Anyone on here had good experiences with heavy(ish) kettlebells?

I’m thinking of buying a 30-40kg one and using swings as an assistance exercise for deadlifts. I quite like swings if done violently and for moderate reps, but I don’t know anyone strong who does them.
Regularly use a 24 or 32kg one.

Turkish get ups, snatches, thrusters.

KBs add a lot to my training.

I love 'em, brilliant for back endurance, and h hip snap. Loads of routines in the wiki, I've done the 20,000 challenge and the 1,000 snatch challenge.
Turkish get-ups, swings and snatches will probably always be part of my routines. They will also give you solid grip.
Pavel's enter the kettlebell is a good start

I used to have challenges with a bloke on here, don't think he posts anymore.

20,000? redface

I remember when a few of us on here did the 10,000 challenge - must be about 4 years ago? I bought a 24kg kb for it; I was only just starting out on my gym adventure then. I think I only managed about 6,000 hehe

Today>

Squat: 1x140,160,170,180kg 15x110kg
Sissy Squat: 4 sets F
Ham curls: 1 set RPF, left leg to failure
Leg press: 170kg + bands, 3 sets 20

First full leg session in 8 weeks; heaviest squat since I snapped too- moved well. Good session, not pushing weights too much yet, but strength is there I think. Hip held up well, though definitely felt it. Progress. Left leg needs a fair bit of work to catch up with its counterpart.....

I'll be sore tomorrow.

Those squats looked solid DD!

This morning:

Overhead press 3x3 @ 62.5kg. A bit more to give I think.
Dips 4x12
Barbell curl 1x100
Seated dumbbell curl 3x12
Standing hammer curl 3x12
Cable curl 4x15

Then I did a few minutes of hip/leg mobility courtesy of Ido portal. Either he's double-jointed or I spend far too much time sitting in an office chair...

Good work on the OHP! Anything over 60kg for reps is a good lift in my book.

Today:

Squats - 8x12-1 rep (up to 165kg)
Bench Press - 7x12-1 rep (up to 145kg) and 1x drop set with 135kg
Clean and Press - 6x12-1 rep (only up to 85kg today)
BB BOR (standard) - 4x12-8 reps (up to 100kg)
Wide Grip Pull Up - 4x16-8 reps
Rack Pull - 4x5 (up to 185kg), and a single with 195, went for 205, but something didn't feel quite right in back, so didn't do it, or at least, commit fully.
Seated Pulley Row (Reverse grip) - 4x12-10 reps.

I don't know whether it's a recovery issue or there is something slightly off with my lower back, but it seems I am good for upper body stuff, but Squats and Deadlifts are taking a lot longer to improve, stagnating, even (hardly any change in 12 months). Not sure what to do to rectify it...

Try something a bit different with them- something like 7-10 sets of doubles at 55-60%, really pushing for explosive bar speed, keep the weight the same each week, but lower rest times if you're able, and try to get more explosion.

Easier to recover from, and works on something that may be holding you back- after 5-8 weeks revert back to normal, and it should feel great.

Thanks, didely, I'll try that. I know I can do more weight, but something in the chain is holding me back!

I have my first lifting competition coming up (next Sunday). It’s based on body weight (weight lifted / body weight x 100).

Felt quite tired tonight, but thought I’d go and ‘test’ my planned openers!

Went 5/5

Snatch - 65
Clean and jerk - 90
Squat - 145
Bench- 77.5
Deadlift - 175

Here’s a link to my insta post with videos of all the lifts.

Great stuff on those lifts, Jamie. Not sure I have ever seen anyone who squats twice what they bench press! Probably a healthier balance than the typical gym bro!

Ha thanks! My bench is a bit behind, but it’s slowly improving. I never train bench, all my gains come from Olympic lifting or Crossfit.

Hoping for 85kg on my third lift..

Fun workout last night.

Power clean triples @ 50kg (relearning these so will keep the weight very low for a while)
Football bar bench press: 9 x 80kg
Close grip FB bench press: 10 x 60kg
Incline dumbell press: 15 x 20kg

Press ups and abs stuff.

Thought it might be fun to do a bodybuilding style thing. It was great.
