I had a relatively modest Friday night session last night. 3 pints of lager / IPA, a pint of Aspalls, 2 bottles of desperado and a can of Punk IPA when I got home.

For once I actually feel alright today. Good enough in fact to do some weights which isn't like me after a night out. However, today, well, I am sure it's going fairly messy (football). Getting 10 bottles of wine, 8 Punk IPA, 8 Elvis Juice, 4 Savanna delivered in half an hours time (though this is for the whole weekend and shared between me and OH). Wish me luck. hehe
fk me. All that between two people over two days?!

I enjoy a session, no doubt about it but some of the numbers you guys are throwing about...

yikes
JESUS that is frightening. The damage that you are storing up. It might not kill you but you'll be struggling everywhere and on a myriad of pills.

No offence but you are self destructing if you can drink that over a weekend and keep it down.

That's not a session that's a psychological illness.

My best mate lost his mum suddenly when she was 42. Within two weeks of liver damage being the cause she was dead.

The worse part was her perking up, feeling new again. Sitting up then sudden steep decline and dead two days later.

Alas I hardly made a dent! 2 bottles savanna (0.5l), 2 Elvis juice (330), 3 punk IPA (330) and a bottle of red wine and that was me done in!

At LMC, had 1 beer, 1 bottle of fizz, 0.5 bottle of white between two of us, feel rotten.

Don’t normally drink, nor does my wife, that’ll be it now for at least a week.

On a serious note, we are only young (29/24), but both increasingly worried about about my girlfriend’s Mum and step-Dad, she drinks 2 bottles every three days (average) and he drinks 3-5 pint cans of Stella every day, this can reach 8-10 on a Sat / Sun.

How are we best approaching the subject and I ask here because perhaps some of you have had similar conversations?

Her cousin passed away last year from heart or liver failure, she was 35 odd, drinking related, found dead and alone in her house.

Currently drinking a 40% ish Chardonnay -straight spirit in the wine, and over ice. Actually surprisingly palatable!
What's that?

Like he says... Chardonnay, ice, and neat (stronger than vodka) spirit.

Good luck with that one. Most people drink because they want to drink, are perfectly aware that it's not healthy but do it anyway, and I don't think the conversation will go the way you want it to go.

People only ever stop or cut down because they themselves want to for whatever reason, not because someone else wants them to.

I wouldn’t be approaching it at all.

Had a whole 1L bottle of gin last night without realising it. I say without realising it, but that's because I passed out in the end.

This has happened a bit too often for my liking, so I told the Mrs that I'm gonna quit drinking the booze for the rest of the year. Lets see how long I last.....

If you’re serious and not bullstting us, you’re lucky you didn’t die.

I’ve never drunk as much as a 70cl bottle of spirits in one day, never mind 100cl

I've managed 1L of vodka once in my life, not something i was in a hurry to repeat.

All the booze I said I bought a few posts back, I've still got quite a bit left. She has had a lot of wine, but I've probably had 2.5 bottles of red over the last 2 days, a fair few brewdog and savanna, but there's still a decent amount left, not going to complain - might be a cheap weekend next weekend smile

The weekend for me was,

Fri - 4 cans of Kronenbourg. c.760 calories
Sat - 3 pints during the day for the match. 2 cans of Kronenbourg & 3 Westons vintage ciders. c.1900 cals
Sun - 2 cans of Kronenbourg during the F1, 4 cans Heineken & 3 Desperados in the evening. c.1700 cals

Trying to track my calories at the moment, so happened to have the figures to hand.

To be honest, that's not too bad a weekend for me. Still too much I'm sure. My fiancee certainly tells me enough times! It is starting to be a source of some friction actually. I know I drink a bit too much, but she hardly drinks at all so it makes me look worse.

Also compared to how I used to drink, I don't feel too bad about how I drink at the moment.

I did feel very rough yesterday morning though, but I think being cooked in the hot weather + probably not drinking enough water contributed.

I would say your fiancée has cause for concern. Despite feeling very rough you then went on to drink ~9 pints, on a Sunday. That fact alone is alarming.

Indeed, good luck. You've made the first step, deciding you want to change.

Alarming to you, for many, me included, its been a way of life for years. Not saying that it is a good thing, obviously, but many enjoyable activities involve a degree of ‘risk’. The level at which he is drinking is what I would call steadying away, and it’s pretty easy to drink that much. Not sure where you got 9 pints from either? He said cans and most aren’t a full pint.

So call it 9 x 500ml, 4.5 litres - instead of 9 x 568ml, 5.1 litres. About 8 pints, then... except two of 'em were 6%.

Was thinking much the same. The difference between a can & a pint in this context is neither here nor there, imo.

Definitely too much, and with the football on it creates even more excuses to drink. I don’t tend to go out and get hammered but drink very regularly in small ish quantities mon-fri and typically more heavily on a weekend. I had a few days off recently just to prove to myself that I’m not dependent on it. Plan going forward is to (at a minimum) no booze at all Monday to Wednesday and stick to beer if I drink on other days. I got into spirits recently via dieting which was a bad idea!

Lots of assumptions being made, the cans I drink are usually 330 ml. Or sometimes 440 ml if Stella or something. The former is a long way short of being a pint. Desperado usually comes in 330ml bottles.
