Hi
Plus of course I have a house and garage full of stuff that I just dont have the energy or strengh to shift and sell.
Has anyone used House Clearance companies when someone has died ?
It's helping with that sort of thing that PH-ers might be able to help with - advertising cars etc if that might help? Worth a thought.

Bloody awful news. I was living on my own at one time when diagnosed (nowhere in the same position as you) but the first thing I did was make a will. I didn't want to leave everything to the government (intestate). So I made inquiries into leaving my estate to a charity. In my case it was the RAF Benelovent Fund but you may have one you support, or take an interest in. You could consider one of the cancer charities even (although this may not be high on your list at the moment, understandably). They take care of everything so there is no need to start clearing your sheds or worry about house clearance as they take care of all that once the estate is passed to them. Do check the details if this is something that might help you make the most of your time. Best wishes.

Hi Charles, sorry I missed this yesterday.
Actually thats a really good point. As my username suggests I got a driveway of knackered old cars that are going to need disposal, plus a big motorohome thats currenlty sorn and with no MOT as I been ill last 2 years with something else so its just been sat, and a pretty good Jag x300 thats also been sat last 2 years.
If anyone is near Southport/Ormskirk and fancys lending me a hand or just helping with actually moving them / advertising them, I would be very very greatful.

Also while I am asking, is there any cheap ways to get a will and a power of attorney ? I have zero dosh (just a huge over draft) and just cant afford solicitors at the moment. Do any of the Cancer places offer any help ?

Also thanks to the guy who suggested the RAF fund as a place to leave belongings and then they do house clearnace which would be a huge weight off my mind. Does it matter than I have nothing of great value, its going to be just dvds/books/furniture etc sadly no PH £20K watches :-) But I do have a good collection of Aldi Tat :-)

Thanks again to everyone, was just in blind panic yesterday so was good to get some pointers of were to start with it all.

If anyone local wants to get in touch, then dont PM as its never worked, just email me direct on AndyLyons@Gmail.com any help or advice welcome, or just someone to have a chat about cars with :-)

Please call Macmillan, there are support payments availiable, have you been given a DS1500 this will fast track a PIP,

With regard to the POA you can complete the forms without a solicitor, there are reduced fees for registering it if you meet certain criteria.

Will, some useful information here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/free-chea...

Cheers Tumblr, I wasnt given anything when I left hospital yesterday, literally saw urologist for about 5 minutes who told me about tumour and cancer, told me looking at months left. Then saw nurse for about 10 minutes (she was rushed of her feet) and left with a peice of handwritten paper with her name and name of next person I will see to have an operation to try and stop the blood clots from the kidney that are causeing huge pain and trouble as they block the uretha.

I tried to add you as friend on the macmillan website, it been good to read others storys.

Hi
This morning been told I have inoperable kidney and lung cancer :-( . I have been told I have months not years to go.

I just wondered if anyone has had similar and how they cope and what sort of practical things they do, how to get affairs in order etc.
I have no family and no close friends, live on my own, so dont really have anyone to talk to about it all or what I am supposed to be doing, so thought I would share my thoughts and worries on here.

Any advice most welcome, its all come as a bit of a shock, started with a bit of blood in pee end of July, had CT Scan on 14th of Sep and this was the result today.

Cheers

Andy

Having supported my cousin through losing her husband to a very aggressive kidney cancer, which went on to spread elsewhere, at the start of 2016 you are in my thoughts.
I'm glad to see you are looking at Macmillan, they were a godsend to us & can advise on lots that you would not expect. Also look to see if you have a support center in your area, we have http://www.palliative-care-east.org.uk/the-louise-... locally who are very helpful. Googling your area Southport & Ormskirk NHS were commended last year for their palliative and bereavement teams so do badger your urologist/nurse/anyone you have a number for in the department you have been seeing to get referred to speak to someone there for support, Macmillan may also be able to help connect you up.
Personally I would say do not just settle & resign yourself to this, yes straighten things out in case, but also do research alternative therapies and see if there are any potential trials you could get on, Nick was put forward for assessment for a trial too late, if he had been stronger there would have been options. I realise not everyone believes in alternative therapies so personal choice but Nick felt reiki & meditation helped him a lot to slow things, he lasted 18 months after diagnosis.
& make sure you make some enjoyable plans, don't just survive from one appointment to another.

Some good advice in the thread Andy. Do make contact with Macmillan, they will help.

I have posted some details in the Barge 1-5 thread - there may be someone local-ish that can help with car disposal.

Good luck, and chin up.

I always feel for everyone who posts here. Macmillan have given good advice, and here in Scotland, Clan Cancer have been very supportive to my wife. She is unusual in that she has now survived way beyond any expectations, though the condition remains inoperable and terminal. We decided to make the best of things but it's not been easy. My daughter survived a brain tumour and we recently had the funeral of one of my wife's cousins who she grew up with. You all have my sympathy.

Just 3 weeks after he was diagnosed he was told that it was worse than first thought and he was given a very slim chance of surviving.

They have not bothered with the radio therapy but are going straight to chemo.

The tumour is inoperable and if the chemo doesn't have good results that it.

We were told this last Thursday, both me and my wife just sat and cried.

Then they came over to see us and he looked so well.

But yesterday I lost it and just broke down, to be honest it had been coming for a few days.

So for the first time in more than 6 years I went to see a GP.

Funny thing, I told the GP that I was drinking and smoking more than usual - she said well that understandably, try not to drink to much and we'll worry about the smoking another time.

He's not even half my age.

Really feel for you and your family Steve . What you are all going through I can't possibly comprehend .
I've no direct experience so to speak but I'm sure McMillan will be good to talk to and offer some support to both you and your wife.

From what I've read it's most definitely worth a call .
Thoughts are with you

Toomanysheds I am so sorry to read this aweful news & how you must be feeling right now has left me feeling numb & completely overwhelmed with shock. I no that we have very little in common apart from cars perhaps but I genuinely feel desperate for you & just wish I could do something to help. I really am sorry to read about your situation & God only knows how anyone facing the same situation must feel. Please keep fighting though & all the very best. I must stop chopping these onions.

As above really, just checking in to my previous post on here.

After a CT scan on Monday, had a meeting with my consultant on Tuesday and it's good news. I've responded well to the chemo and the remaining tumors have decreased in size. Really happy with that and have another appointment on Friday to discuss a new treatment plan going forward.

It's not a cure but if things can be kept under control and damped down, then bowel cancer can eff off, frankly. smile
