Sure you can. Your brain tricks you to want to smoke, there is no 'need'. Mine used to fabricate arguments as an excuse. Now I just row with the wife for sts and giggles.

Just get really really drunk then have a 48 hour hangover.

Never feel like smoking with a hangover

What triggers it? I put mine down to a few reasons. Then though about the reasons and realise they were pretty crap reasons.

Then looked for a good reason and the overwhelming one was seeing out my retirement being able and mobile not tied to a chair on oxygen or going through clogged arteries etc. etc.

Think about it, if it were invented today it would be illegal. Nothing in it is good for you.

I stopped 1 April 2014 after 40 years of 17 a day, one per hour! Used patches for 3 months so cost £8 odd for the prescription charge not £160 over the counter. Had good and non-judgmental support from the GP's practice nurse, properly trained to help. So today is day 2004 and the amount of money not burnt in that time is very welcome!

Stick at it those who are trying to stop, and every time you feel like lighting up, have a drink of iced water and go for a 3 minute walk

My father, now 91, stopped 30 years ago, but in his mind still has not given up

I'm 13 months stopped. Still vaping, but only just. Zero nicotine and about 10ml a week.

Don't feel any different but I definitely smell better. (•‿•)

10ml a week of zero nic?

That should be an easy 'habit' to break! Is that just having a vape after dinner or something? I vape more than that every day but i 'sub ohm'

As a sub ohmer , 12mg is too strong but i agree about the smokes. I don't want one.

Last year I was on Holiday in a country that still allowed personal freedoms and you can smoke while you had a beer and played pool. I ran out of vape juice and eventually I folded and lit up a smoke but it was foul so i just binned it after one puff. I am glad that happened, I now know that if i run out of juice , i wont be falling back on proper smoking, i will just go without.

I am no longer a smoker!

I'm not into the big plumes of smoke just the regular reasons for Vaping.

All i know is its far cheaper than cigs and the affects are still unknown so i'll continue for now.

Have to think about quitting the vape at some stage...

Just less than 2ml a day, so maybe 12ml a week or something. It's just the habit tbh, the hand to mouth action, but I think it might be the hardest one to crack.

I read or turned the pages of a different book each day for the first month while on the high dose patches, drank loads of iced water and pottered in the garden, as ways to break the hand to mouth cycle. It took only days for my carbon monoxide level to decrease to virtually zero and my skin took about a month to recover as the capillaries got healthy blood back in them. Understanding the bad science of smoking is a real help in quitting and staying that way

Ok, so I’m in. After spending the day in A&E being used as a pin cushion and having more wires connected to me than Google’s servers, it’s time to stop.
I’ve been diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition, ironically not smoking related, but it’s given me the fking big scare I needed to give up the weed.

I’ve been dabbling in vaping on and off for a few years, so I’m gonna hit that hard. Last ciggy is tonight before bed, so it begins tomorrow.

I think the biggest challenge is that due to the diagnosis I’ve also got to stop alcohol (which might be a help giving up the fags), but i’ve also got to give up caffeine. I was a stereotypical, morning coffee and a fag, kind of person. Mornings are going to be a bit of a challenge!! I’m not allowed to use patches, sprays or gums. The doc reluctantly agreed vaping was ok if it got me to the end goal.

So, wish me luck, and hints or tips for cold turkey greatly appreciated.

Don't have that last one tonight. Ceremonially snap it on half for an initial victory of mind over matter.

Would you to use vapes with zero nicotine? If the docs are begrudgingly saying vaping is ok, it probably isn't ideal. Bin the whole lot off, we'll hold your hand!

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I gave up smoking a couple of years ago now. At the time I had basically accepted that I would smoke forever and die of a related illness. I thought giving up would be impossible for me as I enjoyed it too much and it was a routine part of my life. Every task ended with having a smoke. It was unimaginable that I could stop....but I did.

I ordered some Champix online. You should speak to your GP about this as your medical condition may affect what you can take.

I took Champix for a couple of weeks essentially as an experiment as at the time I wasn't really ready to stop.

That's all I needed to stop and I haven't had a single one since.

Vaping is a smoking substitute and will not get you out of the smoking routine. That is the most difficult part of giving up. You need to fill the time you spent smoking doing other things, which is probably 2 hours a day.

Good luck

Oh and you'll feel amazing when you stop.

Good to know, but I don’t think I’ll struggle with that. I like a drink, but my social life died years ago with having kids. Giving up the occasionally glass of wine with dinner hopefully won’t cause me any bother.
