You can get 5kg packs of nails from b&q For £12, relatively cheap and easy way of adding weight biggrin

biggrin

I’ve done a fair bit of research for mass to price to weight ratios. And wire nails top the charts.

Plus you can put them in a bag/pillow case for draping and moulding to what’s required laugh

Nice, thanks! Quite new to all this having mostly done cardio my whole life but really enjoying it.

At present I do a daily 20 min blast which is

5 circuits of:

5 pull ups
10 dips
10 barbell squats

Then 3 circuits of

8 pull ups
8 v ups

Then 5 lots of 10 reps of barbell chest press

All the barbell exercises done with a total of 20kg and it’s getting a bit easy now (I’m only 11.5 st and largely built like a little girl so go easy on me!) laugh

My goal is losing body fat, I’m skinny but chubby in the abdomen and chest, so doing that daily in conjunction with daily cardio and a calorie deficit to get my body fat down to where I’m happy whilst gaining strength ....getting there, noticing a big difference after a month solid at this daily.
At that level of weight, aren't press ups harder than bench press? I would just do press ups. Use a resistance band if necessary to add some "weight".

Press ups are, in my view, a better exercise than bench press, aside from loading issues. You don't have loading issues with press ups yet.

He's doing dips, I'd rate dips over pressups.

So, do more dips biggrin

If he can tolerate them, yeah. I always write off dips because all they do for me is saw a hole in my shoulder!

Have you tried them on rings? They are twice as hard but I find them a lot less stressful on the joints.

Anyone got any tips for pull ups? I've just started doing weighted ring pull ups again and am struggling to feel them in my upper back and lats. I've tried pulling with my elbows, initiating the pull with my shoulders and still feel as though my arms are doing all the work. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using straps so you're not focusing on gripping?

Huge PB for me tonight.
3x8 @110kg strict press.
First set was a 10kg PB and I did it 3 times biggrin
Had to take long rest periods though, the first 2 sets were real grinders and amped up for the last set which was much quicker than previous 2.

My suggestion would to do them on a bar and get good at them on a bar, before switching to rings.

Awesome numbers man!

Extrapolating, your push must be looking good right now.

Thank you for the reply. I've been doing pull ups for years and am already ok at them. I switched to rings because of elbow pain. The problem I'm having is now I've added weight whilst using rings i'm struggling to feel them in my upper back and lats. It just feels as though biceps are getting all the action.

Silly question but are you doing pull-ups or chins? I'd really have to see what you're doing to make any real comment.

Maybe stick up a video of you doing a few reps?

Edit: how are you gripping the rings? False grip? Thumb over? Thumb under?

I'm hoping to hit 180kg soon!
The problem I have is grinding, its usually just hit or miss, zero grinding ability unfortunately.

Honestly, I think that's probably for the best!

I can grind but I need to be properly zoned out for it to happen.

That's a huge jump!

To think I was happy with 70kg for 4 yesterday...

Don't all ring pull ups follow the same pattern - start pronated or neutral and rotate through to supinated as you pull? I think ring pull ups are great. I have some rings hanging in the garden for them.

I don't think there's a set of prescribed rotations - everyone does it differently.

Plus, I was asking about whether or not he's using false grip, and what he's doing with his thumbs, which is a different question smile
