It's still there for me, it says it's available until December 2018.

Apollons axle - fixed ends basically so doesn't spin which is a buggar on the wrists during cleans hah.
I would genuinely like to beat this record though in the future smile

Can't really get any bigger can they? Thor is basically an experiment, take the tallest guy you can find that isn't a skinny build, then put him through the program and he will come out the other end a fully fledged strongman. There are taller men (not many) but beyond his height they tend to be weaker and unable to pack serious bulk on.

I'd say started out as a skinny build? Depends how you define it.
Packed on the mass though.

Born Strong was ruddy brilliant. Eddie will be in trouble if he goes back to defend his title. Admitting that he would have health problems if he kept up the strongman lifestyle is pretty major, plus he would probably get a divorce ...

Eddie, as a slightly less huge guy, might have bigger health problems at 30 stone than Thor and Shaw, but it won't be night and day: they are all putting themselves through hell and all doing damage. I expect they are all fairly realistic about it.

Strongman, and bodybuilding, are in a real crisis right now.

People often ask, "why don't we just let athletes take all the drugs they want?" and the answer is that every sport will end up like bodybuilding and strongman.

Its not a healthy sport. Its not a sport that most people aspire to. If you watch the documentry on him, he has sleep apnea due to the weight, the 500kg deadlift nearly killed him, its not a good thing for him to be that weight.

I have the utmost respect for him, like any sportsman he takes the rules and pushes to find the limits of his body, the problem is the drugs are pushing bodies to limits they are not designed for, and it is going to end in deaths. Pro body building has Rich Piana and Dallas MCaver die recently, and the post mortems were revealed a host of problems like massively enlarged internal organs and heart thickening.

Its not a sport that has a grassroots of parents pushing and supporting their children into it due to what basically amounts to drug abuse being the pillar of the sport, and that is why the the money and BBC coverage stays away.

Most professional athletes do take all the PEDs they like.

Yep. Just different PEDs and in different amounts.

The problem with very narrow and extreme sports (powerlifting, strongman, cycling, bodybuilding) is that they encourage massive and particularly dangerous PED use.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt. It is hard not to be a sore loser sometimes.

I'd never heard of him until i saw WSM.
I think he looks like Les Dawson when he does his "trying hard" face

So what are the PH predictions for 2018 then? Could Thor be in with a shot or do we think Brian Shaw will be back on top form? Could Martins Licis find himself on the podium?

Still respect him; but the outburst over his double dips are ridiculous. Eddie would have just done a couple more and still won that event.

I agree with that - Thor was lucky to get the number counted that he did. He was all over the place compared to Eddie. The idea that he was the stronger man at that event is laughable. On any remotely fair basis, Eddie won that event and was always going to win it.

Finally got round to watching the episodes over the last few nights. Eddie looked in a group of his own, looks like he really dedicated training just to win this and glad he has achieved his dream!

Got to admit I haven't watched the past few years (used to watch it religiously every year) so not sure if he was like this most years but Thor comes across as a right spoilt brat.

He thought he had it in the bag when big Z and Shaw started dropping back then Eddie came out of nowhere and kicked him in the balls!

Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski I would say are the ones to watch.
