Not so much a gripe, more a sad reflection. A youngish lad whose ace I recognise from my current gym from the past however many years, was in tonight same time as me, he always does a decent routine based around powerlifting, tonight was the classic; squat, bench and deadlift. Working up to heavy singles. Noticed tonight he's lifting in all three more than I probably could...annoying when that happens (rarely)
youth is wasted on the young. wobble

Mid-20 year old guy last, back and shoulders was a join th dots of spots/pimples example (so glad i wear a 't-shirt' in the gym) wearing elbow sleeves to do tricep kickbacks

A 'friend' posted a picture of himself doing kick backs, him 45 degree bend over at the waist standing, arched cat for the top with the head turned 90 degrees to watch the gainz in the mirror

People who film themselves lifting, il sure in some capacity this has been mentioned before.

What irked my follicles today though is that I’m training a girl from my bootcamp as she isn’t happy with her weight, just giving her advice on how to lift and best ways to make the most of the equipment. Anyway some lunch was filming herself doing deadlifts, with my friend in the background.

This is now on the gym’s instagram feed, which I think it a bit much.

Isn't filming your self pretty much the only way to check form?

Depends what you're doing I suppose. Usually when you turn your head your body follows to some extent. I think for squats, deadlifts etc video is the common way of doing it.

Ask a friend/trainer to check your form?

Without a good observer next to you, it's probably the best. SOme people also remote train, via phone cams. A weightlifting gym near me does that

I train on my own.

It's not uncommon anyway. I don't see the issue with it. Gyms are not private spaces so being caught in the background of someones video isn't a big deal.

I would sooner see more people videoing them selves and checking their form. It's a good thing.

Most gyms I frequent have mirrors. They are there specifically so someone can check their form when lifting. As has been the custom for decades. Newer gyms seem to be moving the mirrors round a bit. In front of the squat rack is good, the back of the lat machine not so good.

Form checking in front of a mirror isn't the best IMO, you become reliant on it. I've seen a bunch of times where you take away the mirror, and the persons form falls to bits because you've removed their reference point, and they can't do it by feel alone.

I think filming is best. I’m not skilled enough to watch my form and maintain it at the same time.

I think the issue was that during the filming, someone who didn't want to be filmed was captured doing their exercises, this was then posted publicly!

I would have just spoken to the person filming and explained I am sure it would have been fine!

I am attempting to film my swim stroke at the moment, I will just ask the life guard the best way to do it as I am sure filming in a swimming pool is a minefield!

People filming in the gym does my head in, tbh.

I'm not exactly a shrinking violet, but I really hate being caught in someone's video, or being in the presence of someone filming, I find it really off-putting irked

I'm not the only one either, quite a few folk at the gym have complained about it.

I don't buy the form check excuse either, because the vast majority of the time it's just attention whoring on social media.

And then the smart phone came a long and provided something better.

Something being customary is neither here nor there in a gym.

Really irks me when some one gets in the way when I'm trying to film a set, very selfish!

Agree. But to put it on Instagram (and probably Facebook but I’m not on that), with some ridiculous GAINZ WEDNESDAY FEELS LIVING MY BEST LIFE nonsense it begs the question
