So, here I am pumped full of pain killers, after an off on my motorbike (Ok fine, it was a 125 scooter!), and I've broken my collarbone, or fractured clavicle as it's known, and I feel like an absolute cocksocket.
It's broken and not lined back up (but not punctured the skin) so I understand that surgery is the only option. (I have seen the xray and it looks very, erm, broken).
Anyway. I am 44yo and until today have never broken a bone in my body (apart from the cartilage in my nose). I once damaged my kneebone after falling off my Raleigh Chopper after the front brake locked on (I was about 12yo, so 1982, and the women who stopped to help asked me if I was ok and then offered me a cup of tea) but that's about it.
Are you indestructible, Have you never broken a bone?

I was fairly fortunate until about 22. I broke my orbital bone in 3 places and I've also broken my hand before.
I've got a funny feeling my hand maybe fractured at the moment but nowhere near as bad as before. I didn't know I broke it before when a week later I was in agony at 2 in the morning, couldn't sleep so took 120mg of codeine without really know what it was. Best night sleep ever!!!

Broke my first bone at 30. 2 Metatarsals playing football.
Looking back I have fond memories of it!
4 weeks off work playing Xbox for 9 hours a day.
Being chauffeured around, meals made and general sympathy!
The whole recovery was like learning to walk again but making huge progress each day.
I don't think I'd be greatly disappointed if it happened again one day.

Slight tangent, but for those who have broken things - do you find those bits ache in cold weather?
Yes, but mainly due to the differential expansion of the bits of steel. For the OP, I had a fractured clavicle a few years back. Although mine was a simple break I'd screwed up so many other limbs in the car crash I had (it was pretty epic) that they fixed it with a plate to get at least one arm mobile reasonably quickly.
I had that removed as soon as I could as it was really annoying - it sat on the top of the bone which meant I couldn't comfortably carry anything on my shoulder, and when I lifted heavy things with my arm the feeling of it not bending in quite the same was as the bone was quite disoncerting. Also the screws could be felt under the skin.
However, it healed the clavicle very cleanly - much better than it would have been if it was left. I think I'd do it that way again if I was unlucky enough to need it.
