What training are you doing/have you done today? (Vol.3)
Discussion
Today I started my routine with a splitting headache, which got worse the more I exerted myself, as if my head was going to explode. Then, half way through, it disappeared! First half of my routine was sub par, though..
Leg Press - 5x12-5 reps
Superset - Bench Press - 4x12-4 reps / Wide Grip Pull Ups - 4x12-8 reps
Power Clean - 8x2-1 rep
High Pull - 4x10-5 reps
BB BOR (Reverse Grip) - 4x12-8 reps
Seated Pulley Row (Neutral Grip) - 4x12-10 reps
Glad I persevered, always feel a lot better afterwards.

Could be as simple as the confidence afforded by the extra friction.
Lifting is as much psychological as it is physical. To state the obvious...
Could be, I've failed what should be easy lifts due to mind games! Lifting is as much psychological as it is physical. To state the obvious...
Really interested in trying hypnotherapy to see if I can change my mindset. If something feels or looks heavy I can talk myself out of it quickly...

I've always had a weak back. When I was a teenager, I was crap at carrying a heavy rucksack etc. Always been easy to twang my back, though have never done anything which has put me flat on a board.
But there's a real block to lifting anything decent. Sit my arse down though, with legs up above/in front of me, and I can leg press 500kg!

Yep - my head kills my deadlifts.

I think Deadlifts are the only lift that I allow my cautious side to prevail, as the consequences of pushing yourself too far on these can be life changing.I've always had a weak back. Anything else, I don't care, I throw caution to the wind and go for it (as the worse scenario is that I fail the rep), but not with Deads

I just wish my head would let me push on a little more though. I just want to lift 2x bodyweight. Then I'll stop.

I know, mate - just yanking your chain.
I know Sometimes you've just got to push yourself- believe you can do it, then just do it.
case in point- Look at some of the PB's I got last year- all were right at the limit, but I still got them, because I assumed I could:

(I actually thought last year was a bad training year, but I got a load of PB's!)

A lot depends on injury history. My fked up neck means I cannot really use 100% force in pretty much anything. As soon as I feel real strain, I have to back off 5% or the discs will grind and leave me in agony for a few days. I’ve found a way to lift fairly heavy without letting rip, but it’s quite mentally hard. I miss being able to just go balls to the wall.

Listen to Sir Snapped Butt!
Sorry DD that was childishly funny!
I'm even more cautious now since the tear and probably will be indefinitely even though it was a freak accident and I know the cause.
However preventative measures are in place which may actually help me progress quicker.
I’ve had a load of non lifting injuries that should have, in theory, stopped me lifting- but they didn’t, and I still go all out when I can. Broken pelvis, and spine are the two biggies, but there are a load of smaller ones.....
I just refuse to be beaten- pig headedness mixed with stupidity perhaps. But, it’s all fun
