What Are Your Gym/Fitness/Routine Moans?

That's douche behaviour.
I would always say "I will need them in 10 minutes but am happy to share".
Most people would then not take them, strangely. I guess because they want to "own" the plates for their entire time in the gym.
I'm always surprised by the amount of people who, when asked, don't like the idea of sharing. "I've only got three sets left" etc. I would always say "I will need them in 10 minutes but am happy to share".

To which I reply "Ah, great, well if you don't mind I'll do a set while you're resting between them then."
A year ago a guy shoulder barged me in the gym because I asked to share (the only) leg extension machine in the gym. When he flatly refused to budge off the seat for 10 minutes I stood staring at him until he finished. I think he called me something rhyming with 'cat', then five minutes later barged me. This resulted in a furious row to the astonishment of every other gym-goer and (shamefully) we had to be pulled apart. Not my finest moment!
My gym/fitness moan?
I've just injured my left shoulder bench pressing. First 2 reps were ok, the third rep needed me to dig in a bit and clunk, my left shoulder made a horrible noise. It feels like I've pulled my rear deltoid. The joint feels ok. I might take a couple of weeks off bench press..... I've been training 3-4 times a week for the last 4 years and never had an injury, hope this is a short recovery time.
Christ it made me sweat, I'm still sat here at my desk quietly perspiring.

If it turns out to be your rotator cuff, it took me almost two years to get back to the weight I had on the bar at the time of the injury I've just injured my left shoulder bench pressing. I hope it isn't. I can move my arm around without too much pain. I guess the next few days will tell...Do not try doing weights hoping 'it might be okay', it'll only get worse. Trust me on this, I was an idiot.
Switch to pulling instead of pushing. Find other movements that don't stress the area.
Try an arc test - see if that points to an impingement. If yes, get some proper professional help and treatment.
Here's hoping you'll be okay.
It appears to be getting worse (stiffer anyway) so I think it might be a rotator cuff strain, it wasn't painful enough to be a tear.
Oh well, I guess everyone gets injured occasionally. Gives us something to moan about.
I'll have a week off the gym next week and then go back with just pulling exercises and squats when I get back.
Bugger.....

No sharp pain when it occurred = probable Grade 1 strain.Oh well, I guess everyone gets injured occasionally. Gives us something to moan about.

2-3 weeks off and the shoulder should be OK. Lucky!

That's right no sharp pain when it occurred just a very unpleasant sensation/noise followed by me going very pale and sweating quite a bit.
I'm hoping it doesn't take too long as I've been making real progress in the gym over the last couple of months.

That's always the way. In a week, if there's no pain/lack of mobility, you could try very light/high rep rotator cuff exercises to try and pinpoint the weak area and get some healing blood in there. Good luck. That's right no sharp pain when it occurred just a very unpleasant sensation/noise followed by me going very pale and sweating quite a bit.

Does anyone have recommendations on what to look for when finding a gym?
I am fortunate enough to have a variety of gyms within a driveable distance but struggling to work out what might be the best. Ideally want a decent gym with classes & potentially a pool. One near me has a small rock climbing wall which peaks my interest.
Another is a Nuffield but concern is with the 'bigger names' you pay more but get poor service/closures for refurbishments, broken machines. At least that is what the reviews on Google seem to indicate.
Ideally go to a smaller gym if it means it will be quieter. Just wondered if anyone has any tips or knows of sites that give honest reviews as not sure an induction will really give me the full picture.

- Busyness (some are busier than others at peak hours - can mess you up if you're not flexible and want to stick to a strict ruotine, but less of an issue off-peak)
- Opening hours (I used to quite like the freedom of a 24 hour gym)
- "Scene" (roidheads, posers, yoga pants, crossfit)
- Friends (want to go with a buddy? go to their gym)
- Price
Most gyms will do a day pass (sometimes for free), so your best bet is to try them out and see which you click with.
I've been a member of a number of gyms and my current one is great. (Pump Gyms)
It's huge! They have so much kit, and multiples of kit, all well spaced, so that even if the car park is full, the gym still feels empty and no queues.
Off the top of my head, they have four flat bench racks, two incline and two decline bench racks, three squat racks, two Smith machines, 12 benches. Loads of plates; never a shortage. There are multiples of most dumbbells, e.g. 4 sets of the most popular like 10 and 12kg, three of the next most popular and two of most of the others.
In a separate area, they have three further racks with Olympic bumper plates; a landmine bar and two large punch bags.
There are two lanes for pushing pulling a weighted sled; five narrow cable pull set-ups, and one wide one. Two each of overhead and seated pull thingers. Five seated leg press machines (various angles) and then probably two dozen 'weight machines' for the various managed exercises.
Oh. And a load of machines for that cardio bks plus spin rooms and other group workout rooms.
And all for £15.99. (£19.99 for new members now)

this is kind of a health moan than a gym one.
Young colleague i work with, very early 20s. good lad.
anyway, he gave some snack to another colleague and said he doesn't want to eat it, he's on a diet he gets given one by his parents on a regular basis. I then said to him 'there's no reason why you can't have it as part of a sustained calorie deficit if you want to lose weight'.
he said 'wuhhh' and looked at me like was speaking some kind of foreign language. he goes to classes in the hopes he's losing it but doesn't really change his diet.. seems to think the exercise alone will sort him out.
genuinely quite suprised at how many people don't know the proper way in which you're meant to lose fat. they all seem to think you just exercise, starve yourself, get grumpy for afew days then relapse and give up.

slight moan.
I'm there doing deadlifts on the olympic platform thing that has a squat rack. to my right is someone on another platform also doing squats. guy from my left walks over my platform then walks over the mans platform who's now backed himself up halfway. this moron is too close, he grabs the matt on the other side and grazes the guys feet that's doing squats.
st like that really annoys me. if someone's lifting i wait. under no circumstances do i ever walk onto their platform, i walk around. the only time i may ever walk across their platform is if i can see they're sat down resting.

Rickmansworth, hertsI do think puregym/exercise4less offer great value for money and are 24/7.
I also train at a spit and sawdust gym once a week.
Then there is a powerlifting gym local that’s super friendly and they actively want to give advise and get you lifting correctly!

At the last gym I went to a lad squeezed past my bench pressing bench to get his water bottle off the windowsill and bodged the 120kg barbell I was pressing. Luckily I had the safety pins in and I could put it down. It's still annoying when you fail a lift and end up having to strip the bar to get it back on the rack to have another go.
