Keto diet - anyone else?

14.5kg down as of last night, or 32lb. Over 10% of my body weight! Another half a kilo and I'll be below 120kg. I'm 120.55kg now, or 18.98 stone. Probably the first time I've been below 19 stone in years! I'm lighter now than I was in 2016.
Put a t-shirt on the other day that I'd given to the Mrs to wear for bed as it didn't fit me well anymore, it fits now.
Hi-viz jacket I have for work was tight when I started keto, to the point where if I got much bigger it would've been a pain to zip up. Got loads of spare room in it now.
Have a lot more 'good' days energy wise now, I can tell I have more energy and do things a lot more effortlessly and quickly if that makes sense? Yesterday I was a bit slower but perked up towards the end of my shift.
Noticed the biggest change in my legs, my job involves quite a bit of squatting, and with me being heavy, my leg muscles built up quite well before starting keto. Now there's not that much fat on them, they're muscular as fk. Feels ace.
I've always felt like the fat kid, all the way through my childhood and school etc, even until now. Feel like I'm well on my way to waving that feeling goodbye.
Probably around 1/3 of the way there, started at 135, I think 90ish kg will probably be about right, but we'll see how it goes, maybe I'll want to lose more/less than that. That'll be exactly a third of my start weight gone.
Had quite a few people noticing at work as well, even people that didn't know I was doing this, which again feels fantastic!

Sorry to potentially piss on your chips but...a word or warning....Are you ready to make this a lifestyle choice....a way of life rather than a diet? If you can accept that then you will succeed. If you think you can return to normal once you hit your target weight you are very much mistaken, the weight goes back on quicker than it comes off. Good luck and well done so far.Put a t-shirt on the other day that I'd given to the Mrs to wear for bed as it didn't fit me well anymore, it fits now.

Personally I have found keto a difficult long-term way of living. A few months is fine. But long-term not only does it become very dull, it can make you look quite sallow.

We're all different, and keto lifestyle may well not suit some. Personally I have found keto a difficult long-term way of living. A few months is fine. But long-term not only does it become very dull, it can make you look quite sallow.
Personally I'm an advocate of low carb, not necessarily keto - although it's actually more anti-seed oil, flour and processed food in general. These days I'm more interested in health side than weight control - done that.
That hollow/sallow look is only short term, if at all.
Given a little time your skin 'readjusts' to its new level and becomes more natural.

IIRC you are a similar age to me, so you'll be aware that, above a certain age, subcutaneous fat diminishes and keto tends to emphasise a gaunt look on those with low body fat. Obviously low body fat being the driver for doing it in the first place.
I have tried low fat eating, low-carb eating and specific carb eating. I find low-carb the best for not feeling continuously hungry, with SCD second. Eating a carby diet and trying to remain slim can be hard work.

I guess if you're aiming for sub 10% BF that may be the case, but for 'normals' I don't think it's a problem.
I'm 58, 6' 1", 72kgs, 30" waist (gotta love metric/imperial combo) - I'd guess about 15-18% BF.
Nobody's calling me gaunt or sallow anytime soon.

It's all very personal. Since July 20 I've lost 23kg on keto. Yes it's a lifestyle choice but one that suits me . I love bbq and this diet fits perfectly (see bbq thread). My target is 100kg I'm at 101 now. Great to put on clothes that I thought I would never wear again. As far as I can see it's totally sustainable for me. I eat once a day and never feel hungry or need to snack. Never felt better physically. I'm 61.

Went 17.5>12.5 stone in less a than a year, low carb and IF with treat days (which could be full on lagers and curry) not proper keto. At 12.5 it just kind of stopped and that's okay, been a couple years now. Since then low carb and IF, couple of treat days per week, and since lockdown and no pubs decided to keep some beers in the house and had a couple bottles every night and still not piled it back on.
I think you have to find what works for you. Different things suit different peoples and lifestyles.
Never looked sallow thou

What would the 'one meal' consist of? Still researching Keto and got the book but Mrs Shanks believes its a load of toshMykap said:

I have a coffee for breakfast, that's it. Then on the rare occasions I feel like it I'll have a piece of cheese as a snack midday but this is very rare. I then eat at 6pm. Generally I'll cook some meat on the bbq, either steak, burgers and sausages, pork chop or beer can chicken. I'll eat some veg either carrots or preferably cauliflower or broccoli. I do eat roast potatoes but only cold ones ( resistant starch... Google is your friend). I make a cauliflower cheese once a week.
I do a fathead dough pizza once a week.
I also make keto friendly sweets like cheese cake. Also I'll have allowed berries such as strawberry and Raspberry's with double cream. I should eat more eggs.
I started on this path after some big changes in my life after the Spanish lockdown. It's much easier to stick to the diet living alone.
I have cut out almost all sugar. I only drink beer on Sundays as a cheat treat. Otherwise it's wine and bourbon with diet coke.
Watching the Joe Rogan podcast with Jordan Peterson got me interested in this. I initially went carnivore but it's too restricted for me. The keto diet is perfect for me personally.
Diet doctor is good but there are many sources. google is your friend.
Tonight's 8gm of carbohydrates feast was bbq pork ribs ( slow cooked 3 2 1 method on my Big Joe). The cheese stuffed pepper was a recipe from

Does anyone have a preferred web link for recipes / plans, or a book they've used?
I want to start keto, but want to be sure I'm doing it right. I've about 12 kg to shift, and I spend quite some time swimming or in the gym each week.
Thanks for any advice!
I've just used the internet (mostly diet doctor I think) to understand what foods contain carbs, and then invent my own recipes from that. When I fancy something specific I will do a search and see if there are any keto friendly recipes for it.I want to start keto, but want to be sure I'm doing it right. Even though it's the middle of winter, my lunch generally consists of some of the following: Eggs (either cold hard boiled, fresh soft boiled, scrambled or as an omelet), cheese, tinned tuna (the ventresca fillets in the oval can are lovely and an ideal portion size), smoked salmon, avocado, mozzarella, 4 or 5 chopped cherry tomatoes, 1 finely sliced spring onion, mayonnaise, smoked mackerel, olive oil. You can make loads of different really tasty and satisfying lunches using just 3 or 4 of the above in your preferred combination - making sure that you have plenty of fat in there.
For dinner I just tend to cook a variation on what I would normally cook but in smaller portions and without any potatoes, rice, pasta etc.
After 3 or 4 days on the diet your appetite will reduce significantly, and you will have to educate yourself to cook / prepare smaller portions. You won't be hungry, so you'll naturally just eat less. Then it becomes much easier to figure out what to cook.
