What training are you doing/have you done today? (Vol.3)
Discussion
Not posted much recently as training is a bit of a stale mate with this back issue.
Scan came back clear so they're now stumped on the cause.
No damage being done, just pain management during training.
With that being said, entered a competition yesterday when I dropped the shirts off for it for today and ended up winning every event
Naproxen and adrenaline carried me through, bit of pain now but otherwise did much better than I expected.

Been enjoying 5x5 for a few months, starting from scratch.
Rested the squat and deadlift as my knee felt a bit sore. Also enjoyed my first full exercise failure - Seated OHP 5x5 turned out to be 3,4,3,4,3 on 47.5kg. I have to be honest, since I started on an empty bar in Feb, I can't see me putting that weight up any time soon. It's bloody heavy.
Plus pullups 3 x failure, dips 3 x 10 and calf raises

Looking good. Maybe lower weight and increase reps for a few weeks to build some shoulder mass then come back at it?Rested the squat and deadlift as my knee felt a bit sore. There's a huge disparity between my current lifts as I've started so recently, so I'm expecting to be tinkering with one while others progress. Best seated OHP (I lack the height to stand in my shed) is 45kg for 5x5. Bench is 57.5kg for 5x5, Squat is 70kg for 5x5! A long way to go. Hopefully by the time I need to buy more plates, the price will have come down again...

Cheers - I was thinking over the sets and concluded the same - I found some reps easier than others, which tells me there's technique issues in there too - bar path I think. Dropping the weight and having the capacity to be thinking about form during the lift would be helpful I think. Fortunately I'm old and it's a home gym, so there's little ego involved!

Your OHP is quite strong compared to your bench, so I wouldn't worry that it has stalled. It stalls first for pretty much everyone because it is the lift that uses the least weight (so each increment is higher as a percentage). Once it stops raining, you could do your presses outside. That's what I do as a way of dealing with a low garage roof. It does mean I dont do any serious pressing for about 8 months of the year!
I'm having a week off to rest some minor injuries and celebrate that I'm now officially overweight based on BMI alone (I do find this quite funny).
Despite supposedly resting, I did have a go at my bench press yesterday though to see if I could get the max bench up. Nope.
105kg, no problem, 8-9RPE. But then five attempts at 110kg, and five times stalled about three inches from my chest. It really feels like there's much more in the tank but I just cannot get past that point.

Squat 5x5 72.5kg
Bench 5x5 60kg
Row 5x5 60kg
Deadlift 2x5 60kg wu, 1x5 100kg. Grip and back weak, legs strong
First time I've ever lifted triple digit weight. Am over 40, but never been as focused on gym work as the last few years. It's taken a home gym setup and a running injury to refocus entirely on weights. Cracking way to spend our covid holiday refund!
Chuffed as. And tired.

Good luck mate. I don't comment on your posts as I've not a lot to add, but I admire your dedication to be where you are with some of those big weights.
You've shown me I've a long way to go!
Cheers buddy, much appreciated You've shown me I've a long way to go!
Ill be competing in the U93kg category, currently sitting at about 86/87kg so no cutting involved.
It will mean i will potentially be against some proper big lifters i.e. my coach haha
