Zero carb/carnivore is working for me, and I suspect most others.
I think ZC/carnivore is often a natural progression for many who find success with keto/paleo and want to step it up to the next level. It's where I have ended up. I eat all animal produce. No plants. Nose-to-tail as much as possible, and supplement with grass-fed bovine collagen. Fatty meats of all types, organs, fish, eggs by the dozen. Never felt better in all my life, and my biomarkers are all right on the money.

Whatever works for the individual, of course.

So I've been gradually reducing my carbs over the past couple of weeks, and I've lost 10lbs since 4th January, great progress.

Last night i cut the ties with the carbs and had rib eye steak, roasted broccoli and cauliflower, coconut oil and butter.

I woke up this morning with loads of energy and feel great, had a "nano breakfast" of coffee. weight my self and my weight loss has plateaued since Saturday, so hoping going full Keto will kick the weight loss off again.

Really can't believe how good I feel this morning!

Nail on the head - EVERY elite sports person does what they do to win. Not for their health, or fun, or longevity.....to win.

Some of what they do will HAPPEN to be healthy, but that's a side effect. You might as well fuel your car based on what NASA pump into the shuttle.

I've been LCHF for about 2 years now, and I've been feeling great.

However, I threw caution to the wind during lockdown yesterday, I ate two pasties and half a pot of rocky road chocolate ste.
I slept all afternoon, and feel shocking today.

What's the quickest best way to fix this? I've not eaten today so far. Never touching that stuff again frown

Been there. I used to think I missed pasta Carbonara. No longer.

You can try fasting, but personally I think that's more atonement than effective. Just time.

Just made a butter coffee, will make some egg muffins with lots of fatty goodness shortly.
This actually feels like an all day beer session hangover.

I have the same wobble now and then too, and end up having a burger out with chips etc, and it’s never worth how rough I feel the next day, but it does pass quickly

I’ve been doing keto, most likely slipped into just low carb- certainly under 50g a day since September last year and I’ve lost from my heaviest of 13 stone to about 10.7 now, It’s also taken me from a size 34 waist down to a 30.

It’s now at the point where it’s become a easy part of life and I don’t even think carbz.

I’ve made a spaghetti carbonara with swede noodles and if you bake them then stir them in the sauce it resembles spaghetti quite closely.

Im back on keto... I think

I've done it before and it worked for me, the only problem is I just couldn't past the 2nd week. Doing keto and sticking to a workout regime was BRUTAL!

The only reason I stuck to it that long was that I was in a good frame of mind / healthy living. I would do fasted steady-state cardio in the mornings then a pathetic attempt at a heavy intensity lifting session evenings.

I just don't get how anyone can do it long term. I think I was also fully in the keto zone after 12 days - once I got to 7+mmo/L blood test keto strip

I did this 3 times in a period of 3months and lost 15kg. st happened. I have now put on about 10 back.

I find during this lockdown I'm just not able to stick to a balanced diet so hoping keto will kick start me back into a good routine.

rofl You didn't "stick to it" much at all! You won't have switched over in 12 days - it's more like a month and you continue to get better at fat fueling for a long while after.

But, yes, routine is difficult when stuck indoors. It's easy to eat out of boredom, and most snacks are empty carbs.

Good luck Try harder. wink

The merits of Keto have been discussed and length so this isn't aimed to be Keto is good/bad.

With any restrictive diet you need an exit strategy or the weight will go back on. In theory (I can't remember the exact numbers) If you're eating 1g of carbs you're carrying around another 3/4g of water so a good chunk of that weight you're putting on is water weight. Getting 'back on Keto' may see some good results with lost water weight and fat loss due to consuming fewer calories than you need.

Keto eliminates lots of foods so it's fairly easy to follow initially and excludes lots of junk but long term it's a life style and choice and a lot of people don't have the situation to follow it forever.

Doesn't sound like it's for you tbh-it's not for me either BTW.

Day 3 and woke up feeling the first symptoms of the flu. I think it's easy to get carried away and do "bad keto" and miss out on essential vitamins your body needs.

Did loads of exercise yesterday and now no sign of recovery

On the positive side having a Swiss mother I very much enjoy eating the cream, cheese and meat dishes etc - I'm trying this time to keep eating more greens and taking a Multivitamin or an electrolyte tablet

Just made a Keto Chicken Kiev with almond flour and flax seeds - some real delicious food on this diet

Keto flu is a bugger but things do get better. I've been on Keto since the middle of Jan and lost 4 stone. Feel great and really loving the challenge of cooking keto food. Never used the BBQ so much....lol

I am having to give this a go as a result of lockdown. I have previously been on Keto and done well, that said I find it easier to stick to during winter. Meals have turned into the highlight of weekends and I am boozing more.

Good luck all.

Hello, I've been doing a lot of reading/viewing lately into the whole fats are bad for you eat healthy industry. The whole story of it is just so alarming, depressing and outrageous. Without going into it here, I'm just looking around and seeing how well understood it is by people. I've popped in here to see the crack. Over 100 pages on this one, I've hardly read any posts at all really but there's a lot of discussion along the right lines rather than the standard health recommendation lunacy.

Is this thread mainly about which exact diet you're all on and focusing on wieght loss and training?

I've finally realised (at the age of 54) that what I've always intuitively believed about animal foods and fat and carbs actually turns out to be correct, in spite of worldwide advice to cut out fat and eat carbs instead. We're making changes to our family's diet, moving towards animal fats, reducing vegetable oils and reducing all digestible carbs to some degree. What I see here are maybe what I would term diets towards one extreme or the other. I don't mean to offend anyone but I don't see our move to a better way of eating needs to invoke the word dieting.

I suppose my question really is are you all basing your dieting on an understanding of how western world dietary advice is almost entirely wrong? Or is the discussion about what "diet" works for you? As I said, I've not delved into this thread properly.

I was sold on this diet when they said keto forces your body to burn fat instead of the glucose you eat via carbs - this just made sense to me for the most effective weight loss regime.

Then I discovered the meals are delicious and suit me, oh and drinking is fun also, I feel drunk just after a few - we all need a cheat day right?

What I can't get over is I feel like my body just never recovers from exercise and my legs feel exhausted 24/7. It's this general exhaustion I think which leads me to break the keto routine

Started with Keto, the wee strips showed I was in keto quite quickly so I continued and lost fat. Problem is, I ran out of gas on my heavy days in the gym, so I carb cycled, that worked out better for me.

Since lockdown and no gym, I went back to full keto, but less fat, maybe a bit more protein so probably subject to glucogenisis, either way, I've lost loads, maybe a bit too much and a bit of muscle too. Sure I'll get it back when the gym opens up.

The thing is, since cutting down, I can't believe just how little I can live on, I'm barely ever hungry these days and I really don't eat much. Cheese omlette in the morning, bit of lunch, at night I'm not hungry.

When I think about the amount of food I consumed in the past, it's no wonder I added weight.

I only poo every few days too. Carb restriction feels very easy now.

I'm getting back on it. My Mrs has tipped over from pre diabetic to being in type 2 territory. Also could do with shifting some weight, I feel horrendously bloated.

If anyone has any good recipes they could reccomend, meal ideas, snack/dessert recipes etc please do post them up if you can, I'll be most grateful.

Few ideas to get going on DietDoctor: https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/recipes Think they charge for full access but enough to view for free.

Are you both meat eaters?
