As a rule-of-thumb, if it grows below ground, then drop it. (starch converts to sugar)
peas and sweetcorn are around 4-6% sugar

the better options, in addition to cabbage, courgette, asparagus, cauliflower, aubergine, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli and kale come to mind

I get most of my greens by stuffing heaps of kale and spinach in smoothies. Asparagus and/or broccoli often gets served with a steak, chicken or fish, but I definitely give potatoes a very wide berth!

Adding more fat (cream, butter) does not remove the carbs. Keto is an extreme version of low-carb diet, so I'd say that in the context of this thread topic, no, you are absolutely not allowed that quantity of peas, or really any carrots or potatoes at all. There's no way most people could eat that and maintain ketosis, or really even claim to be on a low carb diet.

If keto or low-carb is your aim, I think you've got some reading to do. Happy to help if you're struggling, but the graphics guides and recipes on diet doctor are a good start, and logging everything in MFP is essential until you get a feel for these things.

Thanks

I'm genuinely trying to give this a go. Not just trolling.

Fage yoghurt (more like kafir) is good, decent fat and protein, spuds are out, spuds is one of the higher insulin raisers

How’s the OP doing?

Can anyone post a link that has some meal plans on it please? I know there has been a few of people’s own recipes posted by people on here but I just need a few staple meals to get me going!

Also a picture showing all good foods (especially fruit and veg) and all bad would’ve really helpful!

Cheers.

Just checked MyFitnessPal from November when I last used it and was eating healthy but not keto - and was eating between 100-200g of carbs a day! Sandwiches are my vice!

What’s the concensus on flavourless protein powder mikes with coconut or almond milk and frozen blueberries?
You shouldn’t need the extra protein from a shake. It’s supposed to be moderate protein at about a gram per kilogram of body weight and that should very easily be met by the normal foods you eat on Keto.

I’ve actually switched from Keto to just low-carb / high protein and after five months of Keto I naturally choose the low carb options now. I haven’t been tracking macros or calories, just eating three decent, fatty meals a day and I’ve lost another 2kg since the start of the year.

Try these pics, they’re what I started with.

Just quoting this for ATM. I've printed it out and leave it pinned in the kitchen! Very useful - thanks Crumpet.

Okay, I'm halfway sold on Keto now.

One of my best friends lost over 70 pounds in under a year on it and kept it off (that was over two years ago now.) I tried some recipies with him along the way and this was by far the best: https://www.ruled.me/buffalo-chicken-jalapeno-popp...

Thanks for digging all that out. Much appreciated. Haven't read it all yet, but wanted to say thanks while I remember, and I will check it out later.

I’m looking to go back into keto. This is a smoothie I have every morning...is it acceptable or do I need to drop the oats/banana/juice?
Just calculate your macros and see if it fits in to your plan.

Personally I'm either all in with Keto or nothing. I've not had porridge since I started even though I love it.

If nothing else I would lose the juice and banana, those will be adding a lot of sugar proportionally to the mix.......

Oats, pomegranate juice and bananas on a keto diet? Erm...

ETA. Aplogies, I skimmed and didn’t read properly. Definitely lose the oats, bananas and fruit juices.

ATM, Are you sure you're not trolling? You're certainly not trying keto, that's for sure.

Ketosis isn't a grey area, folks. You can't have just a couple of Buds because it's Friday.

It's pretty much an on-off switch. You're in ketosis or you're not. The idea of ditching the carrots, and then having a couple of beers is just a joke, really. It shows a total lack of understanding. There is SO much info out there on the interwebs, and none of it says it's ok to drink alcoholic liquid bread once a week.

Do or do not, there is no try!

I am trying look, just greens and beef. If you just look at the plate of food, is that good?

Yes. Go easy on the leeks, but I eat them occasionally too.

Once you are properly in ketosis, you won’t care what “they” have. Mainly because you won’t be hungry. Certainly not hungry enough to warrant eating stuff that may compromise your goal. If I can’t get what I want then I skip it until I can make my own.

Beer is pretty much completely off the menu if you’re serious about ketosis, so if you’re not willing to make that sacrifice then it probably isn’t for you. Glucose doesn’t care what day of the week it is wink

Just trying to be helpful by the way, not having a dig smile
