Keto diet - anyone else?

If you mean achieving a Keto diet is more difficult if you don’t eat meat, diary or eggs, then you are correct.
Well, quite. What do you think a Keto vegetarian is going to eat, exactly? It gets a bit repetitive with meat, cheese, eggs, and double cream whenever you want it.

I'm keen to give the Keto diet a go but am concerned about my ability to keep it up whilst I am travelling.
Maybe twice a month I have to spend 3-5 nights in a hotel for work, so I'd have no food prep facilities and would have to eat out. Is anyone else in a similar situation?
I'd imagine rolling in and out of keto every two weeks would be an interesting experience?!
I’m away half the month in hotels and to be honest I find it easier! Breakfast always has your staple Keto foods like bacon and eggs. Skip lunch or carry nuts with you and for dinner have fish / steak with a salad and veg. It’s rare that somewhere won’t switch out fries for some broccoli or some other Keto friendly veg. Drinks wise it’s a case of red wine or gin and soda with fresh lime. Can I ask, what is the reason for yourselves undertaking this diet? Is it weight loss or something else.
this diet specifically? Can I ask, what is the reason for yourselves undertaking this diet? Is it weight loss or something else.
Primarily, to lose weight with no hunger or lack of energy. I work hard, often outside recently in rather cold temps, and if I'm to lose weight I need a diet that won't leave me feeling hungry, lethargic or unsatisfied.

I started it for weight loss reasons. Basically I was about 4 stone overweight and was planning on doing the usual ‘low fat, reduced calorie, lots of cardio’ route as I’ve done before. Can I ask, what is the reason for yourselves undertaking this diet? Is it weight loss or something else.
A friend suggested the Keto diet and I was massively cynical and fully expected it to fail. I couldn’t have been more wrong!
Aside from the weight loss I’ve noticed a load of positive effects; lack of hunger, lack of cravings for junk food, the ability to go a day or so without eating (fasting), no blood sugar crashes mid morning or mid afternoon, no bloating and no farting (seriously!).
The first few weeks were pretty grim and I had next to no energy but now I’m up every morning at 5am, gym by 6am and then full of energy all day. I do very little cardio in the gym and have done 5x5 StrongLifts to complement the Keto and whilst I’m not going to be gracing the front cover of fitness magazines any time soon the changes have been quite significant, even if I do say so myself.
Most importantly I feel I’ve found a way of eating and exercising that’s sustainable for me in the long term. It’s clearly not for everyone, though!
Agree with the above. You really do feel different and just don't get hungry. There was a post on this thread a month or two ago which said 'don't forget to eat'. You really can forget to eat on it.
You also lose fat whilst minimising lean muscle loss, but there is a whole youtube on that!
Downsides are repetitiveness of meals, obsession with food (but you'll have this with any diet) and I find it doesn't sit well with hard, explosive cardio. I think a few on here run/cycle well on it though.

Good day today. 3 days in now and disputes waking up a few hours early with a bad head ache, I drank plenty of water and that went away.
Breakfast was eggs and spinach. Then didn’t need to eat lunch (spinach, prawns, tuna, cheese) until about 5 (wasn’t actually able to eat before then due to work). Been to gym feeling plenty of energy and then had cauliflower, low carb sausages, bacon, cheese asparagus.
Snacked on a couple of almonds. Loving coffee and almond milk and coconut oil. Drank lots of water. Keto sticks should land this week.
Something like 2250 calories and 15g carbs

That's much more like it. Do that for two weeks to make sure you "transition". Then you can look at reducing calories. In truth, as long as you stay off the sugar - in all it's forms - you will find that your body is so good at judging it's needs that it all happens on it's own.

Clearly you’ve got to do whatever it takes to keep you sane and on track but any chance you can ditch the almond milk and replace with double cream (or just the coconut oil)? It still has quite a few carbs in it and I’m sure I read it somewhere that it can have negative effects - can’t remember what it was but something about inflammation, I think. Good work, though! The problem with this diet is you can’t really have a cheat day as it kicks you out of Ketosis and sets you back another three days!

I haven’t been anywhere near strict enough. Lack of sleep completely knocks my eating off kilter so I am back to square one here
Thanks for the positive comments.
I bought some double cream so could swap out the almond milk. It is the unsweetened type and says zero carbs on the info tho?? But will try it as I like the cream and oil.
It’s definately all about the prep so you don’t get caught in a hunger pang with nothing to eat. Also just getting over long held beliefs that eating loads of fats is bad.
Really want the keto sticks to land before something happens and I knock myself out of ketosis (if I’m even there?!).

I have a shake each morning of
150ml double cream
250ml unsweetened almond milk
1 tablespoon peanut butter
2 scoops protein powder.
Keeps me in ketosis and keeps me full till lunch.
Not trying to lose weight just enjoying the other benefits of Keto.

I don't know if you already use Reddit but I'd reccomend that for Keto information. Lots of people on there across the globe doing it for different reasons and really interesting to see how it helps people diabetes, weight loss, fitness, auto immune diseases, bodybuilding (not ideal imo) You get the usual share of militant "you can't have a cheat day" "that's not Keto" blah blah blah but pretty easy to tune them out when you see some are doing "lazy Keto" some are having a cheat day and some do the TKD which I tend to do and some do the CKD.
It's a good resource, Instagram is great for meal ideas I regularly rob ideas from there.
A while back when I was looking at keto, I found the blog of a cyclist who can take huge amounts of carbs in, but stays in keto because his output is equally huge.
grass fed too preferably, also freeze processed, not heat processed.
A lot of the big brands are made in the same place.

That sounds insane
I’m new to protein powders. What type should I be looking to use?
