Started Keto last Friday after one of my friends decided to do the carnivore diet. His seemed a bit excessive.
Keto took a couple of days to get used to. And I've bought multivits to make up for some of those my diet lacks.
First week I lost 6.5 pounds.
Seems excessive and I assume it will level out over time.
However seems easy to follow and I've not noticed any reduced energy or brain fog.
I'm also not hungry which I assume is a good sign.
That's a lot even for Keto. What was your starting weight?

Most of your loss will be water, by the way. It won't continue at that rate.
Started at 16,9
The first 3 days I lost 4lbs, so obviously some water and getting rid of whatever food I had in my bowels.

I think most people lose +/- 4lbs in the first five days.

When I used to do keto, if I stopped eating carbs Sunday night, I'd be in keto Thursday lunchtime and Friday's weigh-in was 4lbs down.

I’m still following a Keto diet, albeit not currently in Ketosis as I tend to now have up to 100g of carbs a day and just maintain. I’ve never felt or been healthier and am at 66kg (have been for over a year). If I have a ‘treat’ I’ll drop to 20g for week or so after.

I’m in Frinton this week and parked the camper outside this today. So happy to see a Keto cafe! Might eat here at some point this week. Menu comprised of various Chaffles (inc breakfast Salmon etc), Pizzas, Soups and breads and some delicious sounding desserts at 1.5 - 4g carbs.

Dr. Eric Berg (900+ keto videos) shadow banned on Youtube. Top ranked keto video now from government approved Mayo Clinic that says keto is bad for you rolleyes . What would we do without our caring government masters protecting us uninformed plebs from all this dangerous "misinformation" out there? I guess all these self-help videos to keep you healthy is really bad business for Big Food Co and Big Pharma, both of which need you to be chowing on their nutritionless refined carbs, seed oils and artificial sweetener poison which fk your body, causes inflammation and all sorts of other issues meaning you spend half of your life in the doctor's room being prescribed cocktails of drugs to mask the effects = $$$$$kerching for both. But no, definitely not, that sounds like some kind on conspiracy theory to me.

I'm exploring the keto or low carb diet. I'm 247lbs and 6 ft 1 so much heavier than I should be. Been "big" since 18 and discovering drinking. Drinking days are behind me but clearly addicted to food / sugar. Fast food and chocolate are my vices.

HBa1C was 42 a year or so ago was pre- diabetic. Since then i've not got any better so probably on the verge of T2 now. So not only do I need to lose weight but need to curb the carbs too.

Thought i'd give it a go. 3 days in. Not sure how many grams of carbs to have so being flexible with it at the moment. 44g, 120g, 122g so far. Before I was tracking I'd say I was easily having 200 to 300g a day.

I know that i'll replies saying that is not low carb but it sure is for me! Managed to be in a calorie deficit those 3 days so thats good. I can't see mt going full keto but need to hit lower carb for sure.

What's everyones thoughts on what constitutes "low carb" and any tips? I'm bloody starving! I think its just more the VERY bad habits I had before rather than actual hunger but I really feel like I'm withdrawing from it!

Look at it as a moving target. Just keep lowering them as you get used to it. Fixating on numbers can sometimes be counter productive.

Some people prefer cutting them slowly, others can go cold turkey and find that preferable. The main thing is you're going in the right direction. Just got to work out what works for you and isn't going to see you back on the carb train.

<50g/day.

You WILL feel starving because you're not in ketosis. You're using carbs for energy, and then not eating enough carbs, basically.

Get some ketostix, drop your carbs to below 50g, up your fats and test. It will take you about 4 days of sub-50g carbs to enter ketosis and you'll lose 4lbs (of water mostly) in week one.

Also, keto isn't a recipe for being a pig, just with fats instead of carbs. You will see initial benefits just from dropping carbs, but eventually you'll be counting calories, just like any other diet.

If you really want keto ...

As low as possible for a few weeks to force the transition to ketogenesis. Aim for under 20g carbs net of fibre. Once past that period staying under 50g carbs should keep you there.

Don't bother counting calories or trying for a calorie deficit. That really isn't how a keto diet works. It's the wrong focus and it's demoralizing. Eat if you are hungry and don't if you aren't. Keep in mind that there aren't really any healthy snacks, so plan to eat meals and avoid snacking.

I'm now just under 5 weeks in.
Initial weightless was massively more than I expected.
I find it an easy diet and don't count calories.
Had a burger for lunch, just didn't eat the bread. Its that simple.
Loving my omelette bacon cheese and onion breakfasts.
So far 16 lbs in 31 days.

Had what’s probably our last BBQ at the weekend frown Friends have now ditched the bread rolls and are using lettuce to wrap their burgers after laughing at me at the beginning of the season! It’s so much tastier.
I’ve been 100g carbs a day for a few weeks but I’m back to strict sub 20g carbs a day at the moment and want to be for a month or so. I had bacon and egg for breakfast and have been full all day! I snack on cooked chicken, odd bag of Pork Scratchings, Almonds and other nuts.

I really am a big fan of the Konjac pasta/rice/noodles now and keep cupboards stocked when it’s on offer in Holland & Barrett or find it in B&M/Home Bargains for £1.
It takes minutes to heat and often make a quick Tuna Pasta with cheese, a cream cheese sauce and add ham/bacon, Spag Bol or add chilli to the rice or fry up with egg and ham and have a ‘Chinese’. Find these meals really satisfying. Quick and easy.

Another go to has been Rocket/Strong Italian Saad with Feta Cheese.

Am going to batch cook some Chaffles later this week and have some Bagel seasoning to try. Will use these for sandwiches and burger buns. My Waffle Maker was around £7 and they’re so easy to make.

Still make the Keto Condensed Milk occasionally and serve with berries as a dessert treat. Want to try the Cottage Cheese Ice Cream at some point too. Anyone made this?

After 18 months I’m in the habit of buying no or low carb products so there’s no longer crisps/bread/cake in my trolley or cupboards so definitely helps avoid temptation.

It definitely gets easier.

Sardines. I forgot to mention Sardines. I’ve been eating these a lot recently. Often straight from the tin as a quick snack. Meaty, tasty and filling with loads of protein and pretty much zero carbs. Really quick fix.

I'm not a fan of sardines or other fishy fish, but one of my favourite lazy lunches is a small tin of tuna in oil. Stirred thrown with a handful of grated cheese and some chopped spring onion. Delish

I did the Keto diet in 2017-18 and lost 3 stones (42lb) so it worked for me. However lockdown came along and I managed to put it all back on again in a short time. This time I have decided just to reduce my calorie intake to less than 2000 a day and give up the drink of course. So far I have lost 2 stones and the weight loss has slowed to half a pound a week now. I haven't found it difficult and will likely hit my target by Xmas.
I don't think it matters what system you use, it's just having the will power and discipline to stick to it.

That's exactly it imo. Calorie reduction and eating vaguely healthily, combined with some form of exercise will always work. The key is finding which method of the reduction-healthy bit is optimal for your lifestyle/physiological needs..

Absolute game changer for me. Ten times tastier, and obviously fewer carbs (at zero), than cauliflower rice. I actually prefer it to normal rice. I usually drain it, then gently fry it in some butter, then add a supermarket curry (spicier the better - lower carb!) in to the pan and mix it like a big biryani. Gorgeous and usually around 15g carbs.

I'm not doing Keto now but keep a stock of the Eat Water rice at all times. I have some noodles too but not tried them yet.

Thank you!

I just tried that for the first time as a result of your post. It's much better that the other pasta alternatives. I had pretty much given up on ever having a carbonara ever again.

Isn’t it just. I like the Biriani idea, I’ve done similar but not as full on so may try soon.
Apparently the Aldi tinned Chicken in white sauce (it used to be just 99p) is zero carbs. I have my doubts but have used it anyway with the Rice and added Mushrooms, various flavours.

thumbup Keep an eye out on the H&B deals as well worth stocking up on as a cupboard go to.

Other half hates the fishy smell, which admittedly isn’t great but once it’s rinsed and with a sauce it’s a very good alternative/replacement.

Chaffles. I’ve probably mentioned them before but anyone missing bread/burger buns get yourself a mini waffle maker (I paid around £7 in B&M) and make some Chaffles. There are zero carb recipes and they’re great for sandwiches, burgers or for mopping up poached egg and bacon with breakfast.
