Terrible shoes. I bought some and they’re SO uncomfortable. Couldn’t ever imagine doing any heavy lifting in them. They’d probably pop!

I tink the sport/fitness culture that is helped/enchanced by social media is a good thing.
Sport/fitness culture? Whilst every New Year a new cohort joins the local gyms I use I haven't identified any particular improvement in health/fitness of this group. It seems vanity has increased and dedication decreased. They seem to leave just as soon but spend less time training and more time selecting music on their phone. Maybe it's just the gyms I use. I think gym membership has risen, particularly for the over 30s, and I've noticed the starting age has dropped a bit, but they leave just as quickly!

I just cancelled my gym membership today.

My gym had a kids club who are sectioned off from other gym goers and they do bodyweight exercises and I thought it was a really good idea until the other day.

Last week a 8yr old kid ran in front of me as I was swinging a 40kg kettlebell explosively and it must have missed his head by a few inches. I spoke to the PT looking after them and then left the gym. I went back today and there was another kids club on and I could not even get a workout going - grabbed my kit and cancelled my membership.

It's funny how you think you are ok but something inside is shaken to the core.

40KG to the face with force behind it could kill an adult. Let alone a child. I don’t blame you and would probably have done exactly the same.

Hope you managed to get out without too much penalty and hopefully the gym can try and rectify any issues for the safety of the children.

Honestly, running a kids club at a gym where the kids can get access to the actual gym floor sounds like trouble.

Firstly, Jesus that could have ended very badly indeed frown

Secondly, is the gym running a daycare of children aspect? If so, you should contact the CQC and voice your concerns.

No the kids had their own routine to do supervised by 2 PT. They were supposed to stay in there own area but you know kids, unless you cage them in then they are going to explore.

No but I was just looking at joining David Lloyd as an alternative - do they do kids clubs too? if so I might skip. - probably too expensive anyway.

Chap today. Ventured into the hallowed ground of the “other weight room” - frequented by the meathead self obsessed and self titled celebrity Instagrammers of the gym.

Three members of that club were over by the heavy bags. Walked past a hugely loaded bar (excess of 300kg) and to the station next to it

I like it because it’s quieter and there is more room around the bar racks. Back day today so did deadlifts. Loaded up my bar (160kg, wanted to get 4 sets in) and checked my little book to see what my PB was/what I did last time etc.

Did my first set, happy that it was doable, thought about adding maybe 5kg to each end.

Chap returns to his huge lift, does a deadlift (well) and then screams a huge grunt after that and the following two. Looks across to me, makes eye contact, then looks down at my bar, up to my eye level and smirks. Then goes back to join the others for more selfies.

Seriously, why would I give a fig what he can lift up?

Also, “posing” I’m torn on this when it’s a gym hottie. But if I’m in the gym at say 6am before work, I often see a few of them practicing this, kind of like a Hindu dance, to show off their bodies and their cutting. Is it me or is this literally the most narcissistic thing?

I’m an in-out-shower-work kind of chap, the whole place is a torture chamber so I can’t see why anyone would want to spend hours in there looking at themselves.

Rant over

They do. It's supervised, and if memory is good, it is 8ish to 14ish. I think over 14s can go on gym floor unsupervised (not free weights section). Kids under a certain age go in the young kids bit, which not on the gym floor.

Generally I'm against it, but Arnold makes a good point, though relevant mostly to those who compete rather than to spam snapchat / instagram.

My Fitness First runs actual proper classes on this kind of thing on a saturday morning. Studio is chock full of hotties in the skimpiest bikinis imaginable posing themselves into shapes designed to show off, primarily it would seem, their wonderfully sculpted buns. biggrin

THt was really good. Love listening to AhNold, I ended up watching the whole thing. I have a mate who sometimes mixes in his circles, I'd love to meet him someday.

Screamers, why? why the hell do you have to talk to your muscles and scream everytime you do a rep?

also the people that scream doing a phantom rep with no weight, I can see doing a rep without a weight on the bar can help in getting the movement right but screaming while you do it?

We've a 'modern' couple that come into the gym at the local leisure centre (best for miles around so I can't complain about that). He's a fat typical hipster, with the baby slung across his chest. He bimbles about the gym while she works out, that's if she's not breast feeding it. Last time they were in they changed a nappy at the side of the free weights section. It stank and people were trying to work out around them.

The staff were made aware, a duty manager came in, bottled it and walked straight out again.

There's a time and a place - a gym isn't it.

Have I said anything? Nope - I don't want to get involved unless they actively endanger the kid, which they haven't yet. Otherwise it will turn into having a discussion with someone who will never see themselves at fault and little Crispin has rights, or something. I can't be arsed. I just move away from them.

I'd hope they don't change the nappy in the café either!

It helps with a heavy lift. It's just natural to grunt or shout with a lot of effort, can help you drive through a sticking point.

Though this is just bullst 'look at me!' behaviour. Doesn't matter how much you lift if you're a total tt.
