I gave blood once... don't know whether it was just unlucky or related but here we go... gave blood on the Thursday evening, then next morning woke up with a painful leg, went to work, saw there was a small bite on my lower ankle, by lunch time my ankle was as thick as my thigh, with tracking lineS going up to my groin! Went to a and e, straight Into a bed and on a powerful anti biotic for the next 7 days, turned out I had cellulitus and septisemia! So after that experience it has put me off a bit.....

I do. B Neg. My son was seriously poorly when he was younger and needed a blood transfusion so it made me think that if it hadn't been for some other kind soul donating we would have been in a bit of a mess. Off topic, and don't laugh at me, but what I found weird when he had is transfusion is that they pump the new stuff in, but don't take any of the old stuff out! So, it's not like an oil change...

That's the final straw!! Foxes, Club, Walkers crisps. Someone's scimming off the snack budget in W. London. We don't getting any of that good stuff. They can whistle for my blood...I quit!

I'm donating at a mobile centre tomorrow so I'm thinking that the standard of refreshment may not be too high. I'll report back afterwards...

If you want really good stuff you should donate platelets. You get cakes...

Also, you help people with severe illness thumbup

My 25th donation will be in March. Ours books appointments up to 7pm. Would be nice for a little later, but the staff are there from before 12 to get set up.
From memory the one closest to my old workplace was shut around 4pm ish. Or stopped taking volunteers at that time. It was a while back.

Just had a google and there is nothing near me at a time I can get to short of taking a half day from work. I've got some holiday to use and some errands to run so I'll try and arrange them around each other.

Is there any reason hospitals don't offer this service?
