Other random side effects of Keto I've read about are less allergies and Tanning more easily and maintaining that tan.

Interesting stuff.

I've been mulling giving it a go for month to see if it works with me well. Would miss dairy the most I think.

Yeah, there is recognized medical treatment for epilepsy and diabetes available with keto. Lots of reports of allergies and auto-immune diseases clearing up when the vegetables are removed completely, see e.g. http://meatheals.com/ An interesting area for research, but I don't think the medical industry is interested unless it leads to treatment in pill form. They are trying to develop pills that mimic keto and pills that mimic fasting!

I've heard the sun tolerance thing too. I think seed oils in our diet is plausible. Certainly our ancestors weren't slip, slap, slopping when they worked in the fields in all weathers.

My asthma (that would have put me in hospital after running 2 mins last year) has vanished. I ran a 45m 10k the other day (not bad for 220lbs) and felt good with zero meds.

Keto isn’t exclusive to consuming meat and dairy. I eat neither and am permanently in keto presently. Plus my hay fever this year has been much improved. Meaning perhaps it’s the keto rather than all the vegetables I am eating which this the reason behind allergies improving?

Just found this thread and thought I’d share my experience. Not Keto but I’ve been low carb for the last few months in an effort to lose the weight I put on last year. I’m 49, 5’ 11”, normally 12st dead but peaked at 13st 7lb. I’m now back down to 12st 2lb so nearly there. I don’t monitor calories, macros or anything else, just cut out bread, pasta, breakfast cereal, rice, cakes, crisps etc… Been eating loads of meat, eggs, full-fat dairy, EVOO, nuts, seeds, veg, salad, berries, and cheese. Been drinking about 3L water a day plus green or black tea instead of coffee.

Apart from losing weight I’ve noticed loads of other changes. I’m not hungry all the time and craving sugary snacks. My energy is steady throughout the day with no more post-lunch slumps or napping on the couch after dinner. I’m sleeping longer and deeper than I have for ages, I even dream occasionally. My stomach is flatter than it’s been since my twenties. I hadn’t realised how gassy and bloated I was a lot of the time. I hardly ever fart now, and when I do, it barely smells (sorry if TMI). I’ve suffered terrible brain fog for many years which I’d put down to the testosterone replacement therapy I need, but my mind is definitely getting sharper and my memory is improving.

In short, I’m feeling better than I have for years. Might lighten up and take the odd slice of wholemeal toast or bowl of porridge but I have no plans to going back to eating loads of carbs.

Certainly possible.
I was 100% plant based for 14 months though not consciously keto, and felt great for the first six months or so. I just wasn't able to maintain it after a year or so though - I was forever hungry, my skin was dry, I was 'soft' and found it difficult to maintain concentration for long periods. Many seem to be able to continue for extended periods, but not for me. Perhaps if I'd gone full keto I may've done better - but getting enough fat while excluding industrial seed oils is pretty difficult without animal fats.

I know you can be veggie keto. I've not heard of a plausible mechanism for allergies and auto immune diseases apart from veg or cereals to leaky gut to bloodstream.

I'd assumed that (for me) it may be linked to sugar? Reduced inflammation must help with asthma/hayfever which involves plenty of inflammation of various bits of the body????

Could be. Certainly I think we are only just starting to admit how bad sugar is for our health, though some clearly knew it long ago.

The research I found was only in mice, where they induced ketosis through fasting. The upshot was that while in ketosis, their bodies suppressed the production of histamine when they encountered their allergens. So the allergy was still present, but the symptoms just didn't appear to the same extent.

I seem to have lost the bookmark in my browser tho :/

I said a while back i would try Keto for about 6 weeks and I did and I had good results.

I also said I would have to stop for a holiday and I did stop around 5 weeks ago and weight is slwoly going back up. I have been on an absolute carb blow out the last two days - literally piza and probably 10 slices of toast, 6 packs of crisps, strawberries, jaffa cakes.

I tested my ketone levels and its at 0.3. I would have thought it would be at 0... ?

Anyway back onto keto tomorrow. This time I am going to combine with exercise.

Has anyone tested the difference i nresults (i.e speed) with keto with and without exercise?

I've been eating these noodles: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Better-Than-Noodles-Organ... recently and they have a good texture if boiled for a little longer than they suggest.

Add them to a relatively healthy stir-fry and no carbs.

The one with people dropping like flies if they don't eat before 11am and then saying the ones in the wrong are the ones on fad diets?

Not enough popcorn in the world to tempt me back in there. And MAN I love popcorn!
