I take a daily huel or the myprotein version whole fuel when at work, busy, and if I'm trying to cut some weight for a holiday I'll take it twice a day.

Decent stuff for meal replacement/weight loss.
I'm guessing its a lot more convenient than sourcing roadkill too smile

which one is better from Huel or My Fuel?

Or would it be easier to buy in the ingredients?

£1.40 a meal is not exactly breaking the bank and if I bought the ingredients I guess it will only be a few pence a meal cheaper.

A must for what? What has that got to do with Huel?

Are there any decent low(ish) carb alternatives to Huel on the market?

After 2.5 weeks of drinking Huel for lunches I have lost 5kg, which is quite significant.

I've gotten used to the taste of huel and have no problems with it. Some days I add a couple of teaspoons of decaf instant coffee to it and it tastes good. Some days I add banana Nesquik powder to it.

I hate breakfast, but I manage to eat 1 or 2 slices of toast each morning with Marmite on them.

Huel replaces my weekday lunches.

Normal dinner in the evenings.

The weight loss has obviously been due to the fact that my lunches were clearly unhealthy and calorie laden.

Huel gives me zero side effects and makes me quite full for the rest of the day, to the extent that I'm having smaller evening meals as I'm not ravenous.

So, what can I say. I feel better and it's working for me.

Do you buy the u/u and then flavour with nesquik/coffee?
I only have the 'new and improved' vanilla at the moment, but I find the flavour very mild so it easily goes with coffee, banana etc.

You just end up with slightly vanilla coffee, slightly vanilla banana etc which suits me fine.

I put the coffee/nesquik in with the Huel, shake it up, and leave it in the fridge all morning until lunch.

I find it helps the flavours soak into the drink, and also it always tastes better cold.

I have bought some My Protein Whole Fuel so can offer a comparison of the two. Whole Fuel is finer & smoother & I suspect would make a better drink if you use a shaker; as I use a blender it's not such an issue for me. I think the bigger difference is that My Fuel is considerably sweeter & personally it's not something I particularly like.

You'll have to compare the ingredients to make your own mind up about the relative nutritional benefits of each.

Luke.

After having problems with 3 scoops at lunch with heartburn and fatigue I am going to try 2 scoops for breakfast and 2 for lunch. I dont normally eat breakfast but i am hoping having less per portion might help, plus I am trying to get through the batch so I can try the unflavored version.

I get heartburn on occasion from pastry and biscuits so something in Huel must contain the same ingredient. Hopefully with the unflavored version mixed in a blender with fruit it will reduce the heartburn. Ill give 1 more batch a go as it really is easy to drink and makes me feel full.

Do people actually think this tastes good?

Tried the vanilla v2 & berry. Both smelt nice but taste quite rank, leaving a pretty disgusting aftertaste. Perhaps it is just an acquired taste & I need to perservere...?

Making it with the recommended 3 scoops and struggling to finish more than half the bottle. Have been advised to put some frozen berries in and blend it but that defeats purpose to to me. Also tried banana flavouring with the berry powder yesterday and that didn't improve things.

I don't think anyone would say it tastes like nectar but I manage to get an acceptable taste using the vanilla v2 & the banana flavouring that Huel sell. I didn't like the berry flavoured Huel.

I use 100g of Huel in 400ml of water & 2 ice cubes, blitzed in a blender. Being cold does help the taste.

If you don't like it you don't like it. I, for example, physically gag at the taste of a courgette, whereas some people will gobble them down. In a manner of speaking.

What I will say is that the "flavour booster" things are pretty grim and taste horribly artificial. If you want it to taste of banana, might I suggest you put an actual banana in it?

Why do you think that frozen berries defeats the object? If you're calorie counting then you can be pretty precise about your portions so you know how much extra you are adding to the count from the Huel. Personally I find that vanilla + frozen berries is a genuinely enjoyable smoothie which I'd happily pay for in a cafe.

Thanks, I will try that. Defeats the object in that Huel is meant to have all the necessary ingredients and adding more is (to me) like making a portion bigger than it needs to be.

Yeah, fair point I suppose. I think of it a bit like porridge. Yes, technically you *can* eat it with just oats and water, but it's a lot nicer with a spoonful of jam in it!

Which flavour is it? If it's the unflavoured/unsweetened one then i likened it to trying to drink pancake batter or yorkshire pudding mix. I use the vanilla or coffee flavour mixed with chocolate whey protein
Bit late checking this, sorry! It was vanilla flavour. It was a bugger to mix up, nothing short of a blender would do the job despite the instructions stating it can be shaken.

Weirdly the first sip wasn't too bad but each subsequent taste got worse until I had to chuck around 3/4 of a glass of it down the sink and I am really not a fussy person at all. I guess it is a Marmite style thing, love it or hate it (love Marmite though!).

Of course not.

My previous 'normal' lunches were things like: a Subway Steak and cheese, McDonald's Big Mac, M&S Coronation chicken sandwich, fish & chips. lasagne, etc

Compared to anything like those, Huel is bland, depressing, and wholly unsatisfying.

I don't find it awful in any way, just extremely bland.

Adding things like coffee and banana flavouring helps a lot.

But I understand that it isn't supposed to be delicious. It's supposed to be a healthy and nutritious 'meal' in a shaker for £1.40 per serving.

It's there to do a job, and it does that job well IMO, but I wouldn't expect to meet anyone who drank it for fun... biggrin
