I've got Olympic shoes, and I've got vibrams. They are both the best. THe added security with the shoes for any athletic lift or overhead work is brilliant. I like to switch them around and will do all power/O lifts in them.

There is a brilliant addidas/reebok outlet shop in Stockport, amazing prices, I'm going there this/next week.
Having said that, after waiting for yonks for a decent OL shoe, I eventually shelled out for the top addidas model a few years ago. A great purchase as I've looked after them and they still look new today.

When I used to squat and deadlift I always wore flat-soled boxing training shoes. I read somewhere that it was easiest on the knees, Mark Rippetoe I think.

Mind you, I can't do either of those lifts now because my knees went, so be careful about listening to advice!

The New Year New Me fitness crowd has started up at the gym i frequent now.

Last nights new lot didnt seem to understand the concept of lockers or the coat pegs and seem to think its a good idea to leave coats or jumpers in walkways or working out right next to kettle bell bench, flailing around so you cant get near them.

A Pure Gym opens soon so itll be interesting to see if people leave for there or what itll have in there. Though reading about Pure Gyms on here, im not holding out much hope for the type of people who frequent it

Also, rumour has it, the gym fitty is leaving, who quite clearly fancies me as i always catch her staring at me in the mirrors or she gets to the work out stations next to the one i use just before i get there, its as if she knows me workout routine.....

on another note, watched some guy just stare at every girl that walked past him, not in the subtle way but a literal 90 degree head turn and stare.

This kind of thing really makes me angry.

Spoils it for the rest of us who've mastered the art of sneaking a glance in the mirrors.

Tbh, half the time I just flat out ignore the obvious ones that have gone out of their way to gain attention.

I mean, nothing wrong with wanting to look good and feel good about yourself but the sheer narcissism on display can be nauseating at times.

Definitely, nobody goes to the gym wearing size-too-small lycra trunks and knee socks completely oblivious to the attention it might attract. Unfortunately my attention is easily attracted spin

hehe

I'm a gym pro - I can use double reflections in the corners of gyms so that the person I'm checking out looks like they're standing next to me and we're actually dating.

wink

I think there's a difference between looking good, and literally going out of your way to attract as much attention as possible.

Then again, we live in time were narcissism is nurtured and encouraged by social media.

I tink the sport/fitness culture that is helped/enchanced by social media is a good thing. I prefer that to the other subcultures that are emerging, the ones that espouse unhealthy lifestyles.

Guys do it as well in their muscle vests/cut down t-shirts.

I wanted to ask my gym stalker is she likes all the guys watching her train in her tight clothing but ive only ever seen her out when im with the missus, so im not allowed to.

On another note, how do these guys wear short shorts (mid thigh length) and not have their junk pop out when squatting/doing anything other than standing still?

And finally, saw a guy squatting 100kg (think it was 100, if we apply fat man maths, then say 180) in Nike Air 270's

Daft, IMO.

Although, it does say a lot for the robustness of the 270s!

Of course, the engagement of the (good) fitness centric YouTubers is largely, imo, a force for good.

The underlying culture that says posting constant selfies is totally ok is cancerous -posting stuff on social media purely for the purpose of gaining "likes" and other such fawning adulation is deeply unhealthy, imo.

...and the fitness culture is one of the worst for engendering it.

Just like with dating, gotta practice with the fatties before going for the hotties.
