It's great advice if you are Kellogg's, because with eggs being so full of Evil Cholesterol (TM), cereals in one form or another are what people usually eat for breakfast.

I wonder who pays all those "health experts"...

I do Int. fasting every day apart from Sunday (breakfast with otherhalf on Sundays.....eggs and meat a plenty!) so never eat before midday, often later. My gentle 5km run in the morning with the dog is a breeze and just aren’t hungry till it’s gone “lunch time”

THe great thing about IF is it's versitility. If you eat earlier on a SUnday, which I also do, then you can have your last meal earlier.
A Joe Rogan/Rhonda PAtrick podcast did mention that you can reap the mitochondrial benefits of IF 5/7 days.

First day on the Keto today.

Bacon and scrambled egg for breakast. Smoked Salmon & cheese for lunch. Carrot batons to tie me over.

God knows what to do for dinner. I've got sugar free jelly in my arsenal but am aware it's nutritious as cardboard - fills you up though.

Ordered a decent food based multi vitamin this morning.

Am 14st and 5ft 5 so carrying a bit of a balcony. I'm quite fussy so ideas for simple meals would be great; I'll trawl through the 72 pages in the meantime. Want to get down to 11st'ish.

Sugar-free jelly is rancid. I bought some once and had it with double cream but the jelly has not flavour whatsoever.

I am back on keto today for about 3 weeks, whilst I get rid of a parasitic gut infection.

I find keto quite beneficial for a while, but I have to cycle it with a carb-based diet in order not to look like a corpse.

Although I wasn't following the diet strictly, I had lost some weight leading up to Christmas but well and truly fell off the wagon from the 21st December on wards with beer, Christmas do's, chocolate and generally having fun. Long story short, I have gained 4kg which isn't very good really (or could be good considering I did no exercise and ate/drank anything and everything - I don't know).

Back to it today.

I'm back on it today too. I lost 3 stone last year when combined with running 50-80km a month but then massively fell in to bad habits from the end of November. I'll take all my measurements tonight and start afresh with the goal being decent shape ready for summer holidays.

For dinner, I usually have some form of chicken fillet with broccoli or cauliflower rice, with a cream/cheese-based sauce that's easy to knock up and mix in with the 'rice'

I'm 42 and have been trying to get 'in shape' for years. Keto (or even just low-carb) is the only thing that has worked for me and it's so simple when you get in to it. It just becomes a way of life. The mental benefits are huge for me too.

Good luck.

Wow! Well this thread has been an education. I've just finished reading it from start to finish. Fantastic.

I have always struggled with my weight. I lost a lot of it when I left my first wife 6 years ago, just by being a single man, eating big lunches at work and then never really being hungry in the evening, plus not having anything but alcohol in the fridge at home. laugh

I remarried in 2017 to a loving, affectionate feeder (although she disputes that she is) and I have piled it on. So I am going to be doing Keto for weight loss reasons with the huge added benefit of a healthier lifestyle! I am excited to feel more comfortable in my clothes, and in myself, and also to have stability in my energy levels. Seeing everyones weight loss on here, it seems too good to be true.

I work very long hours in the city and struggle to find the time to do any concentrated exercise but I do take the stairs over escalators etc.

I have known people who have been successful on Atkins, but I don't really see that as a longterm answer to weight loss and then I would fear putting all the weight back on when I finish, so Keto seems the be the answer and from looking at all the foods you can eat, I wont have any problem sticking to it!

I have downloaded the My Fitness App and have been tracking but I am struggling with the understanding of too much protein reducing the impact on the weight loss.

I think Kenny Powers might have mentioned it once or twice hehe during the thread about reducing the amount of protein, but then I also found this which says that more protein isn't an issue?

https://perfectketo.com/how-too-much-protein-is-ba...

Whilst I think I am mildly intelligent, and never having been on a diet like this before its scrambled my brains a bit, but I am really hoping that works.

35yrs 17st and wanting to lose between 3-4st.

Wish me luck!

Ah they always deny it. They make us fat so that no one will steal us away from them.

I haven’t checked but I always thought carrots were a no-no! Below ground veg, sweet etc....

For your meals I tend to mix and match from a few side dishes and ‘mains’:

-Ribeye steak with Roquefort cheese or cream pepper sauce
-Skin-on chicken breast with bacon and cheese
-Smoked haddock or cod mornay
-Brandy cream mushrooms
-Salmon fillet with homemade tartare
-Burgers in lettuce ‘bun’

Then add a side or two:

-Buttered spinach
-Creamed spinach - search for recipes but the South Africans do a good one with nutmeg!
-Cauliflower cheese
-Green beans
-Aubergine bake (just google a cheesy one)
-Avocado, feta, cucumber salad with olive oil
-Garden salad with olive oil

If in doubt just add cheese! biggrin

All the above require no skill and will keep you going while you find some more adventurous recipes.

Yes. Pretty much all below ground veggies are bad for you if you're on a keto diet. Rule of thumb is over ground veggie = ok (to varying extents), below ground = avoid.

I'm quite a fan of onions, particularly red ones, but I have to strictly moderate my consumption as a medium size one is about 8g of carbs. Similar for peppers which I enjoy, but luckily green peppers are the lowest in carbs out of the different colours and green happen to be the ones I like. I quite often make a scrumptious tuna crunch mix with grated cheese, diced red onion and green pepper with Hellmans full fat mayo then seasoned with ground black and white pepper. Really filling for me and usually sees me through the rest of the day if I have it at lunchtime.

I've told her to slap the carb out of my hand if she sees me being naughty. But I dont really have a sweet tooth, so I think I am going to be just fine on this diet! Perhaps I will become the feeder!! laugh

Did similar on keto, onions for use only sparingly in salads and certain dishes where you can get away with using a whole onion across at least two portions.

Knocking up a lazy garlic puree with extra salt is a tasty sodium giver to add to meals which can work if you don't go crazy. A clove is around 3g carbs IIRC.

Carby herbs and spices aren't an issue if you're just using seasoning amounts, IME larger amounts for marinades are okay after a few weeks of being 'fat adapted'.

Do you get bloated and/or gassy?

Might be a fructan intolerance.

Apparently roasting garlic well before eating can help.

if something in your guy doesn't like something, you can get that tested now, and a lot of people 'self-heal' with a diet click.

It's nothing special really and certainly extremely basic compared with Crumpet's chef-like meals and recipes he posts here! I haven't even heard of half of the ingredients he lists! laugh

The cheese is whatever is on offer at the supermarket but I avoid supermarket own brand cheese as the flavour and texture is lacking imo. Usually it's a toss up between Cathedral City mature or Pilgrims Choice mature and then I buy Sainsburys 4 pack of tuna chucks in sunflower oil by the bucketload. I pour the entire contents of the tin in, including the oil as it really softens it up and gives it some extra taste. I also tried the tuna in olive oil tins but I'm not a fan of olive oil taste and it doesn't 'work' as well imo. I don't like brine at all so never tried those ones but you may prefer it.

I recommend only preparing it when you're ready to eat it. Preparing it hours in advance to have later in the day doesn't work as it starts to hard and congealed even if you keep it covered in the fridge.
