion.
