Absolutely I feel sick if I eat too much fat but some people get reckless eating 15 eggs and 1/2 pound of bacon thinking if there are no carbs you can eat as much as you like.
My experience of Keto/Paleo/IF has been that "as much as you like" quickly becomes a sensible quantity, losing excess weight until a natural plateau is reached. More kcals per day and a lower stable weight on zero carb/strict carnivore, strangely.

It's not like eating Dark Chocolate Hobnobs.

Freaking love it biggrin

Makes everything taste sensational and it’s so energy dense that I’m “full” long before I’m full. Scrambled eggs cooked in a dollop of duck fat fills me up while everyone else around me is cramming their bulging stomach to bursting point and still finds room for pudding biggrin

Anyone else here eating ‘keto’ but drinking beer and having cheat days (cake!)? Clearly there’s little chance of actually being in Ketosis but after hitting my target weight to give a BMI of 25 in April (after 8 months strictly following Keto) I thought I’d relax a little and try to include a few of the things that I really missed - beer, fish and chips, breakfast pastries, pizza, a bit of cake etc...

Six months on and I’d gained the grand total of 1kg but I think I’ve subconsciously become better at regulating food intake and still haven’t eaten pasta or rice as I’ve completely gone off them.

So, has anyone else found there’s a happy medium between full-on Keto and still enjoying the good (bad) things in life?

I’ve actually been back on full Keto for the last two weeks and have lost 4.5kg in that time. I forgot how effective it is when you stick to it rigidly! Breakfast yesterday was three Wagyu sirloin steaks so I’ve not exactly been starving myself!

I'm at my target weight now (down 18kg), feels like a natural weight to be honest and i think i'm still in keto at around 30-50g carbs a day, though i'm not counting. I have a few beers now and again but never cake, just doesn't appeal! I'm not getting any "transition" symptoms and still feel great so i'm happy.

No bread, pasta, tatties, rice
Lots and lots of green veg
Meat/eggs/cheese/butter/coconut oil oh yes

In terms of 'target weight', I'm 45 in a couple of weeks. At my heaviest around 5 years ago, I was 14 1/2 stone / 92kg and currently weigh 11 1/2 Stone / 73kg. That puts me at the top end of BMI for my age and height(which I know is flawed anyway), but it seems to have stalled there as I've been this weight for over a year now.

Is it realistic to want or hope for more weight loss?

Suppose the nearest to some sort of medium if you wanted to be in ketosis most of the time would be cyclical ketosis. IME this is best done not on a cheat a week basis. I did the old eat what you want on Sundays and just felt st until Wednesday. Expanding it to once every two weeks was marginally better, I don't know if I went back into ketosis quicker for sure, however symptomatically I felt like I was by Monday evening. Yet it got to the point after a couple of months where I was committing carbocide for social reasons, as willpower, craving and novelty-wise I felt fine just cracking on with out and out keto.

At the moment I'm eating all macros under intermittent fasting (16/8) and maintaining my losses which was about a stone and a half under keto.

I'm 'assuming' so, based on my intake, but haven't done any definitive tests.

Maybe I should get some strips and get a better idea

No cheating here and no desire to cheat. For me that desire would probably defeat the point of it - effortless good health without any sense of deprivation.

Kenny, I couldn't help but notice your post in the cannabis thread. THC lowers blood glucose, AFAIK it has to do this in order to pass the blood-brain barrier or at least to do its stuff generally. That alongside keto, if you went back onto a 'normal' diet, you'd probably get carb flu. hehe

Ah, yes, I forgot about that. I never really researched it when I was following Keto intensively as I figured it would jeopardise results. I suspect I’ve inadvertently been carb cycling this past six months - days with very little carb intake then a day when I’ll just go nuts with the cake and beer! More googling required but I suspect it’ll be more geared around healthy carbs and sports performance rather than a binge on refined carbs.

Back when there was a goal I found it very easy to overcome any desires for beer or carbs - especially when I was seeing consistent losses. Now, without any particular goal, the temptation to just enjoy nice things if I fancy them frequently wins through.

I’m still reluctant to refer to Keto as ‘effortless good health’ though. ‘Effortless weight control’ I’d agree with, but I’m still undecided on the health benefits as a whole, which is why I suppose I’m not bothered about being 100% Keto and hence the original question.

I think along the lines of occasional carb binges , I think (Without any scientific evidence whatsoever) that you should keep the body guessing, if I am on holiday etc I worry much less about carbs, calories and additional weight gain confident than on returning I can restrict carbs and calories and lose it all again. Whilst in maintenance mode having the occasional beer or carby meal at weekends does me no harm , something along a 5:2 works for me . NEVER eating or drinking carbs for me is not practical nor sustainable but I don't have diabetes or other health issues

Spent a month in the US during the summer and put on 20 lbs, took around 2 weeks to drop back down to pre holiday weight

In the past I have had occasional treat days with old favourites like lasagne or pasta carbonara, only to feel pretty poor afterwards.

I do still compromise on holidays, eating in Five Guys or Pizza Express, though not beer. Last vacation I put on about at kilo a week and felt like I was permanently in need of a poo!

So I don't really feel I am missing out on many good bad things these days.

Rolling my eyes in my head earlier in awe of how sensational my dinner tasted, it occurred to me that most people have probably forgotten, or in fact are too young to have ever known, just how unbelievable everything tastes when cooked in lashings of saturated animal fats lick

Real whole foods, cooked in real fats. Thank you diabetes. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see the light laugh

Personally I have no desire to replace carbs with similar tasting foods. My style was a clean break and complete cessation of anything even resembling carbohydrate, but it’s cool that stuff like this is out there for those that want it smile

Oh God - that gave me cancer just reading it.

On the plus side - eating Keto for 6 months or so set me up well for an unintended Fast.
I developed the most horrific laryngitis 6 days ago, and have been unable to eat and only sip water.
I only got hungry yesterday, and started to eat this morning.
Its been fine, and I've shed another 3kg. Raring to go again now the antibiotics have made it possible to swallow.
1 Black pudding, 1 fried egg cooked in butter and mushrooms with parmesan cheese - lets rock and roll.
