I stick to the mantra, if it comes in a packet or box and has a label - avoid.

I think that's wisest.

I've had 3 hrs sleep. I'm exhausted, hungry and there's a cake on the table...

Cake is still on the table. I did give in when I was offered a Gregg's Steak Bake tho.

I’ve been following a loose LCHF diet for a while. For me and my specific circumstances – it’s been amazing, life-changing in fact. But everyone’s different.

I say ‘loose’, because I make up a lot of the saved carbs with wine

sadface. I do like steakslices, but cannot resist cake, I smashed the crapola out of a birthday cake this week, but I don't feel too bad as I don't 'do keto and my ramping up of my running means I;m usually many 100s of cals well below DR

You'd have to be drinking an impressive amount of wine to make up the saved carbs.
AFAIK wine is relatively low on carbs but high in calories.

I’m pretty much doing the same.

I started this ear on jan 17th doing full keto and restricting calories to under 1000 per day.
I was strict with it for 9 weeks and lost 2 stone.
The last three week losses slowed massively down to only a lb a week and as it was so restrictive I’ve swapped over to Lchf but enjoy some red wine in the evening and a nice square of 85% chocolate which takes any other sweet cravings away.

I’ve introduced a few carbs when I start lagging and that seems to help reset me.

I haven’t touched white bread, pasta, potatoes or rice all year so far, but enjoy some lentils and legumes.

The great thing is I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all. It’s taken any sugar cravings away and I now prefer my coffee black.
I make sure I don’t drink artificially sweetened drinks too.

For someone who needed a bit of help with a few baby weight pounds this has been the best way for me to lose weight and keep it off. I have more energy and don’t get bloated any more.

I have stated to read up on Tim ferris 4 hour body / slow carb diet and that is a good middle ground for people who don’t want to do the full lchf.

Without wishing to appear as a thread stalker, I noticed in another topic that you were advising a diet high in bananas. If you yourself eat lots of bananas, then I’m certain that your definition of loose is a lot looser than mine smile

Bananas are basically energy bombs. You may as well be popping glucose tablets biggrin

There's nothing wrong with heavy calorie restriction PROVIDING you are hitting (or ideally exceeding) your protein macro. Otherwise you're probably losing muscle, which might look good on the scales, but it's obviously not helping long-term. Muscle mass is an important buffer for regulating blood-sugar. The more muscle mass you have, the more consistent your blood sugar will be. If you really want to do serious calorie deficits then great, it'll accelerate the weight loss. It can be tricky to sustain though, because by the time you count up the calories from the protein you MUST have, there might not be much calorie allowance left for the fats needed satiate your hunger.

Just looking at the pure numbers, 1000kcal/day for 9 weeks, doesn't really tell much about whether that was achieved in a healthy way or not.

Bananas are high in carbs but they are also high in many other vitamins and minerals, they are a superfood , also one of the best things for a hangover smile

That may well be the case, but they’re not suitable for a low carb diet.

Everything in moderation , depends on the person, half a banana in a shake wont kick me out of ketosis

Moderation, for me no, as I’m diabetic and they turn my blood to caramel. For you, yes, perhaps. But my point wasn’t about moderation, it was about eating lots of bananas smile

Doesn't the fibre in the bananana, slow it down enough?

In my experience not nearly enough. The fibre thing seems very hit and miss for me personally frown
