Don’t miss it at all. I’m not saying I will never, ever drink it again i.e. i’ll have some at Xmas when at the parents, but never again routinely.

So you drank it purely for habit not that you liked the flavour a lot?

I did like the flavour, though probably less now that I'm enjoying craft beer IPA. I don't miss the hangovers, headaches and heartburn, which is enough to convince me I don't miss it period.

I probably also drank it because the OH did. However, she never seems to get the 3 H's.

Similar position. My missus talks me into having a 'glass' of wine which she sticks to but I'm all or nothing.

My alcohol intake has gone down considerably over the last year especially when its so hot as I find the hangovers even worse.

I have gotten to the point where i think i could totally quit and not miss it.

Interestingly i prefer the effects better than the taste most of the time as i find it helps me relax but then i go overboard!

I have a liver function blood test coming up as part of an application for an income protection insurance policy.... think I'll arrange it for a Wednesday!

Should be interesting.

Edit... it’s tomorrow at 6pm. Usually finished my first glass of Friday white wine by then. Guess it’ll have to wait!

41 years old - been drinking over the ‘28 units’ per week since age 24, but alcohol every day the last 4 years.....never more than 60 units a week though. Am I going to get a wake up call? Not sure I am tbh - possibly still too young. We’ll see.

To conclude, I've been offered the policy with no exclusion relating to alcohol - so I guess my LFT was normal.

Too much last night. French lodger gave me a couple of shots of his grandparents home made Eau de Vie as a digestif last night, seemed like a good idea at the time, feel rougher than badgers bumhole today. It seems to have had totally the opposite effect, more of an indigestif. Reminds me why I don't tend to drink spirits at all. I can happily enjoy a few wines/beers of an evening and feel right as rain the next day, but anything stronger than wine and a) I lose the inclination to be moderate and end up paying the price. Ugh.

I've been off the red wine a month or so now.

Skin looks better, hangovers now rare, heartburn a lot better*

Still feel a bit depressed but that's work more than anything else. I'm reading some self help books on that to try and pull myself round

Still drinking every night at the minute but down to 3 or 4 (330 ml) cans which I think is a vast improvement on 1.5 to 2 bottles of red wine every night (approx 5-7 units per night Vs 15-20)

Wow that’s a lot of red wine 🍷 in a week !

A company doctor once said to me it’s not the amount people drink over a week that he finds alarming it’s the amount some consume in one night but I think previously you’ve been doing both !

I drink less now . Used to be a bottle every evening but I’m once or twice a week these days Apart from Xmas .

I can see myself going nil by booze all next January

I've started on cider at home to help me cut down a bit.

Not as nice as the 7% stuff but still refreshing.

Yep I was certainly a heavy drinker. I do feel better for not drinking wine and not in those quantities though to be fair if I drank as many units in beer (I'd have to be doing 10+ cans a night to match that) then I'm sure I'd feel pretty crappy still.

Another thing I forgot to mention is I used to have regular sneezing fits that lasted a whole day or more, these have now gone. I wonder if I was allergic to the wine?

Next week I plan on having 2 dry days a week. If I can manage that consistently I'll be happy with that.

As a side note because I don't drink wine my drinking on a weekend has also reduced somewhat although I'm still doing about 10 cans a day/night at the weekend.

Certainly heading in the right direction smile

Me and the Mrs have just discovered Vodka and Cranberry (lots of Cranberry) so been replacing a large glass of wine here and there with a measured double of that. Every little helps.

Very similar symptoms with sneezing and being a bit more 'bunged up' than usual.
I'd previously put it down to hay fever but you may have identified something.

I gotta dilute the wine with some lemonade maybe and lots of ice !

I have been gradually cutting down my drinking over the last couple of years and a few months ago I managed to get down to 4 or 5 cans of lager on a Friday night.

Physically I feel much better for it and my weight has dropped as well.

Over the late May bank holiday weekend I had quite a bit to drink and ended up having hangover anxiety, which wasn't pleasant at all.

I used to call that "the fear". Truly dreadful feeling. I get anxiety anyway but often when I'm hungover its a lot worse.

Give it a try, I've suffered for years with what I thought was non allergic rhinitis. Except it may have been allergic after all.

That said I've been taking beconase nasal spray and that seems to have helped but not 100% but since giving up the wine I'm definitely even better to the point where I might try coming off the beconase once it runs out.

Now that’s pretty punchy !

Have you ever considered you may have a problem to be drinking around breakfast time or maybe you’ve just finished a night shift ?

Lol it’s not exactly breakfast time here smile well it kinda is. Not normal circumstances a bit cliff Richard summer holiday style.

I’m probably doing 16 pints before evening meal - not racing just carrying double pints each visit to the pool bar. Easy to do when on it from 8:30am

However werre a bottle of cava in now too
