I have had the Huel Black version for the last 3 days for my lunch. So far so good, well I say good as the Black version does not give me heart burn like the normal version did.

It does still have a slight effect on me, it makes me feel slightly lethargic even makes me feel a bit strange for about an hour. Does anybody have any idea why I feel slightly weird after drinking it? The normal version gave me bad heartburn and made me feel really lethargic so this Black version is deff better for me but still has slight side effects.

Is it just your body's response to getting load of fuel all at once? Are you chugging it or drinking it over the course of half an hour or so? Maybe try drinking it slower and see if that helps?

I drink it over about 10 to 20 minutes, Ill just see if I get used to it over a week or so. The bonus is no more heartburn.

Yes, it might be a form of dumping syndrome, as experienced by those who have had bariatric surgery. It occurs when foods, most usually sugars, move from the stomach into the small bowel too quickly and it might especially happen with food taken in essentially liquid form.

Having just read The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung, I would be interested to know what the insulin response would be to these drinks ie. where it would come on the Insulin Index. Feeling lethargic after food is not usually a good sign (I believe)

I had a mixed white and black for breakfast this morning, and the first fully black for lunch.

I'll have a better idea next week as to any differences in feeling full, time to hungry etc.

However, black does have a slightly different, weaker taste. Not unpleasant, and certainly a little less floury. (No oats, GF, so makes sense.)

Certainly not unpleasant. Happy enough for now.

I used to use Complete Breakfast Blend from MyProtein, it's similar in terms of its full of vitamins and no sugar, and a far better alternative than cereal, but they've been out of stock for months.

I've now just ordered some Huel and I've got a variety of plant based milk at the ready, so I'll be interested to see how it goes.

I have am eating this with Oat Milk - 3 small cups of Huel, 450cc of water and 150cc of Oat Milk. It goes down much easier - less wind from either end.
For a fruity combination - 3 small cups of Huel, half a banana, 400cc of water and 100cc of Cranberry juice.

I've been having "the Black edition" every lunchtime for a week or so now.

Got to say I like the texture, and I like both flavours. I find it very filling, and I'm not getting any cravings an hour later.

It does however seem to be giving me horrendous WIND !! But I'm hoping this might settle down after a couple of weeks. If it doesn't I'll have no friends left, or colleagues will to work with me ;-)

Just looking in to these powders. I will opt for pea protein in some form I think but I'm confused as to why oats contain more protein yet aren't used, rather the recipes suggest adding oats to your other protein powder or vice versa.

I've been using Huel for over a year now. I have 2 shakes a day, replacing breakfast and lunch and eat a balanced meal in the evening. If I need a snack I have some fruit or a little Go-Ahead type bar in-between shakes.
In that time I've lost over 20Kg and maintained it now. I run (25+ miles a week) and cycle daily and have not noticed a dip in energy.

If I'm home I will blend Huel with frozen fruit/banana and some oats for a thicker tastier shake but if out or at work I'll just have with cold water, and refrigerate for a while. Its defiantly better cold.

I often read about the grainy texture, but have honestly never found this to be the case.

Flavour wise, I've used them all now. Always have Vanilla in and use Berry to blend with frozen fruit if home. Then I tend to rotate between Banana and Choc Mint. Coffee is decent, I always added the dregs from the coffee machine.

Its obviously not going to be for all. But I can honestly credit it with getting my calorie intake under control and staying that way.

So little bit of an update...

I bought Vanilla and Chocolate flavour, and have tried them with a variety of plant-based milk. To be honest, I really like them, and it's nice to know its not full of ste like cereal.

Ok, it doesn't quite keep me as full as an 800 calorie weight gain shake but it's pretty good and probably a lot healthier. So yes, 8/10 from me.

^This. I've been on the Black Edition for a week or so and the additional flatus over, ahem, the bog-standard Huel is seriously impressive, or would be if I were still a six year old boysmile.

I'm six months post a gastric operation and my digestion is still so shot to st that I can hardly touch solids and need to rely on Huel and vitamin injections/pills for most of my nutrition. The composition of the Black Edition makes it easier for me to maintain protein levels and not waste away.

I started on Huel Thursday last week as an alternative to shop bought sandwiches for lunch. Shame I didn't read this thread first and used a referral code. I wasn't mad on the first one or two, but it's surprising how quickly I got used to them and I enjoy them now.

I've had one vanilla, one chocolate and one vanilla + a teaspoonful of freeze dried coffee, which I'd say is the nicest so far. I'm only using them Monday-Friday. I have the pack of starter flavour sachets to try too.

I'm going to try a chocolate shake made with semi skimmed milk tomorrow. This is an extra 230 calories, but that's ok if I forgo my snack. If it's nice with milk I might try some other "milks" like almond or coconut.

I'm still having proper dinners and have not had any gastro problems.

I read that they are less grainy if you keep them in the fridge overnight because something (flaxseed?) absorbs the liquid better. I mix them in the flask with the grid that comes with your first order. I don't see the need to mix in a blender unless you want to add extra ingredients.

On alternative "milks", I find the oat milk more pleasant than soya.

For me, manual shaking makes for an overly grainy texture so I use the blender because it does render it considerably smoother but YMMV.

If you mix with ice in a blender, you get rid of the graininess straight away (in my experience) without having to soak overnight.

It used to fill me up all morning, I've been off it for a while but going to get back on it this week.
