I honestly was expecting it to be rank....but it was delicious!

When you pour the initial ingredients into bake, I was thinking this will be horrible.. but boy was I wrong.

Made the tomato sauce in the blender with some garlic and basil, definitely doesn't need salt!!

If your on keo, definitely try it.

How did the base turn out? I've tried a few variants, and it's edible but that's all. Soggy, normally, too.

Dry, it was fine.

I used 2 eggs, a bag 140g of grated cheddar and about 1.5 tablespoons of almond flour.

Baked it a bit longer and it was firm and crispy.

Definitely fills you up !!

Out of interest doesn't Keto raise your cholesterol?

I've just had mine checked at 5.8 and the suggestion is to stop eating hard cheeses etc?

The Lipid Hypothesis - that dietary fat causes high cholesterol causes heart disease - has had both links proven false, but won't die. Some people just won't unlearn things they think they know. It also pushes one of the medical industry's most profitable products - statins. I doubt that is a coincidence.

You need to look at the breakdown - the triglycerides (TG) and the lipoproteins (VLDL, LDL, and HDL) - as these tell you how your diet is affecting your liver. Healthy indications are low triglycerides and high HDL, or a low TG:HDL ratio (under 1.0). Keto usually achieves this.

I am on a Keto lite, so predominately salads with a little cheese every night, a few mini cheeses & a pepperami for lunch so around 1300 calories. With the salad I have cold meats or tinned fish (occasionally fresh). Just had my bloods tested and I was on 3.8 previously on a standard diet I was 5.2

To save scrolling through 32 pages looking for recipes, anyone care to jot down their go-to main meals?

I just started keto again yesterday after a 4 year hiatus. I was 17 stone when i did it last time and dropped down to 13. I came off it gently and climbed back to 14-ish where I stayed for around 3 years (probably a decent weight for me - I'm 6'4"). Two warm summers with too much beer has seen it climb to 15 so it's time to do something about it.

I love fish, seafood of any kind really. I love eggs, i love cheese, I love green veg. I'm trying to eat less red meat than I used to and cutting out all processed stuff.

Yesterday:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch. Smoked salmon and avocado
Dinner. 2x sole fillets fried in butter with asparagus, spinach and broccoli then some double cream and a few raspberries
Evening snack (8pm) walnuts

Today:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: mackerel pate (smoked fish, full fat philadelphia, olive oil and s&p in the blender) with a few green crudites (pepper, mange tout, raw asparagus)
Dinner (planned): spinach & broccoli fritata with heaps of cheese
Evening snack - probably cheese smile

My wife doesn't believe in keto at all - she's a vegan fitness freak - marathon runner and weight lifter - and guzzles carbs. Even she admitted that what i'm eating looks healthy in a natural, non-processed sort of way rofl

Other ideas I've got for this week are:

Smoked haddock and cheese omelette
BBQ salmon and green veg
Scrambled egg and smoked salmon
Prawns and kale stir fry (the kale goes like the "seaweed" you get in a chinese takeaway - deep fried cabbage really)
Cauliflower cheese
Moules Mariniere

Lots of coconut oil and olive oil

Any more good ideas for fish, eggs and cheese?

Cheers,
Lefty

For the smoked haddock and cheese omelette, try this one:

https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/o...

It uses beaten egg white and creme fraiche for the sauce, so very low carb. And it's lovely.

Cheers that looks great. I’ll maybe use double cream and skip the cornflour though.

Anyone combining intermittent fasting with keto?

I’m eating between noon and 8pm, sort of by accident really, I’m not hungry in the morning.

I've just started out on a Keto type regime, sort of like Keto Light. I've recently sold my business and was very hands on so I've pigged out on bacon rolls and doughnuts for the last 20 odd years, I've always been of the mindset that because my work is very physical not like digging holes but a lot of climbing up scaffolding etc. Since selling my business I've not been so physically active so have decided to change my diet.
Although I don't consider myself overweight I want to now pursue a pro active regime where by following many of the foods suggested by the Youtube guy Dr Eric Berg I hope not to gain weight and drastically reduce my intake of sugar. Any further suggestions would be welcome.
Forgot to mention, I hate greens and have never eaten them, in fact the only green thing I eat are the green Opal fruits and Lettuce.

I've just started something similar - not full on Keto but I've cut out processed foods, refined sugar and most carbs, I'm just over 3 weeks in.

You can try the sugar substitutes, I did but they taste wrong to me and they kept the craving going I think. In my experience going 'cold turkey' was a better idea, after 4 or 5 days the cravings went and I now feel far better (I was a biscuit addict).
Cauliflower cheese is a Godsend for me, I'm not keen on salads and greens either. Also, roasted veg - onions, peppers and carrots in the air fryer.
Fill up on protein (meat essentially but also eggs and fish) but make sure you have a reasonable amount of veg if you don't want to get blocked up. Also on that score drink a lot of water - I started buying packs of fizzy water from the supermarket which 'feels' better than just drinking tapwater.
Buy stuff you like - I've been bulk buying steaks and freezing them, cooking chicken in Piri-Piri seasoning or making curry, the more you like what you eat, the more likely you are to stick to it.

Interesting, I'm only a few days in but have stopped eating any white bread and make my own gluten free Wholemeal bread no more doughnuts or sweet things and I'm fine with that, cold turkey is the only way, I know I can do it because I stopped smoking 25 years ago just like that, and have not gone back.
I'm okay with salads and eat a lot of lettuce, grated raw carrot and have grown my own tomatoes this year.
I've started taking Sea Kelp tablet every day and reluctantly drink 80ml of green coloured super smoothie every morning in an attempt to at least get a bit of green stuff into my system.
I did a BMI test and came out at 24 which means no stressful trying to loose weight just a Keto type regime to prevent putting weight on and getting into an unhealthy state.

keto is an interesting diet.. I did it for a few months before and went back to just my normal tracking of what I eat.

was hard to sustain it and foods quickly got boring.

Same here with smoking, tried to run the length of the pitlane at Silverstone and nearly passed out - from that day on I just stopped. Best way I think.

Good things with salad are quiche, chicken with a rub/seasoning or oily fish, omlettes are a good one too and you can get creative with fillings.

My reasoning is similar to yours, I could do with dropping a few pounds but it's more about health - I'm over 50 and that's when the 'middle aged male' stuff starts to happen, especially around the heart so I'm hoping this will be a permanent change, hence not going full keto and just being thoughtful about carbs rather then super-strict.
But cutting out sugar is probably the biggest change and I find my eating habits have changed around it - no more ups and downs of appetite and no more snack cravings.

Started this in June when I hit my heaviest ever weight of 205lbs and 23lbs lost so far. Probably another 5 or 6lbs to go to fine tune where i want to be because under that I think I might start looking to be too skeletal.

I'm not much of a cook, but am enjoying the challenge of coming up with food that keeps me interested. There's an awful lot of bks online with Keto recipes which seem a bit daunting until you realise it is just people trying to over complicate things to make money out of it.

I've been watching a number of Youtube presentations by Dr Eric Berg, okay he is a USA based source but I find him knowledgable, and agree with you some of the Keto friendly recipes have not come out well for me. Although I'm going to make the Keto friendly chocolate mixed nut clusters as a treat.
I'm pleased so far because I've replaced my much loved doughnuts (proper ones from a small bakery not supermarket stuff) with a large orange then in the evening a slice of honeydew melon.
I'd never bothered with things like BMI figures but now take an interest just to keep an eye on my food intake, I'm recently retired and have a bit more time on my hands and don't want to put on weight unnecessarily, purely and simply because it's easier to watch it rather than the stress of trying to loose it which I know I won't be very good at.

With over 125 pages, it may be like looking for a needle in the haystack.
But could anyone tell me why it's good to have MCT oil/powder when first starting out on Keto?

If I'm looking to produce ketones, would it not be counterproductive to consume something that will pass straight into the liver and convert?
I'm guessing it will also give a false reading on the keto sticks when you go for a pee.

Or is this more to do with fasting, and it's a little helper to increase the fasting window?

I'm back on keto from 1 Jan 2022 for at least 3 months.

I've lost 8kg so far in 48 days.

I've watched some videos by Dr Cywes on Youtube - his mantra is simply to cut out the carbs altogether rather than allowing yourself 20g a day otherwise you try and find 20g to have everyday - he was right - for me it was fruit and then I be tempted to just have a little more.

I'm fine having yogurt and nuts for breakfast and usually chicken with skin on at night. I could probably skip breakfast totally to be honest.

The other point he makes is to have a crutch - something to get over the urge to snack - and have it easily available - for me its decaff coffee.

He also says don't bother calorie counting, if you eat fatty foots your body will tell you when to stop. Having said that, I have significantly cut down on my portions. His other thing (which makes sense) is don't put X amount of food on your plate as you will eat it. Instead take a little and eat and keep doing until naturally full.... only slight problem for me is that I need to prep each meal so not practical to make loads i might not eat.

Definitely feeling a lot of mental clarity which think is down to the diet. I was eating a lot of junk before and felt like crap.

Yes I won't be able to maintain it forever but certainly taught me a lesson about the volume of food I eat so going forward even if I do eat carbs I hope to control it better.

Well done.

Obviously a few kgs of your 8kgs will be water. That stays off as long as you stay "on". It's a glucose storage thing.

I agree on the not counting calories. Keto works with your body, not against it. Eat proper meals and trust your body.

I would lose the nuts and yoghurt starting today. It's not a meal, just empty calories.

There is no good reason you cannot do this for life.

I started again last week. I kept the weight off that I lost from doing keto a few years ago as it ingrained some healthier habits in me, but in the last year sadly it has crept back on as I've been eating and drinking a lot of crap. After a couple of false starts due to things out of my control, I'm now back at it.

Feeling good so far, bought some electrolyte tablets that dissolve in water and haven't had keto flu this time. I love how the bloated feeling dissappears and how I don't HAVE to buy something sweet every time I get petrol.

Had a few cravings so far which I've been trying to plug with coffee and one night had a large lamb shish kebab and threw away the pita. This did help. Last time, my go to was Nandos so I'll keep that in reserve for next time I'm struggling.

Good luck everyone and enjoy your journey.
