I've noticed a few changes now I am much much lower carb. Got some serious road rage yesterday, nothing stupid just found myself very angry and it wasn't until later I thought hmm. Also I found myself sleeping very light last night or not really feeling like I had a good sleep if that makes sense.
How long have you been on Keto? You might still be adapting.

I had a couple of days of cold symptoms but nothing else really. I do get a bit light-headed if I stand up too quickly though. I eat a lot of cheese too so that affects my sleep/dreams!
I fell off the wagon around Xmas and am now making a concerted effort to get back on. I've recently had a couple of days of headaches and light-headedness when standing up too quickly, but no problem sleeping (although I never have).

Well I'm not sure if i am keto yet or how long. I have been avoiding carbs for around 2 weeks but at first was not avoiding enough of them. I'd say very strictly for the last 3 days or since sunday when i had a couple of spuds.

I know I won't be yet. I had a sticky ginger and toffee pudding at the weekend and a pizza at the tail end of last week.

Last night it was steak, garlic mushroom sauce and asparagus, and the night before, a marinaded beef with cauliflower rice, and eggs or chicken legs for lunch, so definitely back on it

So how long does it take?

Just finished watching the brilliant Mark Sissons podcast with Joe
https://youtu.be/Nwd6InD2nDk
he says that it takes around 21 days to become 80% adapted, also, he does go very low with his daily carbs

This sounds very much like your body is flirting with ketosis but still dependant on glucose. You’re still adapting or you’re still eating too many carbs. Most likely the latter.

ETA: Also keep in mind that you need to replace the carbohydrates with fat. Lots of lovely clean fat. Otherwise you’re going to die a starving and irritated man biggrin

It can depend on the person and also how strict you are.

If you restrict your intake to less than 20g of carb a day, and try and ensure that what carbs you DO get are mostly from leafy greens, then it can shorten the period.

As a rule of thumb, I would normally expect to feel the effects (keto flu some call it) after about 10-14 days.

Once you're past that, you could increase your carb intake to 50g, or maybe a little higher and still remain in ketosis.

Good grief. I usually go for bacon and egg, and if I can't source it I go without.

Yesterday was hard. I had to go to London at 16:30 and Virgin Trains 'afternoon' food isn't Keto-friendly at all so I went without. Came back on the 20:30 train and their evening food is just as bad. Ended up getting a Burger King Bacon Double Cheeseburger without the bread laugh Pretty nice actually!

My usual breakfast is a latte. I've never been a big breakfaster. The only time I feel I need to eat a proper breakfast is when I'm away skiing or have some other activity related event

Probably get shot by some, but after nearly two years eating an animal free diet I'm switching back to ketogenic/fasting.
Really enjoyed being a 'vegan', have been as fit and healthy as I've ever been.
Switching things up for two reasons; just fancy a change, and fasting is new for me. The keto thing is just happenstance.
After just a few days I'm rediscovering how expensive it is to eat quality animal products - compared to the rice/potatoes/beans/veg I've enjoyed recently.
Have you had your cholesterol checked recently milord? I've been watching Mic the vegan recently and it popped up that veggies are usually around 160 (vegans 150)

I'm at the office which is away from home. There is a gym near the office so i gym before work and shower etc. Then i grabbed whatever from the shop for breakfast which meant option were limited. Then lunch is Toby carvery.

This was the lowest carb but still some protein i could find in the shop. Next time I'll bring tinned salmon or whatever with me. What's coconut milk like instead of double cream - any reason i should feel guilty about glugging down double cream?

Not going to shoot you down but find the decision a bit strange given all the long term negative health benefits associated with animal products? But don’t want this to stray in to an anti-animal product debate.

I’m presently in ketosis on a plant-only based diet, around 1000 calories per day in order to reduce my visceral fat and improve my blood sugars. Is not easy and isn’t a long term diet but it is possible. It took me 4-5 days to show a reasonably high level on the ketostix.

Not guilty but double cream goes better with coffee or perhaps with a small handful of raspberries/blackberries.

I was wondering on this. What does a day look like in your diet? DO you lift/have an exercise regimen?

No. Double cream goes well in a morning coffee. Or on it's own if you are trying to rig your macros. Rather that than anything your grandmother couldn't identify.

Typically.....

Breakfast smoothie - vegan protein + avocado + spinach

Lunch - low carb veg soup or green salad + low carb crisp bread or bread (1g carb per slice)

Afternoon - vegan protein drink plus sometimes a seaweed snack

Evening - low carb veg stir fry + flavored tofu, or salad with veg sausages/burger, or tofu scramble + tomatoe etc. to make equivalent of a low carb fry up.

Once in Keto you can flex this a little with for example a homemade chickpea curry and zero carb rice, as I did last night.

Edited to add. In terms of exercise, this is constrained somewhat by weather and work. Weights in the gym, floor exercises, walk and cycling are my preferred exercise. All of which will increase now with lighter evenings and better weather.

In a hungry, need-something-sweet moment I’ve just raided the kitchen and made something really rather nice; salted caramel and pecan cheesecake!

Can’t remember the measurements as I went by eye but it was roughly;

75ml whipping cream
30g cream cheese
1 scoop of salted caramel GNC protein powder

Handful of pecans
20g butter

Blitz the pecans until roughly chopped in a blender. Melt the butter and combine the two. Put in the bottom of two ramekins and chill.

Whisk the cream, cheese and protein powder to make the topping. Put it on the base and chill. Grate some 90% dark chocolate on top. Makes two portions and the macros work out at 80%/15%/5% - bang on for Keto with 4g net carbs, 12g protein and about 30g fat.
