Consuming 160g+ of fat per day is bloody hard!
If all else fails I just eat coconut oil straight from the jar, with a spoon (or make it into bulletproof coffee)

I find it perpetually amusing that you guys are doing keto mostly to lose weight, whilst I’m doing it to make sure I don’t lose a limb or go blind later in life laugh

“They” do say that if you want to eat the perfect diet, follow that of a (successful) type 2 diabetic, so do with that what you wish biggrin
I'm doing it for a multitude of reasons, but in the here-and-now, weight is the easiest metric.

Unfortunately, we can't measure how many limbs we don't lose in the future, but we can measure, to some extent, bodyfat, insulin and body mass to give us an idea if it's being done right.

Another week with no loss here. No gain mind you. Nothing else has changed. Possibly drinking less water than i was, i'm going to make a conscious decision to drink more.

Has anyone purposefully gone out of keto to go back in and start the cycle again? This sort of happened to me by accident on atkins about 15 years ago. I lost 3 stone, went back to my normal diet, put a stone on then after a moth or two went back to atkins and lost another two. Net result -4 stone (17 to 13).Mind you, 13 was a bit too light for my height probably.
First week of no loss for me. I can tell I'm not in ketosis as I don't have that mouth taste. I also know I have been in the pub way too much and eating too much protein.

Fasted yesterday [not planned, just happened] so today's a reboot. Work night out thursday will be a test.

Even though I generally try not to snack, I just discovered my new favourite go-to flavour sensation. A stick of celery generously dunked in Dijon mustard. Seriously refreshing mid-morning if your mouth tastes like Gandhi’s flip-flop.

I’m also now going to make efforts to make my own mustard biggrin

It's borderline, but celery with a bit of hummus isn't bad. I think there's just under 10g of carb in my usual 'portion', but there's a decent amount to fibre in it too.

Must try the mustard option.

Full bag fresh spinach. Micro 2 mins. Add pesto to taste. Enjoy.

Sounds tasty but the idea 10g of carbohydrate in one sitting makes my pancreas itch. Fibre or no fibre biggrin

Only kidding. I’m sure it would be fine but I’ll stick to the mustard for now!

I’m normally not a huge fan myself. Tastes very earthy on its own, but the mustard adds a real nice kick smile

I have not been following Keto diet but find it interesting.
Started dieting 16 weeks ago following traditional method of eating less and moving more.
Managed to cut out 90%ish of snacks that I used to eat. (I used to snack a lot)
Still have 3 regular meals per day.
Hardly been going to the gym - less than once per week on average.

Gone from 92kg to 84Kg. So lost on average 1lb per week.

My target weight is 80kg - thinking whether Keto diet would be the best way to achieve this.
Anyone done similar.
cheers

You’ll find it difficult at first to get over a lifetime of being conditioned to believe that fat is bad. But once you’re over that it’s plain sailing in terms of food. Then you’ll have to deal with everyone you know telling you that you will be dead by the end of the week, usually as they shovel a gigantic plate of low fat glucose down their necks.

Otherwise you’re good to go biggrin

Can’t help you in the weight loss efficacy department, as I have gained weight, but I am much leaner than before.

Thats a top effort, especially done the old fashioned way.

My target weight is also 80kg. I started the keto diet 6 weeks ago at 95.7kg and have lost 6kg as of this morning.

I dont snack as i dont need to as i dont feel hungry or crave sugars. I dont feel like i am missing out or restricting myself in any way. My energy levels are better and i find my mind is clearer. Hard to explain this but previously i have been to the docs many times trying to find out why i lack energy and focus. This seems to have improved that enormously.

I havent been to the gym but cycling 2-3 times a week. I have also been eating out a fair bit and drinking (spirits) since the world cup started. I have been out of keto half the last week but have still managed to maintain weight not put it back on during that time.

damnit, just had an icecream forced upon me by my 7yr old who wanted to do something nice for daddy because it's so hot.

They aren't large, but that's my entire carb budget for the day up the swannee

shirt - thanks for the post and well done on the weight loss.
Interested in the bit about improved energy/focus as I would love to improve focus in particular.
If you are able to share your menus and methods - i would love to hear.
cheers

Yes, the mental acuity aspect seems to be a recurring theme amongst those into keto. Personally I have found the most noticeable difference being far less instances of irritability and grumpiness. I believe this is because I no longer experience “hunger”.

I of course still refer to the need to eat as hunger, but it’s not the same feeling you experience on a regular carb-rich diet. My relationship with food is closer to nature - when “hungry” I just feel the desire for tasty sustenance. There is never a need to shovel down plates of food and fill my stomach with stodge. More importantly, getting back to the mental stability, I do not get grumpy or irritable if I miss a meal. It’s hard not to look back and laugh at the notion of hunter gatherer early humans being incapacitated if they missed lunch laugh

Regarding myself gaining weight, I’m an edge case. I was a skinny rake before I began keto, and have gained weight only in muscle mass. I’m still a skinny rake but I’m leaner - more toned. Fear not, If you do it properly you will not get fatter on a ketogenic diet. You will switch from a fat storing machine to a fat burning machine! Good luck if you do decide to go ahead. It requires a committed change of lifestyle but it’s worth the effort smile

My elderly mum has always been quite healthy, low fat, whole foods, very little meat, swimming 3 times a week. To me I've always felt there's far too much pastry and stodge, even if it's healthy wholegrain, spelt or rye - it's still a lot. And that's not counting the fresh and dried fruit.

She started getting a bit breathless a while ago, but had a chest infection and the initial diagnosis was asthma. We've just discovered she has advanced heart failure, and severe atherosclerosis, though you couldn't tell from looking at her. She's too far gone for surgery (the anaesthetist actually cried when they delivered the news) so they're going to do what they can and then send her home. They can't give us a prognosis.

My dad, a retired GP, is beside himself, and already ranting about banning meat, cheese etc. from the house, as this is what's caused it.

I am going to try to convince her to try keto. I have a folder full of scientific literature showing how keto has been shown to assist in heart failure e.g. http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/136/Suppl_1/A1... (admittedly this is a mouse study, but it's not the only paper I've got). She stopped eating sweet foods about 2 months ago, she suddenly can't stand them at all, which gives me at least some hope I can convince them to try it.
