Fitness Standards ?

Targets above are not a measure of fitness but of super fitness.

Reality is that the vast majority of people in the UK, especially adults, are massively unfit and do almost no exercise.

A surprise to absolutely no one I expect.

I don't think a reasonable fitness test should be dragged down because the population is so unfit.

I have given this a fair amount of thought recently. As a man of 55 yrs old I wondered what would be a realistically attainable goal in 5 years time at 60 years old barring injury or illness.

I have chiselled it down to the following:

- 10 good pull ups - dead hang to chin over the bar.
- 400M in 75 seconds

There were many other things I considered but one by one I discounted them as unnecessary. If I can achieve the above at 60 then unquestionably I will have good mobility, a reasonable strength/bodyweight ratio and decent level of cardiovascular power.
