I would have to disagree about cheese! Slice up half a block and eat it, then tell me you don't feel full !
Half a block? Either I'm weird or you aren't trying. If I'm going to eat a couple thousand calories I would rather get the griddle pan out.
Griddle pan? Sure thing, but that's effort and stuff. Slicing a block of cheese and squeezing out some Hellmanns takes 60 seconds.
BBQ'd / Grilled chicken
then (while chicken is grilling); fried with a massive knob of butter or two - medium onion, garlic paste (cheating I know), whole punnet of mushrooms, sliced. Only had dried chives but would liked to have wazzed some tarragon in there, never mind.
then, cider vinegar for some zing, reduced down, pot of double cream, reduced down some with the chicken thrown in.
fking lush and I hope this was / is keto enough for a first attempt at something I'd never consider eating when I was on a supposed healthy diet!
German peppered salami and philadelpha for pudding.
Am I doing this right?
Only thing missing were the chips or rice or pasta
That is going to take some getting used to.

It sounds like it.
Focus on flavour and enjoying the food. You quickly don't miss the stodge. One day you'll have a "treat" stodgy meal and it will make you feel ill. Then you realize that it probably always did that but you couldn't tell.
That sounds a bit like giving up the "two" sugars in the tea, which I did about twenty ago. A first it was tricky but now even if there are only a few grains of sugar in it, it is undrinkable.Focus on flavour and enjoying the food. You quickly don't miss the stodge. Just finished the meal above and amazingly there is no room, want or need for pudding, I'm stuffed.

If you're missing chips, pasta, rice, then you're not putting enough meat in. Add more meat and you'll be so stuffed you won't care for the starch fillers. That's how I worked it when I first did keto a decade ago. Your proteins (meat, fish, eggs) are your go-tos to keep the hunger at bay.then (while chicken is grilling); fried with a massive knob of butter or two - medium onion, garlic paste (cheating I know), whole punnet of mushrooms, sliced. Possible downside, hopefully only temporary.
Despite being a bit of a bloater with heart (electrical not plumbing) issues and taking some quite evil medication, I'm quite active.
I'm no lycra clad racing snake but do cycle and often do 20-25 miles.
Just been out and struggled to do 8 miles. I believe this is due to my body not yet being able to burn fat and me currently being very low glycogen?

That will improve as your body gets used to burning fat, you will probably always struggle a little more on the hills or explosive acceleration because of the lack of glycogen though. I used to take a couple of gels with me for the huge hills if on a big ride.Despite being a bit of a bloater with heart (electrical not plumbing) issues and taking some quite evil medication, I'm quite active.

I've also found that blitzing caulliflower with butter is a great replacement for mash potato. Celeriac is good also, either baked or mashed or fried, for chips.
Roast raddish is good too for a replacement for roast potatoes.
I miss potoatoes.

I'm in.
Last Thursday diagnosed as T2, but only just, and I need to sort it. When I say I'm in, I have been since last Thursday upon the suggestion of my GP!
I've today bought some piddle sticks so will be hopefully able to check if the process has initiated.
I have to say I'm finding it tough. And even tougher trying to work out what the hell to eat. For this last few days I've been on as little as possible carbs to give the process the best chance of ignition.
I know there are lots of links posted up thread of sites providing recipes but I'd really like some advice on quick go-to foods that don't need much or any prep until me and my Wife have had time to work out what the hell to do.
I'm already feeling the effects, I think, of reduced appetite and hunger and have been eating lots of lovely bbq grilled chicken, bacon, eggs and cheese but am struggling with the veg. I don't like plain veg or salad but will eat it with gravy / a dressing etc, but what, now, they all seem to be carby?
Some really basics questions:
1, I've read sodium can be an issue at first, so have been having a Knorr stock cube dissolved in water, are these ok?
2, What are your go-to snacks when you are in moments of weakness?
3, Any basic quick meal ideas?
In time, i'll catch up on the reading but at the moment I've not had time to research and plan, I've just reacted to that phone call from the GP about T2.
Any help, suggestions or pointers much appreciated.

Something I didn't mention in this thread is that I've got quite a few other medical issues going on, mainly heart and as a result have to take some really nasty drugs.
Whilst I engaged full on with the keto diet, at the outset I tried to get some proper advice on any interactions of a keto diet with my drug regime. It has taken almost two weeks for this information to filter back to me from my cardiologist via my GP.
The advice is no keto diet for me, it is too risky given all the other stuff going on.
And there was me wondering why I felt like death warmed up, I mean really ill.
The good new though was I managed to lose just under half a stone in those few weeks.
But anyway, goodbye keto people, thanks for the input and advice. I think I'll now go "Mediterranean" which will also be miserable as I hate fish!
Never been interested in the Keto diet tbh, I think restrictive diets (avoiding certain food groups) are nonsense personally.
Definitely not criticising it’s usefulness in terms of weight loss though.
But just out of curiosity, what’s the longest someone here has managed to maintain a strict Keto diet?

I'm sure there will be folk who have adopted a life long keto lifestyle particularly those with medical conditions it has tangible benefits following.Definitely not criticising it’s usefulness in terms of weight loss though.

Tbh I don't think it is the best the for weight loss I expect a lot of people who follow it short term will be back to square one or worse.

I will say though that, given what I had been eating which I was on before: beer, pasta, rice, potatoes, I felt like st. I felt far better on the keto than I did off of it. So I would say now that I will stick to this. I may go off it for holidays so that would be once or twice a year, or have a day where I drink a beer or two, but honestly I don't think I would want to go back to eating the way I did before.
Plus, like a311 has said, i think those on this diet for medical reasons would be sticking to it. But I don't think it's any different to those who have to avoid lactose or gluten. Sometimes it's just easier to given up the certain foods because the alternatives are shockingly bad. Gluten free bread has to be the worst thing available on the market after Campari.
I've been doing this for coming up 2 weeks now, after seeing it on Michael Mosley's TV programme. My wife and I are following the recipes from his wife's book which on the whole are excellent, especially the lamb tagine and the roast chicken.
I lost 5lbs in the first week, but since then put a 1lb back on and then it has come off again. My wife has lost 10lb I think.
As I don't have a sweet tooth it's not been as hard as I thought, however the hardest part I have found is what to drink during the day. I've been doing sparkling water with lemon or lime in, but I'm so bored of it now. Any cold drink suggestions?
