Thats the part I’m worried about! As an example I have a bowl of porridge most mornings with a large bag costing me £2 and lasts a month or so! The “Keto” breakfast will cost me more with the “Keto” porridge replacement being a mixture of chai, seeds etc which costs more again. I know I add milk/yogurt to the porridge but that’s £2 max a week.
Have a boiled egg. Max £2 a week.

Or I.F. (skip breakfast)

Stop being a pussy hehe. Why would you eat porridge when you can eat near infinite amounts of bacon, sausages, eggs, cheeses, creams etc? lick If you're worried about money then a keto diet isn't for you as everything is expensive compared to 'normal' food, however once your body adjusts you don't actually eat that much as the protein content keeps you from feeling hungry.

I actually find it relatively cheap! Fatty cuts of meat are usually cheaper than the lean alternative. Sausage, bacon, dairy and eggs are cheap. Cheese can be cheap if you don’t buy the specialist stuff.

I suppose I do spend quite a lot on smoked salmon, avocados, fresh berries and specialist cheeses but I’d be buying these anyway.

Maybe it’s just been an easy transition for me as I’ve always eaten the same food - I’ve just dropped the sugar and carbs and lowered the protein.

After 15 weeks with no cheating I ruined it all last night with three mince pies, half a bottle of mulled wine and a curry! 1.5kg gained overnight! 😄 I assume it’s just the stored carbs retaining some water and probably actually gives an indication of my ‘real’ weight. Still pink on the Ketostix, though so who knows!

I’ll give it a try then and see how I get on. My understanding is that once I’ve built up certain supplies It should work out the same price as I’m not buying so much fruit/processed stuff. On the weekends I go home to the wife and son so see some issues there. She loves her carbs and does they typical woman thing of not eating all morning then carving carbs all evening. She’s also allergic to dairy.

Been looking online for meat suppliers and nuts are loads cheaper in bulk compared to H&B, Tesco etc. Have a decent butcher who I have a bit of banter and usually freebies thrown in. Bought a whole salmon for £18 and now have 20 salmon fillets in the fridge/freezer ready to go.

I am on a carnivore diet, heard a podcast by @sbakermd that inspired me to start on it. He also rows, and so I went out and bought Concept 2 which I am loving with free weights/5x5 on top.

It is cheaper, and far easier than a "normal diet" and I feel awsome, no keto flu at all.

Does anyone have a good Keto meal plan, I'm totally clueless when it comes to diet and food types. I know I could google it, but I always find advice from someone who has been there and done it is much better than a random google search.
Two years of bed-surgery-limited exercise is really taking it's toll on my waistline, never mind strength and fitness.

There's thousands online. Do a search. No point asking other people as everyone has different tastes/likes/dislikes.

When I first started doing Keto I found some graphics that basically had good Keto foods in green and bad ones in yellow and red - a traffic light type system basically.

That was really helpful and for the first couple of weeks I kept my diet really simple - fatty meat, eggs, cheese, cream, spinach, broccoli, avocado and nuts. Then as I learned about the diet over time I started to add bits and pieces to make it more ‘normal’. I really struggled initially to keep the protein below 100g a day but it made no difference at all to the weight loss so I don’t get hung up on it.

Anyway, you’ll find loads of stuff online but for me a normal day would look like:

Breakfast
Two double espressos with double cream
Two fried eggs
Half an avocado
60g smoked salmon
Handful of raspberries or blueberries

Snack
Coffee with double cream or coconut oil

Lunch
Chopped salad made with lettuce, crumbled blue cheese, half a boiled egg, half an avocado, small tomato, cucumber, crumbled bacon, small amount of red onion. Homemade balsamic and olive oil dressing.

Snack
Pecans / macadamias

Dinner
Small grilled ribeye steak with 30g Roquefort cheese
Spinach and broccoli smothered in butter

Sometimes I’ll just have a massive bowl of raspberries and blueberries with whipped double cream for breakfast. Sometimes I’ll just eat 5oz of cheese with salami for lunch! biggrin Sometimes for dinner I’ll have Butter Chicken from the Indian takeaways and have it with cauliflower rice or Saag Gobi. There are tons of options and you don’t have to be mega strict for it to work.

I love my food and I genuinely don’t feel shortchanged by dropping the carbs. In fact I’m currently lying on the sofa after two days binging on Christmas carbs and I feel like utter crap - bloated, farting and uncomfortable. I can’t believe I used to put up with feeling like this, although I suppose I didn’t know any different. Got another day of it tomorrow and can’t wait to get back on the Keto stuff on the 27th!

The main thing I’ve found is keeping an eye on macronutrients.

If doing keto I follow a ratio of 80:15:5 for fat: protein:carb calories.

For 2000 calories this roughly equates to 175g:90g:20g per day.

It’s easy to get these macros with full fat dairy. I am dairy free and follow a paleo way of eating so can’t recommend any specific plan. I achieve it by having a dairy free version of bulletproof coffee every morning and then basically living off eggs, fatty meat and green veg/salad. I find keeping to the protein limit harder than staying low carb, but then I find I need keep protein in check if I want to lose. Lots of people find the protein aspect easier.

Thanks to the two posters above, you’ve been more than helpful.

I’m not really a big drinker, I only drink brandy and licquers, I assume these are out?

Starting in the morning, sick of feeling like a bloated walrus with wind.

Alcohol is basically "out"; even one drink will bounce you out of ketosis until tomorrow.

That’s not strictly true as I understand it. A ‘neat’ spirit like brandy or gin is ok and won’t kick you out of Ketosis, even if you have half a bottle. However, the body will apparently burn the energy in the alcohol in priority to energy from fat and as such will simply slow down the fat burn and weight loss for a period of time. You’ll still be in Ketosis but you’ll have wasted time on empty calories. Liqueurs will kick you out due to the sugar content but on the whole the Keto diet is classed as being quite alcohol friendly, as long as you count the carbs (about 4g per glass of wine).

I’m not going to lie, stopping (or minimising) drinking alcohol has probably been as much of a factor in losing so much weight as the diet. I have the occasional glass of wine and have had maybe three full-on sessions on gin and soda in the last four months but that’s about it.

You can drink on the Keto diet but it’s inevitable that it will slow down the results.

Hmmm. If your body switches from burning fat to burning alcohol, that's got to be a transition and back of some kind.

Anyways, this is on the internet so it must be true:

On the plus side, Tequila!!!

It’s not an issue I’m not much of a drinker, I may have a small drink on NYE, but that’s it.

Day 1 it is then, no point waiting on January 1st.

I lost most of the weight while having a drink most of the time, like said most spirits have no carbs, liqueurs are out though.

When I did it, I ate heaps of protein and quite a bit of weight (2 stone) quite easily. Didn't realise you were supposed to limit protein tbh but I felt OK.

Plan on doing it again through January along with no alcohol. I'll keep the diet going as I find carbs like bread, pasta, and rice make me feel sick if I eat more than a very small amount.

End of day 2 and I feel like crap. Terrible headache and very irritable. I've been here before and know it will pass, but it's still not nice. Still planning on having a drink on NYE but I will be sticking to spirits.

How long do people stick to this before having carbs to reset? I'm thinking 2 weeks.

What have you had to eat and drink since you started?

Have you been drinking sugar free drinks perhaps?

Only drinking water and plenty of it.

Bacon and eggs both mornings, boiled/poached.
Lunch yesterday was lamb and greens, today was pork chops, greens and cauliflower cheese. Luckily I love sprouts.
Dinner both evening was ham and cheese omelette.
Snacking on leftover ham.

Hmm. You should be feeling pretty tip-top after consuming that fine lot. I mentioned the sugar-free drinks as they really trigger nasty headaches with me so have to steer clear of them, but as you haven't had any... no idea.

I love sprouts too, but holy crap they give me horrendous gut rot and unwanted pebbledashing abilities.

I've not had anything to eat yet today as I didn't get up til lunchtime but I'm just about to tuck into a nice plate of grated Pilgrims Choice extra mature, 2 tins of tuna in sunflower oil (complete with the oil), half a chopped red onion and a lashing of Hellmans, all mixed together and topped off with ground black pepper from my mill. Pretty basic but very lick.
