Thanks for digging all that out. Much appreciated. Haven't read it all yet, but wanted to say thanks while I remember, and I will check it out later.
beer
THere's a lot of info there, I've only got through the original link.
I'm currently listening to Mark Sissons on Joe Rogan.
Which has made me look into oatmeal/porridge and eliminating that.

ATM,

I found diet ginger beer and gin kept me in keto.

I'm now binging on carbs before going back to keto after easter.
Do they have artificial sweeteners in those drink?

I drink gallons of Diet Coke. Not ideal, but it keeps me off the beers. But the sweetener in it (Aspartame) has GI of 0, and it doesn't seem to affect ketosis at all for me, no matter how much I drink it. Other people report that it doesn't work for them, but it's mostly anecdotal evidence I think, so you just need to see what works for you personally.

Not all sweeteners are equal. The lower the GI, the better (for a keto diet, ignoring any other factors).

I'm coming more from how artificial sweeteners affect the microbiome, something that the Rhonda Patrick podcast led me to look into. We're learning a lot about hos the gut bacteria affect our lives.

Before keto I hated sparkling water. Now, I can't get enough of it. Weird!

Beer is pretty much completely off the menu if you’re serious about ketosis, so if you’re not willing to make that sacrifice then it probably isn’t for you. Glucose doesn’t care what day of the week it is wink

Just trying to be helpful by the way, not having a dig smile
Yep, beer is the single thing I miss the most. If you can find it, Michelob Ultra is 2.5g of carbs per bottle and although it tastes vaguely similar to drinking from the toilet bowl it does satisfy the mental cravings for a beer (or six). Even if it did knock you out of Ketosis it wouldn’t be for long - a single slice of bread would do as much damage as four Mich Ultras.

I haven’t read the posts above but I assume someone mentioned Sunday roasts? For me a Sunday roast is easy - pork, crackling, cauliflower cheese, buttered cabbage and braised sprouts. You can even make braised red cabbage if you’re happy to use sweeteners instead of brown sugar and drop the chopped apple. I’m sure if you put the time and effort in you could make a passable Yorkshire pudding with almond flour as well.

Presume so.

I was fine on it, but red bull/monster zero knocked me out of keto straight away
Seems to be a wide variation of how it affects people differently.

Looking at the can of a Monster Zero/Ultra now, it has low GI sweeteners in - Acesulfame K and Sucralose - but I think if it doesn't kick me out of ketosis, it does at the least give me cravings for sweet things in general.

For those of you who test for blood ketones, what do you consider a normal or safe level? I’m now seeing fasting numbers from 3.5-4.0

Is this considered properly in ketosis? Despite sometimes blathering on like a self proclaimed expert on the subject, I’m still new to this game, so I’m looking for assurances that I’m definitely doing it right smile

Some people have an insulin spike from sweeteners which will give you reactive hypoglycaemia. This can then cause sugar cravings etc

How long have you been fat adapted for? The body gets better over time using fat.

I do a lot of cycling on Keto and love it. Much nice than getting tired and needing sugar or a banana.
Fat adapted for around 2 months now.

For various reasons I haven't done much cycling during that period.
Do I understand correctly the body needs to adapt specifically to fat burning for sports?

Agree on Keto being more stable - no craving etc.
Just to pick up where I left off last week. Probably my 5th ride while in ketosis.
The first few rides were different than normal with winter temperatures, different clothing layers, getting back after few months downtime.

Today cycled the standard loop again (50km-ish). Eased into the first 15-20 minutes then properly smashed it.
Ended with a similar time being ketosis-fuelled compared to being normally carbohydrate-fuelled.
Breakfast consisted of 2 boiled eggs, no lunch. So IF & proper ketosis.
No binging afterwards either as when being normally carbohydrate-fuelled.

I was half expecting to bonk spectacularly along the way but nothing - no energy dips, etc.
Seemed to miss out on "peakiness" in the energy levels of carbohydrate-fuelled for lack of a better word.
It was pretty simple to just sit at regular pace.

This has been my experience, though mostly with running. I can believe that Keto wouldn't be an ideal diet for a 100m sprinter, but for longer distances and a slower pace I just find that I don't get any peaks or troughs. If I stuff myself afterwards it is purely voluntary.

In the posts about food that is and isn't keto-friendly, my current weakness are the Leech & Son pork pies from the Burwash Manor Farm Shop.

I try not to eat all the pastry, but they are so nice!

Probably get shot by some, but after nearly two years eating an animal free diet I'm switching back to ketogenic/fasting.
Really enjoyed being a 'vegan', have been as fit and healthy as I've ever been.
Switching things up for two reasons; just fancy a change, and fasting is new for me. The keto thing is just happenstance.
After just a few days I'm rediscovering how expensive it is to eat quality animal products - compared to the rice/potatoes/beans/veg I've enjoyed recently.

I think changing things up is a good thing for the diet, so long as you keep your anti-oxidants and other essentials in there.

I've noticed a few changes now I am much much lower carb. Got some serious road rage yesterday, nothing stupid just found myself very angry and it wasn't until later I thought hmm. Also I found myself sleeping very light last night or not really feeling like I had a good sleep if that makes sense.

How long have you been on Keto? You might still be adapting.

I had a couple of days of cold symptoms but nothing else really. I do get a bit light-headed if I stand up too quickly though. I eat a lot of cheese too so that affects my sleep/dreams!
