I've tried to get back on keto to shift some weight

Lost a couple of stone about 6 years back. It's taken 6 years to go back on, so not like some say, that it piles back on as soon as you stop....

But I just can't get properly in to it.

I start to feel better, less bloated, less hungry.. but for some reason I find it so hard this time around. Cravings to strong, peer pressure, I like a drink moreso now than back then.

I know it works so well for weight loss and generally for me as a lifestyle too - new partner and lots of meals out put a stop to it for me previously otherwise I'd have been continuously keto. .

Anyone else found the same and got any advice?

Thought it was time I posted an update here!

If you read back to around page 110 you'll see I started Keto on the 6th of Dec 2020 at 135kg / 298lb / 21st3lb.

This was me in June last year compared to the day I started!

Reluctant to post photos like that as I know PH can be a cesspit at times but fk it, I'm well happy with the achievement - and yes I fkING KNOW I'm hairy, I have been told once or twice before.....

I got down to 89.6kg, that's a loss of 45kg / 7st / 100lb. With ZERO extra exercise. In 6 months.

I didn’t really expect it to work and expected to be a month in and Googling why it wasn’t working for me. Except that didn’t happen at all and I lost 1/3 of my body weight in 6 months ??

I’m on my feet all day at work but that’s literally it, didn’t go for any walks, cycling, etc etc. It’s made me realise that being fat is a choice (for me at least, I know that for some people it’s more complicated) and I can now easily control my weight.

That loss averaged out over 6 months is almost a kilo every 4 days. 1.75 kilos a week! To visualise it, the total loss was 22.5 of those big 2l Pepsi bottles - I couldn't imagine trying to do my day to day life now with 22 Pepsi bottles strapped to my back!

I have some before/afters with the same work uniform on which show how tight it was and how loose it is now, but I don't want to identify where I work obviously, so have these instead - before/after with the same ex-McRae Impreza:

Much better I think you'll agree!

Now the after photos were taken in June 2021 - since then I've fluctuated quite a bit. I pigged out last Xmas with the "fk it, it's Christmas" attitude - with the intention that I'd be back on it when I returned to work. We got Covid at New year so had another 2 weeks off work and I continued with the "it's Christmas" attitude.... Dangerous! Got back upto 110+ before I reined it in and became sensible again! Spent most of 2022 fairly stable around 100-102kg once I got it all back under control. My ex and I went our separate ways in August, so I've been quite focused on self improvement lately. It was my mate's wedding in October and I said I'd be strictly back on Keto after his wedding (I have been eating fairly Keto-ish ever since starting, with the odd few weeks around Christmas/work shutdowns/Birthdays etc) But I think I really do need to make it my way of life now and keep the pigging out to very short periods. Most of this year I've been drinking at weekends, knocked that on the head after the wedding as I knew it wasn't helping and was also costing a fking fortune! Won't drink now until Christmas week off. When I don't eat Keto I'm bloated, then immediately hungry once the bloat goes, and stting all the time! At the minute I tend to st a couple of times a week - obviously everything that goes in is being used.

I've also been swimming quite a bit this year, noticed a huge improvement in stamina since starting - I struggled to do 2 lengths without getting out of breath when I started, now I can swim 1km without stopping. I've also started trampolining a couple of months ago - every Sunday for 2 hours with my mate, this is absolutely fantastic fun and a mega workout - I'm completely drenched in sweat after the first hour, let alone the 2nd. These exercises combined with the huge protein intake have resulted in me starting to get pretty muscular! No interest in gym/lifting, it's just too boring! I have started doing 40 situps a day though and can feel a 6-pack coming on, just need to lose a little layer of belly fat!

Anyway since my mate's wedding in Oct I've dropped 10kg, this morning I'm 92kg. So barely above the lowest I ever got to, but a lot more muscular!

No expert / not being funny - but that is a whopper of a breakfast.
Keto or no Keto magic qualities, you can't expect to 'lose weight' sitting on a sofa in jogging pants troughing that.
Funnily enough, that's exactly what I did smile And tbh this comment actually motivated me quite a bit, as I wanted to prove you wrong. Still not sure of the relevance of my clothing? Anyway I'm wearing the same joggers as I'm sat here typing this, and they still don't fit very well. Although it's for a different reason...

Very good by the way what does trampolining involve? I’ve no idea. Is it literally just jumping up and down, I can’t imagine doing that after 1/2 hour must get boring? Also how tall are you to give us an comparative.

Thanks! There was an element of feeling like my then-girlfriend was out of my league which definitely contributed to me doing this, but I don't think I'd say it was the main reason. I was simply fed up of having always felt fat hehe Also I struggled quite a bit through Covid, feeling very vulnerable (a lot of the younger people who died from it were obese) so that contributed too. Either way, massively glad I did it now and I'm much healthier as a result!

Well done.

But what was it you said that offended your barber sufficiently that he would do that to you?
Believe it or not, I actually wanted the shaved sides hehe And in that photo it's VERY tame compared to how it looks now, see below hehe

Might as well use the excuse to post some more before/afters, I know it's a bit self congratulatory but bks to it, I'm allowed a bit of that after all that success hehe

Interestingly I've aged back to around 16 hehe

Me aged 16:

Me aged 22 or 23: (looking closer to 40 though!)

Me a few weeks ago, aged 28:

And yep, before anyone asks - the diet did cause the hair to change colour. I just woke up one morning and it looked like that hehe

We go to a local trampoline park, it's a big area full of small trampolines that are all connected to one another, just Google 'trampoline park' and you'll get an idea, easier than my crap explanation hehe But you can jump from one to another and just do laps up and down, there are some at a 45deg angle against the wall at one end so to turn round you can throw yourself into that back-first and it launches you back in the other direction.

It's unfortunately full of kids at the weekend but that's the only real time we can go due to my mate's work. There are a couple of bigger trampolines that are good for learning moves etc. As of last week I can land a flip on my feet! Can you imagine the fat fk in the before photos doing that? hehe

It's a lot of fun honestly, I look forward to it every week and haven't got bored yet! Swimming however, I only go because I feel like I should and like going in the sauna afterwards.

Looks like Louis Balfour deleted his post or an admin deleted it? It's fine, I wasn't offended hehe

Love your hair Jaaack. Don’t change that. (If you use or want to try Directions hair colour use code JACK10 for a discount - my eldest is an ambassador/influencer with them and has bright green hair too smile)

back on the keto way after a year eating normally, only want to lose 8 kg's but it just find i have so much more energy and as someone who does long distance endurance events this is perfect for me.

Plus I love scoffing meat and cheese so it's ideal, already lost 2kg's in the 1st week and looking forward to seeing the results by Christmas

Excellent results @ Jaack. clap

@ Rhodrig, everybody loses the best part of a stone in weight in the first week or two into a keto diet regime. Sadly the initial rate doesn't last and you'll most likely find yourself going weeks without the scales changing much (if at all), particularly if you're eating large potions. I do mostly keto with a 3 on 4 off eating window (eat fri sat sun, fast mon-thu) along with a daily 30 min kettlebell work-out and there are weeks where the scales don't even move, although I am down in the 12 stone range now so there isn't that much of 'me' left to lose wobble (I'm 6'2)

Anyone else tried mashed potato squash?

It’s fabulous….had in on a shepherd's pie last night with a coating of cheese. Was just as nice as real potato and keto friendly!

Most of that 2kg will have been water. Week one you usually lose 4lb on about day 4 as you drop water. Weight loss slows thereafter for most people.

I want to but found it difficult to source unless in bulk. Where do you buy yours?

Great news Jaaack, very well done. I'm in a similar position to your starting point, have done keto before and managed to get down to 120kg before a two month weight loss plateau and a friend's post lockdown garden party tempted me to fall off the wagon and I've never gotten back to it. The weight crept back on quietly with the consumption of beer. The stupid thing is that I really enjoyed the keto diet and found it super easy, I need to break bad habits and get back to it. My body seems to hold weight, I was really strict with keto, but only managed 10kg in four months with walking, gym & swimming in addition to keto. If I could replicate your success I'd be over the moon.
